I'm Canadian and I've had my share of border crossing stress. Most of the time it goes smoothly, we answer questions politely and we're on our way. If the guard has attitude, which some do, you have to know giving attitude back is not wise. This was almost the exact same thing that just happened to me,the Canadian border guard did'nt like the way i answered the foolish questions,and used these same tactics as a punishment. Their all on a power trip and should have some limitations put on their absolute power.And much psychological profiling is in order.

being an asshole by asking legal questions to authority is not against the law. they simply did not like him challenging what they were asking. all of which were reasonable questions to ask. this is purely an abuse of power and the members involved should be disciplined severely.

When I cross back into Canada, the Canadians guards are fine, nice enough, not as defensive, but whenever I cross into Blaine, WA from Vancouver it's hell because they're always ripping apart our car for nothing, simply because they can. Even when you are being nice and polite.. answering everything they ask. As an American, I am really ashamed of the CBP officers in this recording. The guy might have been rude, but being rude is not a crime. It isn't OK to trump up bullshit assault charges against someone just because they were rude. The guy never threatened anyone. That is total BS. His first mistake was answering the guard's first question with a mocking tone. Sure, "of which country are you citizens" is a pretty poor way to ask that question, but just answer the damn question don't repeat it as if you're judging the guy's grammar. Second mistake was to argue the merit of the guy's question. "We don't know yet... just looking for clothes." is a better answer than "Psh, I don't know does it matter?" It shouldn't take more than 20 seconds to cross if you just bite the bullet
Many American police officers have a Napoleon complex; the people generally effected are minorities. For one of my college courses the entire class took a trip to the local county jail, and I can recall one of the officers telling the class that he loves his job because he gets a "perverse pleasure" from his job. People from all nationalities need to wake up and realize that whatever happens to the least of us will ultimately confront those who think they're impervious to this type of treatment.

I've crossed the border into the US from Canada several times, and I've never had a problem at the border. The thing this guy was doing 'wrong' was being aggressive toward the officer and needlessly belligerent. The officers at the border aren't under any obligation to let you through, just give them direct, simple answers for the questions they ask and be polite and you won't have a problem.

The border guard was definitely on a power trip, fortunately this is a rare occasion, I was interrogated 19 years ago, they want as far as tell me that they think I was smuggling guns into America,lol, I corrected them as to how that works,lol, at the end of there trip they patted me on the back, and almost apologised, I wanted to sue them, body search...

I know someone who got taken off a bus, questioned and sat around for about an hour. After they gave her passport back and told her to go back on the bus. She asked why she got questioned they told her just get back on.
Incidents like this do happen, but I don't think this one is genuine. There is not one source that I can find for this story. Surely something like this incident, where the "couple" supposedly had an actual recording of what happened, would produce many news stories. But not a single source can be found documenting that the incident took place. Also, the recording device would have been removed by the police long before this whole conversation took place.

It's a border incident, I wouldn't expect to see there being any sources able to be found because of that reason. His first mistake was answering the guard's first question with a mocking tone. Sure, "of which country are you citizens" is a pretty poor way to ask that question, but just answer the damn question don't repeat it as if you're judging the guy's grammar. Second mistake was to argue the merit of the guy's question. "We don't know yet... just looking for clothes." is a better answer than "Psh, I don't know does it matter?" It shouldn't take more than 20 seconds to cross if you just bite the bullet

For one of my college courses the entire class took a trip to the local county jail, and I can recall one of the officers telling the class that he loves his job because he gets a "perverse pleasure" from his job. The thing this guy was doing 'wrong' was being aggressive toward the officer and needlessly belligerent. The officers at the border aren't under any obligation to let you through, just give them direct, simple answers for the questions they ask and be polite and you won't have a problem.

Incidents like this do happen, but I don't think this one is genuine. There is not one source that I can find for this story. Surely something like this incident, where the "couple" supposedly had an actual recording of what happened, would produce many news stories. But not a single source can be found documenting that the incident took place. Also, the recording device would have been removed by the police long before this whole conversation took place.

It's a border incident, I wouldn't expect to see there being any sources able to be found because of that reason. This is so fake in all manner. The terminology used by the alleged officers is totally inaccurate. Secondly, given the situation, no officer would initiate an arrest based solely on this verbal exchange and not Assistant U.S. Attorney would prosecute under Title 18USC111 (Assault on a Federal Officer) The folks who produced this bogus video should be ashamed of themselves for portraying these U.S. officers in such a bad light. Give a little man power and he looks for an excuse to abuse it.This level of annoyed insolence warranted a warning,and only escalated when the border guard had to prove how much power he had.My family and I will not return to the US in the foreseeable future if this is the kind of ignorance we can expect.

@shingamikid - Since Canadians entered WW2 over two years BEFORE the USA did, I would guess Canadians know perfectly well what Nazis are. By the time the Americans entered the war, all the young, strong Nazis had been killed ..... by nations that included Canada. Americans got the leftovers.
As far as this video, Americans have gone nutso-crazy as far as security since 9/11. But the Canadian here shouldn't have had the chip on his shoulder. He was more to blame, imo. And I'm Canadian.

I have a hard time believing this is even real. Regardless, I go into the US about 10-12 times per year. When I answer the questions without attitude, I get to go. What a concept! If you don't like it, don't go. Simple as that.

Sounds fake to me. It's recorded from the traveler's perspective and ends very dramatically with the slam of the door. Very propaganda, very fear the police. Since it came from the traveler's perspective, it would have had to have been his recording device, so he would have been out now and able to share the background story and aftermath, but there is none.
