Its a commerical scare tactic. Tea Baggers and GOP run on bring citizens to FEAR (i.e. Bush claiming WMD etc....) My guess is this is someone that doesnt want to pay any taxes and doesnt believe in entitlements which btw Social Security is not we give the govt. a certain percentage out of our check and our employer also pays into the system. So its not an entitlement its our money. This person is one that would be the 1st in line for govt. aid if something happened & assisstance is needed.
I'm Chinese, and my APUSH teach told me about this video today, he was trying to teach us about race perceptions...
but this video is so effin' racist,
I can't believe the so-called-melting-pot in America made this commercial to display certain political parties. There is so much that's wrong with this. Using one race to define another race, it happens in our society, but to display it in such a context where it is a national commercial, that's just a tad to overboard.
Anyone who have lived many years in China and America knows America is better than China. We shouldn't make ad like this. This is embarrassing and arrogant. China in so many areas has so many more years to go in term of achievement US status.
As a Chinese I do like this professor to become the leader of China, he looks tough on America but the current Chinese leaders are always showing weak to the US, they should sell the US T-bills at least half of them then take the money to boost the Chinese economy.
Haqhaha blaming Republicans / Tea Party activists? Don't you mean Democrats / Liberals? The red wants tax cuts and smaller government, which are the very things that push corporations over seas. The creator of this video must not understand ideologies.
and wtf? this video is incorrect... all of the EU and Canada are trying to decrease government becuase it didnt work when they tried it 30 years ago ... why doesnt America just wake up! More government isnt the solution, government IS THE PROBLEM
The point of the vid had nothing to do with big government. It had to do with big armies. The US is responsible for 49% of the entire worlds defense buggets all combined, according to UN numbers.
Heck the point of the vid was even in favour of big goivernment. And the EU is not really scaling down on government either. Just pruning it where needed and possible.
Yesterday Mr. Obama announced that 80% of Amerkicans want to pay more taxes.
When you are through laughing, consider this: 100% of the American people who don't PAY any taxes want those who do pay taxes to pay more taxes. 50% of the American people pay no taxes at all.
Yeah dumbfucks poor people cost little support. Look how much money is lost to paying the rich bitch taxes. Compare that to the number of jobs made. This commercial is spot on
I'm sorry but government 'regulation' is how government gets in 'bed' with business. From there crony capitalism is born. It seems that you and I have 180 degree understandings of the process. We will never agree. "This conversation can serve no purpose any longer. I strongly suggest you take a stress pill and think things over."
The GOP and the Chamber of Commerce held seminars in cities across the US promoting "outsourcing to China". It was called the "China Grassroots Program". Anyone can look it up on the Internet. It was very successful. Since then, the US has poured millions into Republican political campaigns. The GOP has worked tirelessly to block any bill aimed at bringing jobs back. Not a secret. Do a search.
This is based on a retarded Tea Party ad that ran against the Democrats, so they simply changed some of the subtitles to make it more reflective of reality... it takes place decades in the future so it doesn't matter if the translation is accurate, because its an actor talking anyway...
I do not care what problem you think is the biggest. Undoubtedly, the biggest problem America faces is our lack of responsibility. This video proves it; the democrats blame the republicans, the reupblicans blame the democrats. Your party does not matter, all politicians will be the same. The one time a politician gets into office who does not blame the other party and tells people to accept responsibility for their actions, he should be given presidency, but in America he'll be voted out.
If it wasn't because of the Chinese during the Korean war...Korea would be one today! Stupid Chinese commie bastards helped criminal Kim Il sung invade and kill millions of South Koreans...Today they are still the only ally of North Korea’s brutal megalomaniac leader Kim Jongil , which likes to drink $500 French wine while his citizens starve to death!!!
Whenever someone complains about all the manufacturing jobs being outsourced to China, blame the unions not Republicans. Paying for union benefits and big salaries makes it nearly impossible for American companies not to outsource jobs to the Chinese who will work for less than one dollar an hour. Just remember productivity is the number one priority. Union catering.....not so much.
So basically all you that clicked like want to live in a communist country? Go find someone that came here from the former USSR ,Cuba, or any other communist country. Ask them how great it was and how well it's worked out. We could just keep going the way the Left has us going and then I can just ask you all how it's working out for while we are standing in the bread lines together. Hopefully people like Tea Partiers will save this country in spite of you morons.
U all do know tho that the real rich fucks who are screwin us all ARE Republicans. Look at GMC, they didnt even pay taxes this year, or was it last year? If u wanna blame someone, blame it on the companies that use foreign labor and what not cuz they are the ones who sell cheep shit for alot more pofit and spends american money back out of the country.
It doesn't matter if you're left or right, because both sides are in bed with the banks at night. All you are doing is destroying what is left of America by being a Neo-Conservative or Social Democrat.
Both sides work to increase government, destroy individual freedom, and lower the standard of living of the citizens. Failing to understand how America's monetary system was compromised 98 years ago is what causes ignorance to be displayed. Both in the original video, this parody, and in general.
Haha, wow. I didn't say Libertarians were the be all, end all.
What I did imply, however, is that this invisible, fourth branch of government has been unable to compromise our political system with its control of our monetary system. It has, over time, been able to place in our Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches, more people who think along its lines, to a point where checks and balances are now irrelevant.
Your comment just proves my point. May God help us all.
If it wasn't because of the Chinese during the Korean war...Korea would be one today! Stupid Chinese commie bastards helped criminal Kim Il sung invade and kill millions of South Koreans...Today they are still the only friend of North koreans brutal megalomaniac leader, Kim il sung, which likes to dring $500 wine while his citizens starve to death!!!
Oh poor me, it's not my fault I don't have healthcare, I'm a victim! I need the government to wipe my ass please! I can't do anything for myself because things are too hard here in the richest country in the world.
@fiveryanfrenzy You are still playing pokemon at the age of 25, and you make Spore creatures of your pokemon. As a fellow gamer I am loathe to jump to conclusions, but I honestly think you are still being supported and/or live with your parents/family and you really shouldn't talk about shit you know nothing about.
@Starry2000 Who cares what games I play in my spare time? I live on my own and support myself as a software engineer. It sounds to me like you might just be projecting :)
@fiveryanfrenzy "Who cares what games I play in my spare time?"
I'm not surprised that you need me to hold your hand through this. Alright, read this very slowly and read three times before you comment again:
Your personal maturity, credibility, etc became relevant the moment you made that derogatory and blanket statement. I'm not seeing it and I don't believe it. Your posting with your business account, used for ebaying some electronics, that also has your pokemon vids and it reeks of teenager
@fiveryanfrenzy Right on dude! I saw this cancer patient the other day who was, like, all weak and in a wheelchair and stuff, and she was crying because she couldn't afford her treatment. And I'm all like, don't expect the government to help you, communist! Go to Europe or something if you want socialized healthcare! We pull ourselves up by our bootstraps here!
Then I got in my car and drove down the government-funded highway back to my condo I bought with a government-provided tax credit.
@johnmiles Sorry to hear you are so dependent on the government for survival. But who can blame you? You've grown up with government funded everything, so it's hard to see the flaws because it's all you've ever known. It's sad that so few people can conceive a land of economic freedom. But you're right about one thing, there are plenty of places in the world you can go to for socialism if you want, but nowhere else for the freedoms defined by the Constitution, so let us be, you're free to go.
@fiveryanfrenzy Gee, fiveryanfrenzy, I wish I could be as insightful as you! Unfortunately, I'm just a lowly member of the ignorant, unwashed masses.
I mean, I don't quite understand how you think you have such superior insight, seeing as you apparently live in the same society I do with "government funded everything." I guess you took the red pill?
@fiveryanfrenzy Newsflash dude: you're not the only one who understands civics. You conservatives/libertarians/tea baggers/Ron Paul fans/whatever-you-want-to-call-yourselves are the height of arrogance, acting as if you're the only ones who care about the Constitution.
@johnmiles We have to keep in mind that we are talking to a 25 year old man that apparently still plays pokemon and likes to post spore pictures of them in between his ebay listing videos. He also likes to troll with that same account. I could have told you that something was wrong with this picture before I actually saw that crap he posted.
@nomadicsky China is more capitalistic in that there are next to zero environmental regulations imposed on industry there? Or capitalistic in the sense that there are no workers' rights?
But seriously, all you capitalism fundamentalists should really consider setting up shop in China. You see, it's a lot easier for business to do whatever they want in a dictatorship where there's no pesky democratically-empowered citizenry demanding regulation and accountability to get in the way.
Mr. miles, your leftist drivel is humorous. Especially where you equate no worker rights to being capitalistic. Such a hoot. Oh and You understand what crony capitalism is correct? Because that’s what your boyfriends in China have.
@toddclemmer 'boyfriends in China.' Classy. Xenophobia AND homophobia, together at last. Todd did you enjoy the original version of the ad, or did you think that the professor needed a Fu Manchu beard and to visibly lust after men to be more 'realistic' in your eyes?
I mean I guess you could have girlfriends. I figured you were a woman.
My 'Bad'.
I must admit I respect you for at least using your real name. ;)
There is nothing racist in this commercial. Nothing sinister. It's truth. And it's meant to make people here in this country wake up to what the charlatans have been doing to us. Not to get them to hate the Chinese. Get with the program please.
@toddclemmer I consider the role played by unions to be essential to workers' rights. Tell me how unions come about in the kind of pure capitalist system people of your ilk promote? They don't. They end up being crushed by business, just like they were in this country throughout most of our history. Rights are maintained by a proactive government; they don't derive from this capitalist ideal you worship (which invariably leads to crony capitalism when left unchecked).
@toddclemmer Capitalism is just another imperfect human ideology, just like communism. And like any other ideology, it causes serious problems when people become inflexible fundamentalists about it. I know you don't want to hear it, but you laissez faire capitalists are really no less blindly idealistic and deluded than Marx was. Both of these ideologies are unworkable extremes.
Regulated capitalism and mixed economies are what has created widespread prosperity in the Western world.
Capitalism is designed to function the same way as nature. If left alone it will sustain and provide as long as the people stay aware and participate in their government. Regulation of capitalism is what causes the rot. Once the tentacles of government take hold it becomes crony capitalism. Fascism minus the Nationalism, which is what we have now and have had since FDR. So we really haven't even been truly capitalist! I say we start :)
@toddclemmer It's impossible for people to achieve the kind of awareness you speak of because corporations can hide information and deceive people. That's why government's regulatory role is important.
But go ahead and blame average people for not being aware enough, while they're being forced to work multiple jobs with less pay and lower benefits to get by. How's that perfect capitalist system doing in solving global warming, by the way?
@toddclemmer And strong government regulation and crony capitalism are directly opposed to one another. But it's no surprise our regulatory agencies have become corrupt when conservatives make it a priority to stack them full of industry hacks. Sabotaging government and then whining that it doesn't work: that's pretty much conservatives' M.O.
I thing this huge "debt" is the only downfall the USA has,
and Lord have Mercy but I think this is what is going to bring the country to its end
Sooner or later the Chinese is going to revolt against the USA, since they are going to eventually suffer its drawbacks of being a communism country for a long time.
Communists had one thing right. Uncontrolled accumulation of wealth by a fortunate few, who think they earned every penny, destroys the unity of a nation. 400 wealthy americans own as much as 155 million others combined. No effort justifies that discrepancy in wealth. And like the russians and the french, americans will likely take it back. I would say taxes are the most reasonable way to do it, but there ARE other ways. ;)
@bigspoon87 It's called freedom, get over it. If you don't like it, there are plenty of places in the world you can go that don't have the freedom we have in the US. You're free to go seek that out if you'd like.
@fiveryanfrenzy Freedom, eh? What about the freedom to live my life without having to worry about being financially ruined if I have health problems? What about the freedom to have a job where a union ensures I'm treated with dignity and respect? What about the freedom from want and fear that Roosevelt spoke of? These freedoms shouldn't belong just to those who come out on top in a capitalist system. We all deserve some basic security, that requires an active government.
@bigspoon87 "Take it back?" Do you know how hard those 400 wealthy Americans worked for their money? Do you know how many people they employ with the money they make? Do you know what happens to those people when you, "take back," the money the wealthy earned? I am in the lower/middle class and even I understand how moronic your words are. Taking from people who earn the money and giving it to someone who does the bare minimum is now how you build a healthy work force in America.
@Toredorm34 You really think those 400 people did more work and are more deserving of wealth than 155 million other Americans COMBINED? Or have they just managed to rig the system to their great advantage?
"Do you know how many people they employ with the money they make?"
As few as realistically possible, and preferably foreign workers who they can pay a pittance.
@Toredorm34 "Do you know what happens to those people when you, "take back," the money the wealthy earned?"
Uh, you get a more egalitarian society with less disparity of wealth and a bigger middle class, like post-New Deal America?
"I am in the lower/middle class"
Then you truly are deluded. You think the wealthy aren't gaming the economic and political system in every way they possibly can for THEIR benefit? Yet you don't think average people should be fighting for THEIR interests?
Republican-neocons support the unsustainable warfare state, while the Democrats- liberals support the unsustainable welfare state. Republicans in power tend to support a fascist type of economy and Liberals tend to support a combination of both fascism and communism. The bottom line: Both parties do not believe in, nor support the constitution, free markets, or true capitalism. Americans, you have no real choice when you vote for these people. BOTH PARTIES are destroying this country!
@thinkertank1 what is a Neocon? Is it a real word, or just an Alex Jones word? You and all the N.W.O conspiracy/911 was an inside job/big brother nut bags are right! Yes you’re on to something. I'm starting to believe this stuff!!! The only problem is your timing is off by 10 years. If the N.W.O was to be kicked off by G.W and the republicans, than why is it happening now when a Democrat is in office? Let me save you some time by answering for you. ITS BUSHES FAULT. such a cliche!!
@Onmetube Neoconservatism generaly describes the politician who claims to be conservative yet supports ever expanding big government programs like the prescription drug program or the DHS, (both put in place by Bush with the support of liberal democrats). Are you aware of the expense of just these 2 examples alone?. I blame Bush no more than I blame Clinton,Nixon,or Woodrow Wilson. The core problem is our monetary system. Thomas Jefferson opposed central banking and fiat currencies.
@Onmetube Continued- Both of which we have, via the privately owned Federal Reserve. Read what Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers had to say about paper (fiat), money and central banks. These guys were not idiots, they studied thousands of years of human history and knew that all great empires collapsed when the currency failed. The U.S. is repeating this history. It started with the creation of the Fed, and both parties support the Fed system. Watch "Money as Debt"
@Onmetube A true conservative is someone who supports and protects civil liberties, opposes nation building, opposes endless wars, opposes huge debts which can't be repaid, supports protecting the people with a strong national defense (which the constitution calls for), supports a sound currency (which is not subject to inflation), opposes huge unconstitututional social programs which we can't afford, supports States rights, a small central government, and individual freedom and liberty.
Nice how you have altered the words to benefit your cause to make conservative Americans look like the villains instead of your progressive socialist leaders who daily are running this country right into the ground.
Lame. China doesn't even allow there people unhindered access to the internet nor media that doesn't spew its totalitarian govt perspective. Look into Ron Paul's tea party 06 07 08 ...End the FED... Maybe less MSM and bs propaganda and more research is needed to what is real the enemy of humanity is here..... Govt (as always)
@BrokenSentence well if this country dont get its head out of its ass were gonna end up lot worse than you think. internet. shit well be lucky to have a power grid.
We don't have to worry about the Chinese.. we're being attacked from our own government... and becoming evermore enslaved by their corporate pimp masters.
dipshit, they already have universal healthcare and a command economy in china. They've had if for over 70 years. If you're going to be a left wing wank, at least know your history and facts you fucking queer!
@onbradley 2010 - 70 = 1940. In 1940 China was in the middle of WW II with the Nationalists and the Communists fighting not only the Japanese, but each other. It wasn't until after the Communists took control around 1949 that there was anything like "universal healthcare and a command economy in China". 2010 - 1949 = 61 which contrary to what you might think is less than 70. If you are going to be a right wing wank, at least know your history and facts, plus how to do simple arithmetic.
@TheBlackycat um dipshit you replied to the wrong guy. I didn't make those comments. Shows how brain dead you are and the lame fucks who gave you the thumbs up lol.
@TheBlackycat um dipshit, that was a gross figure. did you want me to nail it down to exact day? And i'm not a right winger. it's just the facts you pinko gay homosexual fag.
@onbradley Ah, the typical response from someone who doesn't know jack about what he/she is talking about and is proven wrong - infantile name-calling.
@TheBlackycat Why did end your point with an insult?? What you perceive to be true in your head is not true in others. Respect opinions and be willing to learn from someone you disagree with.
@Onmetube Are you referring to the "right wing wank" comment? If so, you need to read the original post I was commenting to which was very insulting, using cuss words and ending with areference to all the "left wing wanks" out there. My "right wing wank" response was in response to that author's use of the "left wing wank" term. Sorry if it offended you or others, it is addressed to the person whose comment I was responding to and no one else.
"It wasn't until after the Communists took control around 1949 that there was anything like "universal healthcare and a command economy in China". N the cultural revolution?
Right now it's the Democrats with all their entitlements and union backing that has done this. TEA Party people want to stop all the spending and big government. Less government controlling everything is the key. The government does not know how to run a business with a profit. Can you name anything that they control that runs as efficiently as private sector businesses? Hundreds of jobs are available. They pass our unemployment checks and people will claim them until they finally run out.
Wow do people really and I mean really believe that taking our money, and when that's not enough borrowing even more money and give it to programs that generate NOTHIING is a good thing? Are our schools really dumbing people down this much. The only intellignet thought here was with outsourcing of jobs, which started under Clintons watch. Both parties have sold us out. We have an extreme left leaning party and a center left party. Common sense has been abandonned.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's weird because the Glass Steagall act was repealed by a Democrat government in the 90s which allowed all the mess this country is in in the first place. If anything ; the TEA(Taxed enough already) party core proposal is reverse all the taxation blackhole preventing the outcome you see in the video.
@AStamer Chinese professor will tell you that Glass Steagall Act was repealed in 1999 under a Republican controlled congress by the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act, who are all Republicans. Sen. Phil Gramm (R, Texas), Rep. Jim Leach (R, Iowa), and Rep. Thomas J. Bliley, Jr. (R, Virginia), the co-sponsors of the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act.
The repeal of the Glass-Steigall act was spearheaded and championed by the Clinton administration. Certainly, the libertarians who are the staunchest opponents of the US Federal Reserve system and the banking cartel it represents, claim no affiliation whatsoever with the Democratic Party. While they may feel alienated by and critical of the Republican Party, they claim stronger affiliation with the Republicans than with the Democrats. So Right deserves more credit than Left.
The repealing of glass-steagall would not have happened without the penn stroke of a Democratic president. Just because some RINOS that worked for your side, as they do today, decided to flush the future of their country down the shitter by destroying the housing market doesn't mean you can rewrite history’s headline.
@TacoEqualsFtw I'm more interested in defending ideals than people. Glass Steagall was put in place under a progressive Democrat and repealed under a conservative Democrat by extremely conservative, corporatist Republicans. I think that's about accurate, no?
@johnmiles I would argue that Democrats are as much about special interests as Republicans. Corporations side with whomever the tide is shifting with. It was Republicans in 2004 and Democrats in 2008. To them each party is a color on a roulette table and if they play their money smartly they will always come out on top.
@TacoEqualsFtw I don't disagree that a lot of Dems are about special interests. Like I said, Clinton was a conservative Democrat. But as ChinaRepublicans pointed out, Republicans pushed more for repealing Glass Stegall. More Republicans voted for NAFTA than Democrats. Republicans blocked repeal of oil company subsidies, and they're trying to strip the EPA of power now so industry can pollute with impunity. Support progressive Democrats if you don't like corporate influence in politics.
@johnmiles Simply because person A votes for a bill that is more conducive to business doesn't mean he/she was influenced by corporations. The connection to corporations may be correlating, but not a factor for causation. I also believe the assertion that the Repubs want corporations to "pollute with impunity" is a drastic hyperbole. That all being said, I hate both parties, and will continue to support Libertarianism.
@TacoEqualsFtw Yes, it's just a lucky coincidence that GOP policy happens to be beneficial to big business AND all the major business groups like the Chamber of Commerce overwelmingly support them. Uh-huh.
And the EPA is currently the only avenue of regulating CO2 emissions; limiting their power like the GOP wants would let industry continue to emit CO2 with immunity.
@TacoEqualsFtw In fact, if you were paying attention, you would know this is a major sticking point with the budget negotiations going on now. Republicans insist on putting language in to curb the EPA. Just another example of who they work for, as if anymore evidence were needed.
But have fun being oh-so individualistic and non-conformist and being a libertarian and all that, while us serious-minded people continue to try to work realistically within the system to promote change.
@johnmiles Don't understand why you become to hostile and dick-headed towards Libertarians. Libertarians are against corporate welfare as much as liberals. And being pro-free market is not synonymous with being pro-business. People are able to have personal convictions without being bribed to hold them. Thus, simply because I believe policy A is superior to policy B doesn't mean supporters of policy A "bought me off."
@TacoEqualsFtw I'm hostile to libertarians (the word doesn't need to be capitalized, Mr. Grammar, unless one is referring to registered members of the Libertarian Party) because they're constantly braying about the Constitution and liberty as if they're the only ones who care about these things and their conceptions about them are the only ones that matter. They are the height of arrogance.
@TacoEqualsFtw Libertarians think they're so clever, when there is NO historical precedent for their grand ideas about free markets and fundamentalist laissez faire economic EVER working. Quite the opposite. Look at the Gilded Age, where lack of government regulation and greedy big business combined to keep millions in poverty and wretched living and working conditions.
@johnmiles Also, while not entirely relevant, this very much irks me. You wrote:
"Just another example of who they work for"
Proper English would read:
"Just another example of for whom they work."
"For" is a preposition and thus, is incapable of concluding a sentence. Additionally, this sentence is in the accusative case, and "who" is the subject, thus necessitating the usage of "whom."
@TacoEqualsFtw You may be against corporate welfare, but a lack of a proactive, regulatory government ALWAYS leaves a power vacuum that big business will fill in a way that maximizes profits for them and screws everyone else.
Republicans aren't just pro-free market; they're total corporatists. There's no other reason to promote gutting the EPA, which attempts to address environmental problems business has always failed miserably at being responsible about.
@TacoEqualsFtw Also, you might be interested to know that the idea that it's gramatically incorrect for a sentence to end with a preposition is just an obnoxious myth. Google the quote often attributed to Winston Churchill about prepositions ending sentences.
I can't keep up this argument because I'm way too busy. But do please challenge your views and try to read opinion from other sources, instead of getting caught up in the libertarian ideological bubble that so many do.
@johnmiles Whether or not you choose to end the sentence in a preposition still leaves the matter of neglect with respect to the accusative case. Who must transform into whom.
I never said Republicans were pro-free markets. Indeed, they're quite the opposite, corporatist. They promote regulation, and intervention to aid business instead of allowing them to fail. Both parties equally distort markets in an ever futile effort to promote prosperity, albeit unsuccessfully.
@TacoEqualsFtw Being completely for free markets IS corporatism. If corporations were worthy of being trusted and capable of being responsible in all matters, we wouldn't need Superfund, for example.
There should be intervention to save business occasionally. It would've been unfair to let U.S. automakers and the jobs they provide disappear when all of their global competitors are helped by their governments in numerous ways.
@TacoEqualsFtw Libertarians spout fundamentalist dogma and naively think everything would somehow be better if big business just had a little more freedom to do whatever they want, when the deregulation they promote just allows ruthlessness and greed to prevail.
And who is big business to argue with libertarianism? After all, they fund all your think tanks, if they didn't start them to begin with (see Charles Koch and the Cato Institute). I'm sorry, but libertarians are massive tools.
@johnmiles It's quite enjoyable to read your responses subliminally lined with arrogance, disdain, and pompousness. Free markets are not corporatist - they're nothing. Hundreds of corporations would line up to protest against a reversal into free markets because they would receive less benefits than they currently do. Just as welfare recipients would argue against cutting welfare, so too would corporations protest a reduction in protective regulation and corporate handouts.
@TacoEqualsFtw Arrogance? You libertarians are the 5% who always want to tell everyone else they're completely misinformed.
But you didn't respond to most of my points. Tell me, if big business driven by free markets is so damn great, why did we have Love Canal, Enron, Three Mile Island, or any other number of catastrophes? Of course, I'm sure you have some way of blaming each of these things on government instead of irresponsible business that should've been more closely regulated.
@johnmiles "You libertarians." Take a chill pill and calm down. I address you not as a representative with a title but merely as a human. The fact that you become so offended by every response and feel the need to pop off smug remarks really speaks volumes. I do not have a problem with episodes like Enron. As long as preferred stockholders, stockholders, then bond holders are compensated with what is left of the company, I do not care.
@TacoEqualsFtw Kiss my ass. This libertarian shit was cute when you were bashing Bush along with everyone else, but now you're all just proving yourselves to be corporatist tools.
And estimates say investors in Enron lost anywhere from $60 to $80 billion dollars. You're really so willing to drink this free market koolaid that you're fine with that? Or are you just ignorant about how much of a clusterfuck Enron was?
Oh, and did I mention the Wall Street crash? Is it the fault of government regulations so many bankers were ruthless/incompetent? People arguing for free markets always end up enabling abuses by business.
You realize it's possible to support market intervention to prevent abuse rather than for the purpose of corporate welfare, right? I mean, that's traditionally been the liberal position. I understand why you might be confused though, what with all the corporatists in the Democratic party now
@TacoEqualsFtw Also, to assert that Three Mile Island occurred because of "unrestrained free markets" or "a lack of regulation" is ABSURD. This is life, and mistakes and shit happens. Personally, I've been to the site of Chernobyl and can assure you that it was not a product of deregulation. The USSR was the epitome of regulation and bureaucracy. Sometimes bad things happen no matter what. Your liberal quest for utopia will never come to fruition, despite your delusions otherwise.
@TacoEqualsFtw It's absurd to suggest the Three Mile Island plant should've been more closely regulated? Really? France has far more nuclear plants and has never had such an incident.
And liberals aren't the ones thinking they can create a utopia, dipshit. Libertarians are the ones who blithely think deregulation solves every problem. I'm not saying government is perfect (certainly a poor, corrupt government like the USSR's wasn't), but it has an important role to play, just as business does.
@TacoEqualsFtw That libertarians continue to spout their laissez faire gospel in this day and age, after Enron, after WorldCom, after Lehman Brothers and AIG and the Wall Street crash in general, after the BP oil spill in the Gulf, after Tepco's mishandling of its nuclear plants in Japan (the ones they faked safety inspection records for), etc., etc., really proves their delusion.
Libertarianism is a political philosophy by and for big business, and its adherents are either rich or tools.
@johnmiles Firstly, I have to say: LOL UMAD? Clearly you're incapable of having a civilized discussion without resorting to name calling. Your thinking of "he disagrees with me, therefore he is a dipshit" is classic egotism. I went from actually enjoying the conversation to relishing the fact that you get so mad.
GRRR LIBERTARIANS MAKE ME SO BUTTHURT.
Go ahead and wrap the world in bubble wrap. Ban knives, regulate people's breathing patterns. You will NEVER eliminate suffering.
@TacoEqualsFtw You're whining about name calling, and then suggesting I'm the one who's butt hurt? Laughable. Politics gets contentious, dude. Grow some thick skin, stop whining about getting your feelings hurt, and argue the issues.
You're not a dipshit because you disagree with me; you're a dipshit for at least 10 other totally unrelated reasons.
Libertarian irrationality at its finest. We can't eliminate ALL suffering, therefore we shouldn't eliminate ANY? You know, the government can never eliminate murder either..
But given that most people accept government has at least some basic role to play in helping to create a society that's more fair, I think I'll throw my hat in with progressives. Rather then those who want to destroy government whatever the consequences.
I'd say its pretty ACCURATE.

As a Chinese I do like this professor to become the leader of China, he looks tough on America but the current Chinese leaders are always showing weak to the US, they should sell the US T-bills at least half of them then take the money to boost the Chinese economy.

Robertz1986 10 months ago
I do not care what problem you think is the biggest. Undoubtedly, the biggest problem America faces is our lack of responsibility. This video proves it; the democrats blame the republicans, the reupblicans blame the democrats. Your party does not matter, all politicians will be the same. The one time a politician gets into office who does not blame the other party and tells people to accept responsibility for their actions, he should be given presidency, but in America he'll be voted out.

That's interesting China doesn't provide universal healthcare. Its more capitalistic than the US in some ways.
nomadicsky 11 months ago
@nomadicsky China is more capitalistic in that there are next to zero environmental regulations imposed on industry there? Or capitalistic in the sense that there are no workers' rights?
But seriously, all you capitalism fundamentalists should really consider setting up shop in China. You see, it's a lot easier for business to do whatever they want in a dictatorship where there's no pesky democratically-empowered citizenry demanding regulation and accountability to get in the way.
johnmiles 11 months ago

toddclemmer 11 months ago
@toddclemmer I consider the role played by unions to be essential to workers' rights. Tell me how unions come about in the kind of pure capitalist system people of your ilk promote? They don't. They end up being crushed by business, just like they were in this country throughout most of our history. Rights are maintained by a proactive government; they don't derive from this capitalist ideal you worship (which invariably leads to crony capitalism when left unchecked).
johnmiles 10 months ago
@toddclemmer Capitalism is just another imperfect human ideology, just like communism. And like any other ideology, it causes serious problems when people become inflexible fundamentalists about it. I know you don't want to hear it, but you laissez faire capitalists are really no less blindly idealistic and deluded than Marx was. Both of these ideologies are unworkable extremes.
Regulated capitalism and mixed economies are what has created widespread prosperity in the Western world.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles
I say we start :)
toddclemmer 10 months ago
@toddclemmer It's impossible for people to achieve the kind of awareness you speak of because corporations can hide information and deceive people. That's why government's regulatory role is important.
But go ahead and blame average people for not being aware enough, while they're being forced to work multiple jobs with less pay and lower benefits to get by. How's that perfect capitalist system doing in solving global warming, by the way?
johnmiles 9 months ago
@toddclemmer And strong government regulation and crony capitalism are directly opposed to one another. But it's no surprise our regulatory agencies have become corrupt when conservatives make it a priority to stack them full of industry hacks. Sabotaging government and then whining that it doesn't work: that's pretty much conservatives' M.O.

I would say taxes are the most reasonable way to do it, but there ARE other ways. ;)
bigspoon87 11 months ago 9
@bigspoon87 It's called freedom, get over it. If you don't like it, there are plenty of places in the world you can go that don't have the freedom we have in the US. You're free to go seek that out if you'd like.
fiveryanfrenzy 11 months ago
@fiveryanfrenzy Freedom, eh? What about the freedom to live my life without having to worry about being financially ruined if I have health problems? What about the freedom to have a job where a union ensures I'm treated with dignity and respect? What about the freedom from want and fear that Roosevelt spoke of? These freedoms shouldn't belong just to those who come out on top in a capitalist system. We all deserve some basic security, that requires an active government.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@bigspoon87 "Take it back?" Do you know how hard those 400 wealthy Americans worked for their money? Do you know how many people they employ with the money they make? Do you know what happens to those people when you, "take back," the money the wealthy earned? I am in the lower/middle class and even I understand how moronic your words are. Taking from people who earn the money and giving it to someone who does the bare minimum is now how you build a healthy work force in America.
Toredorm34 10 months ago
@Toredorm34 You really think those 400 people did more work and are more deserving of wealth than 155 million other Americans COMBINED? Or have they just managed to rig the system to their great advantage?
"Do you know how many people they employ with the money they make?"
As few as realistically possible, and preferably foreign workers who they can pay a pittance.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@Toredorm34 "Do you know what happens to those people when you, "take back," the money the wealthy earned?"
Uh, you get a more egalitarian society with less disparity of wealth and a bigger middle class, like post-New Deal America?

Then you truly are deluded. You think the wealthy aren't gaming the economic and political system in every way they possibly can for THEIR benefit? Yet you don't think average people should be fighting for THEIR interests?

Republican-neocons support the unsustainable warfare state, while the Democrats- liberals support the unsustainable welfare state. Republicans in power tend to support a fascist type of economy and Liberals tend to support a combination of both fascism and communism. Are you aware of the expense of just these 2 examples alone?. I blame Bush no more than I blame Clinton,Nixon,or Woodrow Wilson. The core problem is our monetary system. Thomas Jefferson opposed central banking and fiat currencies.
thinkertank1 1 year ago
@Onmetube Continued- Both of which we have, via the privately owned Federal Reserve. Read what Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers had to say about paper (fiat), money and central banks. These guys were not idiots, they studied thousands of years of human history and knew that all great empires collapsed when the currency failed. The U.S. is repeating this history. It started with the creation of the Fed, and both parties support the Fed system. Watch "Money as Debt"
thinkertank1 1 year ago
@Onmetube A true conservative is someone who supports and protects civil liberties, opposes nation building, opposes endless wars, opposes huge debts which can't be repaid, supports protecting the people with a strong national defense (which the constitution calls for), supports a sound currency (which is not subject to inflation), opposes huge unconstitututional social programs which we can't afford, supports States rights, a small central government, and individual freedom and liberty.

@ChinaRepublicans,
The repeal of the Glass-Steigall act was spearheaded and championed by the Clinton administration.

@ChinaRepublicans
The repealing of glass-steagall would not have happened without the penn stroke of a Democratic president. Just because some RINOS that worked for your side, as they do today, decided to flush the future of their country down the shitter by destroying the housing market doesn't mean you can rewrite history’s headline.
toddclemmer 11 months ago
@ChinaRepublicans Clinton still wielded veto power which makes him 50% culpable.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw I'm more interested in defending ideals than people. Glass Steagall was put in place under a progressive Democrat and repealed under a conservative Democrat by extremely conservative, corporatist Republicans. I think that's about accurate, no?
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles I would argue that Democrats are as much about special interests as Republicans. Corporations side with whomever the tide is shifting with. It was Republicans in 2004 and Democrats in 2008. To them each party is a color on a roulette table and if they play their money smartly they will always come out on top.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw I don't disagree that a lot of Dems are about special interests. Like I said, Clinton was a conservative Democrat. But as ChinaRepublicans pointed out, Republicans pushed more for repealing Glass Stegall. More Republicans voted for NAFTA than Democrats. Republicans blocked repeal of oil company subsidies, and they're trying to strip the EPA of power now so industry can pollute with impunity. Support progressive Democrats if you don't like corporate influence in politics.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles Simply because person A votes for a bill that is more conducive to business doesn't mean he/she was influenced by corporations. The connection to corporations may be correlating, but not a factor for causation. I also believe the assertion that the Repubs want corporations to "pollute with impunity" is a drastic hyperbole. That all being said, I hate both parties, and will continue to support Libertarianism.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Yes, it's just a lucky coincidence that GOP policy happens to be beneficial to big business AND all the major business groups like the Chamber of Commerce overwelmingly support them. Uh-huh.
And the EPA is currently the only avenue of regulating CO2 emissions; limiting their power like the GOP wants would let industry continue to emit CO2 with immunity.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw In fact, if you were paying attention, you would know this is a major sticking point with the budget negotiations going on now. Republicans insist on putting language in to curb the EPA. Just another example of who they work for, as if anymore evidence were needed.
But have fun being oh-so individualistic and non-conformist and being a libertarian and all that, while us serious-minded people continue to try to work realistically within the system to promote change.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles Don't understand why you become to hostile and dick-headed towards Libertarians. Libertarians are against corporate welfare as much as liberals. And being pro-free market is not synonymous with being pro-business. People are able to have personal convictions without being bribed to hold them. Thus, simply because I believe policy A is superior to policy B doesn't mean supporters of policy A "bought me off."
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw I'm hostile to libertarians (the word doesn't need to be capitalized, Mr. Grammar, unless one is referring to registered members of the Libertarian Party) because they're constantly braying about the Constitution and liberty as if they're the only ones who care about these things and their conceptions about them are the only ones that matter. They are the height of arrogance.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Libertarians think they're so clever, when there is NO historical precedent for their grand ideas about free markets and fundamentalist laissez faire economic EVER working. Quite the opposite. Look at the Gilded Age, where lack of government regulation and greedy big business combined to keep millions in poverty and wretched living and working conditions.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles Also, while not entirely relevant, this very much irks me. You wrote:
"Just another example of who they work for"
Proper English would read:
"Just another example of for whom they work."
"For" is a preposition and thus, is incapable of concluding a sentence. Additionally, this sentence is in the accusative case, and "who" is the subject, thus necessitating the usage of "whom."
Cheers!
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw You may be against corporate welfare, but a lack of a proactive, regulatory government ALWAYS leaves a power vacuum that big business will fill in a way that maximizes profits for them and screws everyone else.
Republicans aren't just pro-free market; they're total corporatists. There's no other reason to promote gutting the EPA, which attempts to address environmental problems business has always failed miserably at being responsible about.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Also, you might be interested to know that the idea that it's gramatically incorrect for a sentence to end with a preposition is just an obnoxious myth. Google the quote often attributed to Winston Churchill about prepositions ending sentences.
I can't keep up this argument because I'm way too busy. But do please challenge your views and try to read opinion from other sources, instead of getting caught up in the libertarian ideological bubble that so many do.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles Whether or not you choose to end the sentence in a preposition still leaves the matter of neglect with respect to the accusative case. Who must transform into whom.
I never said Republicans were pro-free markets. Indeed, they're quite the opposite, corporatist. They promote regulation, and intervention to aid business instead of allowing them to fail. Both parties equally distort markets in an ever futile effort to promote prosperity, albeit unsuccessfully.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Being completely for free markets IS corporatism. If corporations were worthy of being trusted and capable of being responsible in all matters, we wouldn't need Superfund, for example.
There should be intervention to save business occasionally. It would've been unfair to let U.S. automakers and the jobs they provide disappear when all of their global competitors are helped by their governments in numerous ways.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Libertarians spout fundamentalist dogma and naively think everything would somehow be better if big business just had a little more freedom to do whatever they want, when the deregulation they promote just allows ruthlessness and greed to prevail.
And who is big business to argue with libertarianism? After all, they fund all your think tanks, if they didn't start them to begin with (see Charles Koch and the Cato Institute). I'm sorry, but libertarians are massive tools.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles It's quite enjoyable to read your responses subliminally lined with arrogance, disdain, and pompousness. Free markets are not corporatist - they're nothing. Hundreds of corporations would line up to protest against a reversal into free markets because they would receive less benefits than they currently do. Just as welfare recipients would argue against cutting welfare, so too would corporations protest a reduction in protective regulation and corporate handouts.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Arrogance? You libertarians are the 5% who always want to tell everyone else they're completely misinformed.
But you didn't respond to most of my points. Tell me, if big business driven by free markets is so damn great, why did we have Love Canal, Enron, Three Mile Island, or any other number of catastrophes? Of course, I'm sure you have some way of blaming each of these things on government instead of irresponsible business that should've been more closely regulated.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles "You libertarians." Take a chill pill and calm down. I address you not as a representative with a title but merely as a human. The fact that you become so offended by every response and feel the need to pop off smug remarks really speaks volumes. I do not have a problem with episodes like Enron. As long as preferred stockholders, stockholders, then bond holders are compensated with what is left of the company, I do not care.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Kiss my ass. This libertarian shit was cute when you were bashing Bush along with everyone else, but now you're all just proving yourselves to be corporatist tools.
And estimates say investors in Enron lost anywhere from $60 to $80 billion dollars. You're really so willing to drink this free market koolaid that you're fine with that? Or are you just ignorant about how much of a clusterfuck Enron was?
johnmiles 10 months ago
Oh, and did I mention the Wall Street crash? Is it the fault of government regulations so many bankers were ruthless/incompetent? People arguing for free markets always end up enabling abuses by business.
You realize it's possible to support market intervention to prevent abuse rather than for the purpose of corporate welfare, right? I mean, that's traditionally been the liberal position. I understand why you might be confused though, what with all the corporatists in the Democratic party now
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw Also, to assert that Three Mile Island occurred because of "unrestrained free markets" or "a lack of regulation" is ABSURD. This is life, and mistakes and shit happens. Personally, I've been to the site of Chernobyl and can assure you that it was not a product of deregulation. The USSR was the epitome of regulation and bureaucracy. Sometimes bad things happen no matter what. Your liberal quest for utopia will never come to fruition, despite your delusions otherwise.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw It's absurd to suggest the Three Mile Island plant should've been more closely regulated? Really? France has far more nuclear plants and has never had such an incident.
And liberals aren't the ones thinking they can create a utopia, dipshit. Libertarians are the ones who blithely think deregulation solves every problem. I'm not saying government is perfect (certainly a poor, corrupt government like the USSR's wasn't), but it has an important role to play, just as business does.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw That libertarians continue to spout their laissez faire gospel in this day and age, after Enron, after WorldCom, after Lehman Brothers and AIG and the Wall Street crash in general, after the BP oil spill in the Gulf, after Tepco's mishandling of its nuclear plants in Japan (the ones they faked safety inspection records for), etc., etc., really proves their delusion.
Libertarianism is a political philosophy by and for big business, and its adherents are either rich or tools.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@johnmiles Firstly, I have to say: LOL UMAD? Clearly you're incapable of having a civilized discussion without resorting to name calling. Your thinking of "he disagrees with me, therefore he is a dipshit" is classic egotism. I went from actually enjoying the conversation to relishing the fact that you get so mad.
GRRR LIBERTARIANS MAKE ME SO BUTTHURT.
Go ahead and wrap the world in bubble wrap. Ban knives, regulate people's breathing patterns. You will NEVER eliminate suffering.
TacoEqualsFtw 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw You're whining about name calling, and then suggesting I'm the one who's butt hurt? Laughable. Politics gets contentious, dude. Grow some thick skin, stop whining about getting your feelings hurt, and argue the issues.
You're not a dipshit because you disagree with me; you're a dipshit for at least 10 other totally unrelated reasons.
johnmiles 10 months ago
@TacoEqualsFtw "You will NEVER eliminate suffering."
