  • Good presentation! Yer lucky to have gotten your hands on these lil' IEE babies...the intervening years haven't made finding them any easier! With all the recent interest in Nixie tech, a dekatron counter array with a one-plane readout would make a nice take on the retro-50's clock. I read somewhere that OPDs are still being produced (though not by IEE), and are currently still used in aviation, but I've found no further info to bear that out.

  • I pulled one out of a dead 1960 pinball/ converted slot machine. I'm wondering how much power I'd need just to test this thing. Very cool. No one knew what the thing was.

  • @coinballpgh Since you're just lighting incandescent bulbs, should be around 5v. ..But you've probably figured that out by now. :)

  • Jason, AWESOME idea. I look forward to hearing more about the wacky, nerdy and ultra cool things that you know about. Very fun, my friend!

  • I did find this interesting!

  • the tree or broccoli I would say is a Clover.

  • cool vid but i had to turn up all 3 of my volumes to hear it otherwise very nice

  • Very, very interesting! :)

How about doing a thing on nixie tubes too? Display tech of bygone days intrigue me!

  • Cool! I think the tree is supposed to be a clover.

  • Wow, i've never heard of 1 plane displays. You got to post a vid of one as a speedometer for your bug!

  • Very interesting video, it's nice to hear about some of the lesser known display technologies.

  • I really enjoyed this! even tough it was really techy geeky stuff.
