I was in the 1st grade watching Happy Days. The joke of the month in class was something about the Fonz, King Kong, and the Mummy on top of the Empire State Building, but I forgot the punchline and the details. I remember this month!! Sept 76!!
The Bionic Woman was cancelled on ABC because the head of the network, Fred Silverman, didn't want another show with a "flat chested blonde". Even though it was doing pretty good in the ratings. So NBC picked up the show, where it continued to well in the ratings, and hired Fred Silverman as it's network head. Unfortunately for the Bionic Woman fans.
In 6th grade jamie was everything me and my friends wanted to be. Tennis pro, teacher, bionic, and an astronaut boyfriend. Sigh.
Ironically though, Richard Anderson and Martin Brooks appeared on both shows even when Bionic Woman was on NBC. The only two actors to ever appear on two different networks playing the same characters on two different shows. Thats TV history not likely to be seen again. Those actors were paid by Universal as contract players and got double paychecks. Nice.
Thanks for posting. But that beginning segment where Jamie is hitting Bigfoot doesn't look familiar. Was that scene edited out? I went back and looked for it on You Tube and could not find it.
@BigDickMcGirk I agree with you. They axed it because they were idiots! I liked the addition of Max, the Bionic Dog to the NBC lineup, but there was little mention about Steve after they went to NBC. The Bionic Woman was and still is a great show!
Yea. I always wondered why ABC dropped Bionic Woman. What were the ratings like on season 2? I thought that was the BEST season of the three. Thank God NBC picked it up for another season. It seems I read somewhere that they were running out of story lines or something and even though it was doing good in the ratings, that's the main reason they got rid of it....But who knows.
@mark40511 The real reason Bionic Woman was dropped by ABC is they already had another expensive bionic show enjoying good ratings too. It was a cost cutting move by ABC. Meanwhile NBC was so desperate for a hit show, they picked it up immediately. As it turns out, it only lasted one last season.
Funny i remember all these clearly-more so seeing them on here and yet the 90's shows i cannot even recall-thats how forgettable tv has become, disposable
@SidJustice1 it was on abc and nbc had "three's company" which they traded to abc for "the bionic woman". abc got the better end of that deal alright.
@MisterBouncyBounce Shows have on occasion migrated from one network to another ("Medium" and "Scrubs" are more recent examples of this) but I watched "Three's Company" right from its debut and it was most definitely ABC from the start.
@robatsea2009 hmm i can't seem to find any reference to my claim, but i know something like that happened, i might be thinking of "taxi"but i feel certain it had to do with BW/3's..
What was that theme used in the promo of Rich Man, Poor Man? I don't recall them using it in the series but it was almost always used in the promos. Granted I was only 14 at the time and this was 34 years ago.
Boy, ABC programmer Fred Silverman really knew how to promote a schedule! Tuesday and Wednesday nights were SOLID for the network in 1976-'77 {and "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" leading the way}...with the exception of "RICH MAN, POOR MAN, BOOK II"; it never matched the popularity of the original mini-series on which it was based, and ended after one season. And Roz Kelly's "Pinky Tuscadero" abruptly vanished from "HAPPY DAYS" after that season (she's not doing too well in real life these days, either).

The Bionic Woman aired on NBC during its final year 77-78Wednesday , it placed #17 in the ratings and for some stupid reason, they axed it.

@BigDickMcGirk ABC claimed the show did not get the demo it wanted. #17 and they kill it! Smart move.
