Griffiths was so perfectly cast for the series. She played every nuance of Brenda with utter believability. Heady, willful, super intelligent, vulnerable, sexual, determined, conflicted, constantly evolving .... For an Australian actress she sported not only a seamless American accent, but a standard, west coast California accent as well. To a T. I hope her fellow Aussies know how highly esteemed she was among Americans for her work in this series.

Brenda was my favourite character from the beginning. Then it's David then Ruth, then Claire towards the end of the series.

I liked Nate but he turned into such a jerk.

But I love all the characters, and I missed the Chenowiths as much as the Fishers.

Brenda, to me, is one of the most memorable characters ever on television. I loved her from the moment we met her in the pilot, and shared her triumphs and pain through the entire five seasons. A truly REAL human being. And, of course, all of this was possible b/c of the genius that is Rachel Griffiths.

I didn't hate Brenda, but I didn't understand her. I understand that her parents were fucked up and made her resent her family and herself, but why did she pretend to love Nate and Joe? She clearly did not love them, she was always feeling smothered by them, yet she lied right to their faces and said she wanted to be with them.

I guess it shows how different things appeal to different people, but my god Brenda was the worst thing about Six Feet Under. I loved the show with a passion, but whenever she was onscreen I'd want to mute it (I didn't for plot reasons only). She was annoying, stupid and I didn't think much of the actress playing her either. She ruined what was otherwise my favourite show at the time it was on. Yet she has fans. Strange, very very strange.

Without every aspect of her character being the way she was, bitchy or not, the show would not be what it was and still is.
