21:47 - They might actually not be onboard. On my 2001 HP, there was a slot on the bottom but also one under the keyboard. The slot on the bottom, the pins wore out and if you could get the machine to boot up with memory in it, it would shut down or freeze or bluescreen soon after.
2:18 why not put in a mini pci-e tv tuner that works with the digital tv standard used in your part of the world, then install drivers, open windows media center and be happy that you can watch tv? I'm not sure if my HP tablet has an extra mini pci-e slot then i can watch tv or have 3g.
Was that Dell laptopthatyou showed a Latitude C600? I have a Dell laptop that looks just like that! The one I have is almost like mint. I'm trying to go ahead and make a video about it.
I'm posting this comment from a compaq presario 700. I maxed out the memory at 640MB, I put a 40GB HDD in it and I replaced the mini-pci modem with a wireless card, and I f*cking love this laptop, it just does what I need, and really well. It even has a multi-touch trackpad!(sort of, you can scroll with two fingers)
That is the same laptop that I had that got blown up . I am disabled as you know I could take all the parts from my old one and put them in that machine and I would have a great laptop again.
@bbishoppcm It was the first compaq cq60 in the video I have the exact laptop that was blown up by a power surge so I have all the parts except the mother board . I have charger power plug memory keyboard and any other part except mother board.
Thai is why I am asking for it . You would be helping a disabled VET out!
@bbishoppcm I was talking about the hp60 I have all the parts eve a 100 dollar extended battery I bought last summer I had saved for it over 6 months . I could take every thing off my blown up laptop and put it on the hp60 and I would have a great laptop again. I could even send you a AST rampage memory card with 2 meg ram on it.
That HP you showed at first looks a lot like my brother's laptop ,but his is older... I guess HP reused the case and just did a re-paint ,but I like that style myself so I'm not complaining.
A piece of advice: Don't ever confuse a HP charger with a Dell charger. They have the same plug, but different pinout. Dell charger and Dell laptop will be fried by connection to HP laptop or HP charger. Dell is using the middle pin for 3.3V EEPROM communication, while HP is using it for current sense which means it's basically connected to 19V on both sides.
@Gameboygenius Yes, you are correct. This is why Dell notebooks cannot be charged using aftermarket chargers, as they lack the ID chip. I ended up junking most of what you see in this video (the compaqs, and the acer), they simply were not worth any effort (terribly worn out, not preservation grade).
I have had 6 hp laptops in the last 4 years. They all broke because of the power connector. You would think HP would take care of that problem!! NO! They had to give me 6 new laptops!!! haha, don't they think that's a waste of money!?
I know you're not much of a Linux-head, but have you had a go with something like Puppy Linux? You could copy it to a flashdrive using Unetbootin and then move it between machines (if they can boot from USB). Handy for testing or even for web browsing/word processing on old machines.
@rhydermike I've experimented with a few distros of Linux, including a live cd version (I forget which), and even a live CD version for G3 macintoshes.
Computers from the around the time those Compaq's were produced, were practically indestructible. Well built, solid machines. Can't wait to see the future videos on these machines! :-)
Remember about the RAM timings! It will give it the BSOD if you use the incorrect type of RAM and RAM timings.

with puppy linux on those compaq 700's, you wont need a hard drive for they can run on just cd's.

The HP G60's all had battery recalls (mine included), that's probably why the battery was replaced.
