  • Gorgeous ! Two virtuosi playing together !

28 people were in the wrong place.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • WOW! so faaaaaaaaasssssssssssstttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perlman would also probably like to stand if it was possible for him.

  • 5:50 Perlman goes SOOO high!!

  • I can not even emagine that someone could not open their mind, use their ears, and think how beautiful this peice of music is. It is made even finer by the two gentlemen who play it. It saddens me that twenty eight people possess the malice, nay hate, to press a button labled "dislike."

  • wow....just wow....

  • что за люди могли нажать - "мне не нравиться"?

    не понимаю(

  • Itzhak is a legend and when he plays the violin is pure love

  • Sublime..

..I desire, this great dream of love lasts, for the time of my life.

  • There may be some older master, eg Heifetz, are better than the above two. Given recording technology is better nowadays, most people would consider the product of the two great violinists as the greatest.

  • @HKTerry2005 maybe so,

  • Dear Music Lovers , Please Don't argue , I am sure no one in music village is a fanatic . It's what is in common that brings us to this clip ! Maestro Perlman has a great Tone , It is also true that not All Legends are Masters at all Expressions . Perhaps someone else's view would help us evolve as Musicians and Listeners . I personally have listened to some unlucky no name Musicians who played this piece by far better ..Pls also listen to Heifetz and Piatigorsky , just different !!

  • 28 Dislikes What ?

  • It took me 1 years to play this piece I lov it I should've taken lessons

  • 3:50 ohhhhh youuuuu guuuyyyys

  • @Kantatzu

That's probably my favourite part of the piece :D

Especially those last few notes on the viola.

Now I say probably, because I tend to change my mind on this thing a lot. I can't decide which part I like more :P

  • 0:21 there, that's the link for those of you like me who can't stand waiting 23 seconds to hear this amazing comprehension of this piece!

  • a divine pairing for such a devilish duet....love them both!

  • I saw Itzhak Perlman play in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra 10 years ago. I was lucky enough to have seats about 5 rows back from the stage. I had a perfect view of his left hand. I play the viola and so I thoroughly enjoyed watching from that angle. It's majestic watching someone's fingers fly like that.

  • I can't stop listening to this... I am constantly on the verge of tears while listening to it....

  • Sweet :) ------------------>

  • ¡Hermoso y sorprendente!

  • this is true music...

  • pas terrible ; c'est bien mieux au clavecin ( par Scott Ross ! ).

  • ...that violist is none other than Pinchas Zukerman...heard of him?

  • @Radamathill

If you want people to read your replies, you're going to have to use the "reply" button there.

Also, his name is in the title, so I'm hoping he knows.

  • @Surtak

Thanks. I'm kind of new here, but I think I got it now.

  • ...that violist is Pinchas Zukerman. Heard of him?

  • holy crap... that violist is amazing... I wish I had seen him perform before today!

  • what a pair of geniuses.

  • 2:36 He better be having a good time!

  • Zukerman's depth is INCREDIBLE

  • @NotCGR

I don't think I've ever heard such wonderful viola play.

  • I love Zukerman too!

  • ...yep, still wonderfull and invigorating music! This after at least a hundred views.

  • Comment removed

  • Que sonido el de la viola.... maestro!!!!

  • Juste à quoi sert l'orchestre derrière? XD

  • Händel or Haendel but not Handel. When are the people learning that

    ä = ae

    ö = oe

    ü = ue

Is it so hard to get? Probably it is..

    btw, great performance!!!!

  • @MrUrberliner

GFH adopted the spelling "Handel" when he became a naturalised British citizen.

  • I love Perlman, don't get me wrong: he is absolutely a prodigy. However, I prefer Zukerman's style.

  • I LOVE THIS

  • People...THIS IS MUSIC!!!

  • Perlman looks like Newman from seinfeld

  • What the... Are you serious? 1685 - 1759 is not baroque? :D

Who are the baroque composers then, in your opinion? Lassus, Perotinus and Dufay? Dude, get your facts straight. ^^

Anyway, I already conceded my overlooking that these are Halvorsen's variations, not Handel's, so my original point was a dead horse to begin with.

But dude, get your facts straight.

  • Algun dia podre tocar esta maravilla... y es cuando podre morirme a gusto...

  • 30 years on, they are still playing strong. Better still. In their finest form. God bless them.

  • By any chance would anyone know what viola he has???? CUZ ITS THE MOST AMAZING SOUNDING VIOLA I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!

  • You 19 who disliked this.. You disgust me.. utterly.!

  • @aaaaKEALEaaaa Give them a break. I wasn't one of them, but there are some very valid reasons to dislike their performance.

For one, this rendition is a throwback to the 1950's, where people didn't give a shit about historical interpretation. They play as if Handel was one of Paganini's buddies. It sounds very un-baroque.

Zukerman does a good job, but Perlman's presence nullifies his efforts.

  • @Timrath Tis true.. The performance in 1941 by Jascha Heifetz and William Primrose is much more fluid that this performance but my preference is toward this one.

  • @Timrath

Well, they are playing Händel/Halvorsen not Händel. Most of the varations are Halvorsen's own based on the theme by Handel and therefore aren't really baroque. Playing the piece 'romantically', they might just be acknowledging exactly that.

  • @Timrath uuh, Handel lived in the classical Era, and Halvorsen lived in the romantic era, both of which are not in the baroque er.

  • Amazing.

  • this is the best thing ive ever heard in my whole life.

  • @hotbebimauz I understand what you mean. I feel the same way, though I've heard a lot of Händel, played by many great musicians.

  • One of the best duets ever written.

  • I find myself in a unique position (at least in my life).

I literally can't get through the day now without having listened to this at least once. That's never happened to me before, I usually get bored of any one piece of music if I lsiten to it repeatedly.

  • Muito bom, adoreia. Lindo... :)

  • 19 people can't pronounce "Passacaglia."

That, or, they suffer from brain damage because they don'[t like Itzhak's face at 2:36.

  • gotta love perlman expression @ 2:35, pure joy

  • @Philboy50 It just says "I'm the best violinist in the world, and I dun give a fuck!" :P

  • 2:24 "I Will Survive" -- Gloria Gaynor

  • @JOSHGEORGE100

updating your comment. 18 people cannot HANDEL(handle) a pure, beautiful and outstanding piece of music

  • @MatheusDRodrigues

Now THAT is a bad pun :P

  • Thes guys just work perfectly together.

  • that was just gorgeous

  • @flextra96 do you not understand that Perlman is 1. freaking AMAZING and 2. he can't stand because he had polio as a child and it left him part crippled!! Don't criticize people until you know their situation!!

PS I love perlman!! he is one of my favorite violinists of all time!!!!!!!!

  • @flextra96 your either uneducated or your unfunny

  • @flextra96 Are you trolling?

  • So even though Perlman is one of the most esteemed violinists in the world today, lauded by the world of music as one of the all-time greatest virtuosos, you and your friend, "some fairly experienced players", you guys just happen to have the incredible perception that the rest of the world doesn't to realize that Perlman sucks. I mean, seriously, did you hear how he like didn't play that note in that scale?! What a loser! ... Pssh, go back to your speed metal kid, leave good music alone...

  • @Deathzwei you're right, if you play music exactly the way it is written it loses it's musicality and is bland, but I still don't agree with changing something to the agree that he does, especially when it's making it especially easier. Just sayin'.

  • Perlman's a cheater. He sucks D.

  • @MrSquirrel13

Mind explaining what you mean by cheater?

  • @MrSquirrel13

Mind explaining what you mean by cheater?

  • @Surtak example: the scales at 5:50 he doesn't play the whole thing, he just hits like 5 notes, then the high one. My friend and I (who's a fairly experienced violin player) have noticed the same things in other pieces he plays too. Definitely not even comparable to other great violinists throughout the ages. Granted he's still WAAAYYYY better than I'll ever be, but I'm not going into music and don't practice for hours a day. He's still good, but there's still other great violinists out there.

  • @MrSquirrel13

I see what you mean. I'm usually what you call a purist, play it how it was written by the master. So I can agree with that sentiment.

However, I have to say it doesn't diminish my opinion of Perlman in the slightest. He isn't skipping anything because he can't play it.

  • @MrSquirrel13 A great violinist doesn't have to play a music piece as exactly as it was written. If you judge a performance solely based on how "correctly" it was played, rather than how well it was played, then I don't think you should criticize Perlman's playing.

  • @MrSquirrel13 Yeah, the fact that he only seems to hit a few notes in that run says a lot about how proficient of a player he really is. Same with Heifetz in his performance of this piece- hell, Heifetz doesn't even try to play the run and we all know how crappy of a player he is, right? OH WAIT.

  • Voilà c le mot magnifique

  • I prefer the harpsichord version.

  • @paugarriga

    There's a hapsicord version?

I demand you produce a link!

  • @Surtak The original harpsichord version is Mvt 6 of Suite No. 7 in G minor. Just do a search for HWV 432 and its the first thing on the list.

  • Brilliant.

  • 14 cannot play a good sounding note on violin. ^

  • Wow, the chord at 6:33 is very powerful...

  • Sorry it is not a Klezmer! Sad...

  • i love it me and a friend are acutally working on this piece and were soundn pretty good so far

  • @187795km Record and post, please (:

  • O_O

  • Every second I can see two man playing and enjoying music like nothing other.

  • I think it sounds better with a cello instead of a viola :P

  • @612curtis Zukerman is awsome and has the right viola. I love it with viola :D

  • @root1995 I think it's because I've heard it only with cello until this rendition :L It's still an amazing piece :D

  • he's a virtuaso

  • handel worte this piece for a harpsichord and not for violins, and u can clears in this perfeormance that this doens'T suit for violin solo.

  • @BaDitO2 You on crack?

  • @BaDitO2

you hearing something doesn't make it an absolute tuth ;)

  • @BaDitO2 wel first of all its not violins its one violin and one viola and second it isn't a violin solo its a duet and thirdly it is called arrangments and this piece sounds amazing

  • 2:36 = Hurrrrr, I can plays violins =D

  • I wish I had their hands

  • Perlman isn't too accurate in higher registers, but then again he has large hands and I do recall him saying it was much harder for him than most other violinists.

  • perfect

  • fantastic

  • magnitude and magnificence...Perleman-phenomenon of 20 century

  • Sorry for being stupid but I wanna know why this piece ended on a major chord?

  • @RatedPi It's called the Piccardo minor. It's an entire minor music that ends in the major tonic chord.

  • 我想:他們的合奏是完美結合.每當我聽起這旋律.我的心.跟著舞動了起來...多麼深深感動.......

  • 14 people cannot handle a pure, beautiful and outstanding piece of music

  • Big guys playing small instruments.

This is real music, guys. (:

  • 2:53 - 4:05 tears in my eyes...

  • @mrSk8Chiller wtf does this even mean? only 6 million people live in the world?

  • Perlman has the cutest face at 2:35

  • Just incredible. I'm a countryman of Halvorsen ( a Norwegian), and my grand-grandfather was born near Halle, just like Handel. And therefore I feel like like this is almost my inheritance. I've loved Handel since I was a teenager. I don't know why. Instinct, maybe? My grand-grandfathers name was Eberling. The Eberlings was masters of Tyrol and Salzburg. Any Eberlings out there?

  • 13 people pressed the wrong button.

Dear Utube, please erase the 'dislike' button from this video and replace it with an 'I want to die' button!

  • viola 4 eva

  • wat type of viola is that

  • I don't think I've seen so many different bowing techniques in one video as I've seen in this one. o.0

  • i think that we have a concept problem, Pinchas Zukerman is an excellent violinist, why he play the viola?? and please dont answer me that is a violist like it is Maxim Vengerov(who plays viola and he is a violinist).

These musicians play the viola like a violin.

Violist are William Primrose & Yuri Bashmetfor example.

    Thanks.

  • @177abc well you are completely right, when play the viola I use the viola technique which is some kind of cello deliciousness is softer and completely different

  • perlman, best violinist period

  • Just Love classic music! ;D

  • Sounds better cello/violin.

  • There are 13 morons in the world for sure!

  • A very stunning performance though I like the sound of a violin and a cello working together more over a viola. I'm biased because i play cello myself but still.

  • 1100th like!!!! lol. this song is epic

  • 5,893,288 ??? you forget about 5,300,000,000

  • I like how there are more than 82x as many likes as there are dislikes, but there still should just be 1,080 likes and 0 dislikes.

  • That little smile tells everything about this performance... Full emotion.

  • thanks for sharing

  • Jaw on floor, in awe. For the ?th time.

  • 13 people are deaf

  • Comment removed

  • @mrSk8Chiller I agree with you fully, but come on! the other 5,893,288 people? I see you live in a rather small world.

  • These guys are my idols. They have excellent technical mastery of their instrument! especially at 2:18...

  • True Masters; Ive also been watching this for my whole life, and true mastery never gets old! And, believe it or not, I always gaining some kind of knowledge, every time I watch it. -SSO Cello chr. 5

  • la capacità di sognare ad occhi aperti, fantastico

  • Sitting on my couch with the lights off and my legs crossed...

    oh yeah...

    Feel like a Sir

    XD

  • this is awesome, they playing is really great... but for MY taste, i think the cello would sound better than the viola...

  • aca se ve el verdadero talento de los musicos...

  • Won-der-ful

  • bom, mas o cara do video anterior foi mais foda - na minha opinião... rsrsr

  • After I watched this, I caught myself instinctively clapping.

  • I came here to see for myself why the P/Z version is bad. What madness they speak of. This was a great performance. :)

  • @mrSk8Chiller

Lol, I believe there are a bit more than 6 million people in the world x]

    (try 6,775,235,700 - 106,712 next time)

  • @mrSk8Chiller the other 5,893,288 people??? i think you forgot to add 000 in the end :)

  • Und Zack Buff! Es kann so einfach klingen! :D

  • Thank God for music like this. Makes life that much easier to endure :)

Great music in the hands of great performers. What's not to love.

  • Как будто пилят дрова:)

  • @mrSk8Chiller .....LOL..... you forgot a couple of zeros behind both numbers. But I agree, 5,000,000,000 are missing out

  • @OoAlmRoDgZoO lol. At the rate the world reproduces it's actually, 6,700,000,000 that are missing out. xD I can't believe we are so close to the 7 billion mark. In just 30 more years we'll be there. :P Whether that be bad or good.

  • Без изюминки. Все так дико статично. Грустно.

  • beautifuul^^ <3

  • 11 People disliked this? 9 of the eleven must be college students being snobby and 1 perfectionist upset that they added a couple grace notes to the original piece and 1 guy who is ticked because he couldn't play either part on his best day. I've always admired Perman and Zukerman. This piece is a great testiment to the tight musical bond they forged over the years.

  • Perlman is the KING of KINGS!

  • Any collaboration between these two virtuosi is a joy. Many thanks for posting this. Best wishes.

  • this is so beautiful.... i LOVE this pace! and Perlman and Zukerman are MASTERS! they make that this piece enters my heart :0

  • the best piece ..

  • Hm, do they both play without shoulder rests? Or are they the ones that are underneath the violin and don't hook onto the sides

  • @Sortudinho A lot of times when I watch professional violinists, they use towels instead of shoulder rests.

I think these two are using towels too.

  • @squishedjellybear

From what I've learnt, they use cloths or towels because the sweat from your chin and neck can rot the wood or something.

and the shoulder rest is underneath the instrument. I can't tell if they're using one, but the shoulder rest is optional; some people find it easier to play without it, while others can't play without it.

  • ahhh.... esta cancion me llega al corazon y proboca que hayan muchas emociones dentro de mi... no me canso de escucharla. Es tan hermosa, que las palabras no se acercarian a describirla.

  • @mrSk8Chiller he he its a small world after all
