  • like if youre in dr. vias class

  • it really is a shame how america gets turned into a third world country by big corporations... our greed will kill us soon

  • We need to stop coal burning and replace those power plants with nuclear plants as soon as possible. Or...we could stop using electricity. Shut off your computer NOW !

  • Anyone who wonders what Occupy Wallstreet is about...This IS it. It's not that they don't know what they're protesting, it's because their causes are SO many.

But it's all summed up in this, A Government that's bought and sold out to big industry who doesn't give a shit about anyone, or anything but profits.

    Assholes.

  • Pretty impossible to press the like button...what is going on...how can the mining companies get away with filling head streams, wrecking your whole mountain range and carting it away overseas...be getting really ANGRY people...this is environmental vandalism on a huge scale...:>{

  • im an underground miner.. but i fuckin hate mountain removal and open cuts!!!!!!!!

  • Support COAL or Burn Candles!!

  • Support COAL or Burn Candles!!

  • Well done video and beautifully done book. Progress does require change but most certainly not all change is progress. Everyone should have the basic rights of clean air, water, and land. A true travesty.

  • I guess money will soon be the only green left on Earth, and it isn't even real!

  • I don't see any Americans volunteering to cut their electricity usage by 70%.

  • funny all these eco nuts complaining about coal mining yet never to find out where electricity that powers their electric cars comes from. guess as long as you feel good plugging your car in and not seeing the origin makes it all good.

  • @wholaughslast8228 not all power comes from coal...in TN, NC, VA & WVA a lot of our power comes from

hydro-electric dams...ppl are "eco nuts" because they want to save the mountains? hmmm ok

  • @sp0ttedp0ny330

yeah only about 7% of electricity is made from hydo-electric dams, which by the way the EPA makes it nearly impossible to build through permit and building restriction. can't have your cake and eat it too.

  • THEN HAVE YOUR ELECTICITY TURNED OFF ASAP!!!!

  • this is so stupid mining is the best thing that has ever happen t us

  • @dozer3man I don't live in the Appalachian mountains. However there was coal mining in the area that I do live. Was being the operative word. What happened to the mining is that the coal ran the fuck out. It will also run out in the Appalachian mountains.

  • @dozer3man while i realize that there are pretty much NO jobs in the Appys that pay well....and i'm sorry for that..i live here & i see a lot of good, honest, hard-working ppl having just the worst time of it...BUT if the mountaintop removal mining continues & this country doesn't find some alternative to coal--ALL the miners will be out of a job as well!! i'm not against miners, my Gramps was a miner !! i just hate the way its being done here in the Appys-pretty soon we will have NO mtns!

  • @Wv24985--I live in the Appy mtns of TN--you may have clean air where you mine because the bad air flows DOWN the mtns & into the valley(its basic science!)

Your form of mining does no harm? The claims are exxagerated?? Oh so I suppose the GIANT sludge flood here in TN was just a figment or our imaginations???!!!! GET REAL!

  • We All need to get together on this. It's high time to stop this kind of mining/destruction! I live in Tennessee, and have seen it first hand. We need to switch to natural gas, which we have plenty of, and would generate jobs for so many miners. It would bring more money to mountain communities, and save the environment at the same time. I don't want to see my Tennessee mountains ruined forever just for a few years of energy supply. I suggest we consider our children's future first!

  • It has been said, "If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem." "Mountainlife", I think we've found your problem.

    "WV24985"...you're it.

I'm proud to be a part of this video and book. Thank you PlunderingAppalachia.

  • I bet you don't even live in Appalachia do you

    "tpaigeme?"

  • @coalvein We are all 'from here'. My family was among the first settlers of Fayette County, W.Va.

  • I live in a Community called Closplint and we are suffering from minning, our home's are being covered with mine silth and rock dust.We can't go outside for fresh air,our home's are growing mold and mildew, which cause's lung problem's,not to mention that all the different dust cause's several kind's of cancer, and we can't enjoy our home's.I am ready to leave and give it back to bank.

  • I'd buy that house off of you, if I could get a job at that mine. I know everything you just said was exagerated..."can't get fresh air because of the rock dust?" Well, I work actually on a surface mine...i mean right in the middle of it all...and I get all the fresh air I want. By the way, people get cancer every day who have never heard of a coal mine. We cant blame mines for everything, you know.

  • Then please leave and quit creating problems for us coal miners. This is coal country and if you don't like then leave-no one is making you stay. I'll even help you move...

  • Thank you for sharing this explanation of this tragedy. I will be using this vid to help spread the word.
