Though jews and many other prisoners suffered, many don't realize the strain it was on some Nazi soldiers. A lot of them didn't want to do what they had to (Or they'd be killed...) in which they did have easier life style, but I'm sure the guilt of burden was great. There are some very sad movies about this.

Honestly,this possibly couldn't be the actual Holocaust.Jews didn't have the luxury of having paper,so I think the song's setting is a time that is much based off the tragedy.Supporting that,no "Germans"(Rin) would've been that close to a concentration camp without reporting.I know well about her father,but still - not possible.It's a sad yet beautiful song, and to see everyone saying that Len is Jewish and/or Rin is a Nazi is plain sad.All in all,this series is more beautiful than stereotypes.

QUESTION! Why the hell is Len in a concentration camp? In reality, all the young blonde boys with blue or green eyes, regardless of whether or not they were German, were taken to either attempt to build Aryan families or were used as Nazi soldiers... I do believe Len is in a Concentration Camp. You can see at one point in the video Len standing on railroad tracks, the Nazis brought the captured prisoners in with trains. You can also see a wall with an entrance hole for the trains, that was a feature in a lot of Concentration Camps. Also Len was placed inside a gas chamber along with you might see as dead bodies. Rin was probably leaving with her family to escape the Holocaust.

I have a theory behind Prisoner so it doesnt seem so sad and depressing:

Len was kidnapped by a bunch of Fangirls and they kept him in a little place where they could observe him doing his daily needs. Sleeping, eating, changing, SLEEPING.

When they brought Len to the place, his memory was wiped out so he wouldnt remeber anything.

@palmakids2 Yes, Rin's dad was a Nazi in this series. But just because she's German, does not automatically mean her's a Nazi! Most Nazis were German, but not all Germans were Nazis. There were plenty of innocent civilians, as well as normal German soldiers - heck, the German public didn't even know about the concentration camps - they just thought the Jews were being rounded up for work camps, to make weapons for the war, not to /kill/ them. Plus, life was dangerous for Germans as well. -cont.-

I'm sorry for the rant, I really am, but it's a touchy subject for me - I have relatives who were alive in Germany at the time, and they did all they could to help Jewish neighbors, but there wasn't much more they could do. They send paper airplanes to each other, what looks like for several months or years, then she has to move away. Later, guards find Rins' letters and destroy them. Then Len is gassed, and his last thoughts are that Rin never wrote him her name, and he wants to thank her for sending him paper airplanes. Get it now?

She gets so sick, she is no longer able to move. Both love each other and die awaiting to see the other smile. SWEETEST THING EVER!
