I give most of my music away for free under a creative commons license for non commercial use. I am happy that people want to download my music and share it. But if you can afford to pay, and would like to help me and other struggling artists like me to make a living, then why not consider some of the alternatives, for example…. (See my post below, and thankyou, we need your help and support.)
If you are looking for quality, original, hassle free, legal, inexpensive, soundtrack music for your next Youtube video or short film....try "Rumblefish Friendly Music" Just follow the link in the "About Me" section on my page. Only $1.99 per track. (Some good songs...not just library music).
I can see why some bands might not agree to having actors play their song on film. If the song was really good, then the band that originally wrote it might never get any glory for their accomplishment other than royalties. Because the song would be known as the song that band on Scott Pilgrim played, and not Metric.
For an independent artist music to be played in a movie and using actors as the front singers can be very touchy for the actual artist. People like to relate certain images to movies and so the actual artist can get lost in the mix as to some might believe the actor is the one really singing the tune.
I think it would be really cool for the actors to consult the band playing music for the movie that they are going to be in. Its also a pretty good way to make the movie more realistic.
Pretty neat how they get bands to create songs for them and then they are able to tweak it a little to fit their film. Also, it kind of sucks for the bands to have to re-write their songs for the directors.
Seeing how they film the bands with the recoding would make a lot of sense for the band to make their music video there with the movie like you see a lot on music videos, really interesting
Iagree it should be an honor for actors to perform the artwork of the musicians. Its crazy how much work goes into everything and all the people involved from even managers to producers.
I understand egos is part of the puzzle when it comes to making a finish project but another way to look at the working relationship between the actors and the musicians is that it's an honor for the actors to be making a tribute the musicians work. What could be a higher honor?

It must feel great to get asked to write a song for a movie.

Movies play a big role in the music world. I think its nice that artists get asked to write songs to fit a certain movie.

Maybe the money helps with smoothing the news about actors performing on the camera instead of the actual band...

That's funny, about how the audience really isn't listening to the music, just pretending like they are.

Yeah, that was kinda surprising...

I am facinated with the way they put the music into a movie and not put the movie in it at all until post production.

It was interesting to hear them speak about filming the band playing live along with additional recordings.
