Hey, now, I said be nice - these are teachers who have gone out of their way to learn to play the oboe from an actual oboe player so that they can help their kids learn good habits. What is it that you do? Do you know how to play ALL the instruments like band directors have to do?

What B8oven222 is saying is that this is a serious problem. These people are now going to go on to teach kids oboe. At such a basic level how can they possibly hope to do this?! You cannot teach someone to play an instrument to beyond your own technical capabilities! Once they surpass you, they will be basically teaching themselves, making the whole process utterly pointless. Get individual instrument teachers like everyone else!

Students in our area have private lessons with oboe and bassoon teachers during weekly private lessons. The private lesson teachers come to the school & also help educate the band directors (employed by the school to teach band classes and homogenous beginner classes). The private lesson teacher helps band directors with verbiage, embouchure, fingerings, reeds, & all details about teaching & playing the instrument. How many instruments can you play virtuousically? Thought so.

@jenbsn Ah well that's ok, as long as there are private lessons to be had =) are they provided free by the schools?

Also - you thought that I played Violin, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Bass Guitar, Guitar, Harp, Piano, Organ, Harpsichord, Baroque Violin, Baroque Cello (and the one I don't usually mention - Recorders)? You must be psychic! =D

Thats inpresive. Do all band directors like the oboes because they are unique and sound awesome?
