The 80s were good because you could like groups as varied as spandau ballet , chic earth wind and fire and prefab - But, Paddy's lyrics are streets ahead of anybody else though. And he  does deserve more recognition. he comes across as a very modest bloke and extremely intelligent without being full of it.

Love this song. If you read the lyrics I am sure its about a guy that set his vision at school of becoming a rockstar but he ended up not getting there.... Everybodys moved on and he still thinks he is the king of rock and roll in his head.... He probably ended up as a janitor or a cleaner. Its all quite sarcastic... Hot Dog Jumping Far alberquerque never got out of his home town...... I could be way off the mark

Apparently he wrote the song with his guitar on the bus while trying to come up with the most ridiculous thing he could think off. He said it took him weeks to be able to perform it fully without busting out laughing haha.

Excellent video -- one of the best videos of all time (and for what I've always thought was one of the lesser Sprout tunes). Between the guy in the toad head and dancing hot dogs, this one is A1 ultrafine.

you must be joking!! this is the only decent song they ever wrote! I had the unfortunate pleasure of sampling their greatest hits compilation and found their other "songs" dull. It might be "lesser" from a pretentious point of view.

There I'd have to disagree with you "this is the only decent song they wrote"; well when you sampled you obviously didn't listen enough. I am not a Prefab Sprout fan but one of music in general and you are way off the mark. This band wrote intelligent lyrics and great melody and summed it all up in a delivery that encapsulated the emotion they were trying to portray.
