@davethehostage I actually like both styles. I don't like ABR but I do like some bands that sound "kinda" like them, such as Counterparts, Misery Signals, The Ghost Inside, etc.
Post Botch Projects for newbies interested in what happened to the four from Tacoma: These Arms are Snakes (r.i.p.), Russian Circles, Minus The Bear, Roy (r.i.p.), Narrows. Brian played bass in TAAS, Tim plays drums in RC, Dave K. plays guitar in Minus, and Dave V. STILL can roar like no one's business in Narrows, and fronted Roy, a country duo, with his Brother. and @realmuzak, you're thinking MATHcore also Not just Metalcore.
nah d00dz this is a metalcore/mathcore/crustpunk/hardcore/dropbeat (Because they're influenced by converge). all you guys are wrong. I am the the supreme knower of metal genres, because genres are all that matter to music.
@KGGalb You got one thing wrong, none of those genres you listed have anything to do with Metal, outside the fact that they're (at least the first four) varying offshoots of Hardcore Punk with different Metal influences.
They ain't Metal genres, son. They Punk. Which is why they all turn to shit the moment they get any sort of commercial success, because the moment you take the anti-commercial/mainstream sentiments out of Punk, you lose the entire idea of Punk, and end up with crap that sucks.
@ThazuaBlackarrow You do know that I'm kidding right? Im making fun of all those people who argue about metal genres. Metal is metal, and if you are way into knowing the genres of metal then youre doing it wrong and blowing it. Heavy music is heavy, listen to it and enjoy....no matter what genre it is.
@KGGalb I know you're joking. About the obsessive nature many people show towards sub-genres. I was simply stating that every sub-genre you listed is Punk, not Metal. Meaning you jokingly stating you are the supreme knower of Metal genres, even if you are joking, is still wrong.
They're two separate entities. Metal is Metal, but all that was Punk. Simple. You don't have to be overly obsessed about sub-genres and classifications to be able to tell the difference between two plain genres.
@KGGalb So if it's metal, then it's good? Not every subgenre of metal has to be good, just because it's metal, and if I enjoy metal I have to enjoy every subgenre, good or bad, just because it's heavy? Shit son, talk about being a dumb poser.
@RobinsonProductionz Hardcore is a punk genre, metalcore mixes punk with metal, post-hardcore as implied is a post-hardcore movement and is more melodic and "emotional" compared to true hardcore.
@TristanTheMonsta listen to the music well and you can easily hear the differences, its not like im waisting much time determining what kind of music this is. it just pops in my head.
lol there's no need to classify so strictly...only geeky idiots insist on it.I personally classify musi on something i like and dislike...dis is definetly something i like.
great music but i dont understand why people get so agressive with great bands like this. its almost like if they feel they own it and dont want to share.
The term mathcore bugs me. Math exists in all kinds of music. Yes, I agree that some bands use a larger variety of time signatures than others bands. For example, this band, Helmet, Dream Theater, Mudvayne, even some Metallica and early Shadows Fall. The genres are so confusing these days. Heavy metal previously refered to what we call hair metal, like the Scorpions and Whitesnake, but now it doesn't. Thrash, speed, black and death metal, tech death, death core, metalcore. Who can keep up?
@selurxelpirt love your butch page....everyone, please go there and leave lots of butch messages for our butch friend. I think you're right, that's what bands do, decide to rip off a style, remarket it and see how it works. You've obviously been in lots of bands and are very wise.... TW*T!
Jesus people argue over what genre this is and to be honest i call it metalcore and i don't give a shit what it is whether it's metalcore or mathcore or whatever it's good fuckin music so just calm down and listen to it. But i do agree that mathcore is a retarded name.
@sparhawk16 neither. He is just yelling via his throat. Most bands of this era didn't employ the fry technique, and I hardly count False Chord a technique, as ANYONE can do it instantly.
Killswitch's second album was actually really good, then they turned to shit after that. And I agree, there are only a few bands in the modern metalcore scene worth listening to.
@selurxelpirt I honestly don't remember tagging this. Part of the tag is the bands Botch dissolved into, (Russian Circles, TAAS, Minus the Bear, etc). I think I might have just taken last.fm tags or something. Obviously Botch sounds nothing like Lamb of God or Killswitch engage (neither of which of ever listened to btw). In all honesty I think I might have just done it to grab views or something.
@I am curious what you'd classify this as if not metalcore. As I classify this, middle career Converge, and DEP as the early forefathers of metalcore, and then the genre to have disbanded fairly quickly with only minor bands still playing a style that really resembles it. And then of course KsE and LoG taking up the name metalcore, despite having no real resemblence to the original style.
Also I'm pretty sure Converge, Knut, and Zao would have at least existed without Botch.
@realmuzak I guess I would retrospectively call We Are The Romans a metalcore record. Like Protopunk, when The MC5, Stooges and The New York Dolls were doing their thing, nobody was calling it Punk Rock. Many of those into Botch's music are going to argue with you up and down that they are not metalcore. Metalcore is out played and boring, and nobody wants to label Botch as such. I say the forerunners are Converge, Botch, Coalesce and Shai Hulud.
@realmuzak Progressive mathcore, I suppose. But then again, mathcore is a sub-genre of metalcore. Either way, Botch rules, despite how much those other bands suck. Botch is really the only metalcore band I like.
@realmuzak Botch is mathcore, which is a subgenre of metalcore. So yes, they're metalcore. However, they're nowhere NEAR the type of shitty metalcore that KsE is.
@realmuzak Botch toured with all of those bands. As well as shai hulud and coalesce. They were contemporaries so of course they would have still existed.
@realmuzak Botch, old Cave In, Kiss it Goodbye, Deadguy.. all metalcore. The change into what it became happened around the early 2000's, particularly with the explosion of KSE first full length, Lamb of God's first full length and As I Lay Dying.. it took on more of a "metal" sound. These bands to me, sounded very discordant punk influenced chaotic and a bit 'mathy'... but in my opinion, metalcore none the less. Just the early, BEST metalcore sound in my opinion.
