Another problem is when Democrats move one step to the right to look more centered, the Republicans jump two steps right, then use re-framing, exaggerated labeling, and outright lying to make Dems look too far left. This is because Republicans get emboldened by seeing how well manipulation works, so they double or triple their next attempt to make Dems look too far to the left in order to keep them moving right.

What if when Repubs call Dems socialist, Dems call Repubs racist fascist Nazis?

Both parties are "framing" the debates, thus neither will never gain real progress because our socio-economic system is obsolete and corrupt. Even in this video the "framing" of your perceptions advocates fighting for a buzz word, which is redundant

Using Lakoff's analysis, the word "propaganda" invokes visions of Hitler, Goebbels, and Nazi Germany. Using the word "propaganda" invokes the vision of dictators, oppressors. Not a good "picture frame", eh!? We need a better word that will frame the idea of refuting what the right wing is saying without including the word "not" in the word. Remember - Nixon said he wasn't a crook. Which immediately "framed" him as a crook.

That's a very interesting point, sir. I assume that by sacred document you mean the Constitution. Well, as far as I know the sacred document is against the the kind of terror that you're threatening to use. And by the way: Since Barack Obama won the election, it seems to me that progressives were not mistaken after all. They actually did frame the debate, claimed the sacred document, and won.

There should be a much larger exemption for living expenses and only money in excess of that should be taxed. Noone earning under between 40-50k should pay any taxes at all because they need it all to live. Only spending money should be taxed.

Most corporations don't pay any taxes. I would probably count them as the rich! There is an article at ABC new called: "Most Companies in US Avoid Federal Income Taxes". Do a search on it. Don't believe everything rich people tell you. And certainly don't believe Rush Limbaugh, he lies all the time everyday.

I love Lakoff's analysis. Cognitive scientists are finally rediscovering what Carl Jung had discovered 100 years ago. The problem I have with Lakoff is he doesn't used the word propaganda. Conservatives succeed by using propaganda. You can't just say Democrats have to do better marketing, because the whole point of marketing is the method of propaganda that is intended to prevent thinking beyond slogans. If Democrats just present better slogans then they are buying into the conservative frame.

Just as virtually all other progressives do, Mr. Lakoff continously refers to RADICA RIGHT REACTIONARIES as "Conservatives." They are not conservative and it is time for us to Frame them with that reality.

He makes a great point here, that if you argue using the other person's language, you've already lost the argument. If you say your oponent is 'pro-life' then you  must be 'anti-life.' There are so many loaded terms: 'affirmative action' versus 'quotas' is another one, or 'suicide bomber' versus 'assassin' or 'territories' versus 'Israel.' I like the part where he says that putting the word 'not' in front doesn't negate the power of the words on the other side.
