i am IN LOVE with the speaker! nice voice, nice delivery, nice message! ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME we clean up our own mess, and for once stop leaving our trash to nature. Like we expect nature to do the sweeping for us. SHAME when all that nature has been doing for us all this time is provide us with our needs, water, food, shelter, etc. What a way to pay the favor back. The garbage patch.
I have made improvements myself in the past few years-with a lot of help from the government/council. I recycle a lot now as there are regular collection services, and recently some sort of tax has been introduced to supermarkets on the number of plastic bags they use-so they in turn are offering alternatives and incentives to re-use or bring your own bags (and canvas are stronger!)
There is something shitty about plastic compared to other materials...I don't know anyone that likes it like people like wood! This video made me think how man is just like a virus to the earth.
I like the book title "Redesigning the Future". With plastic, we've largely done that. It's especially poignant that a text written to outline overcoming societal problems becomes one itself as it is thrown away.
The biggest sin in this whole pollution issue is something few consider. Forget the animals and environment for a sec, what will people think of us in 50,100, 250 or 1000 years? If we were going to live forever then we would be poisoning our own future. The thing is, since we die relatively quickly (80ish years), we are poisoning someone else's that has no say in the matter.
I liked your view of future observers.I think even as it is happening now, and its right before us, humanity turns a blind eye to it. The stories from the divers that course the Gyre are most heartfelt. They all say , no matter how blue they imagined the ocean before, the sight of the Gyre, is the forefront. Thanks for your wise feedback as well!
That's a real eye opener Cooksterz. I can't help but feel what a disaster humanity is to this planet considering its relative debut as a global influence. Every other species exists in environmental equilibrium and yet, man continues to pillage and plunder with reckless abandon. Viewed from afar, a non-terrestrial observer would see the Earth under attack, resembling a viral borne plague devouring its host.
I hope that conservation efforts can preserve what our children will inherit.
You said it all. I can tell you feel as I do. Its sickening and maddening at the same time. The Aliens think we are disgusting pigs. Thats prolly why they abduct us.. LOL. Preserve what our children, or generations ahead, will be left with.
Outstanding video, very illuminating and informative, you don't just dwell on the problem you make it a point to offer concrete solutions. Bravo! 5*****
In a small way, we can all do something to help generations ahead. Even just teaching putting into practice the act of avoiding it. Thank you sir, glad to see youl be up tommorrow. I know youve got individual vids, and jokes,i need to catch up on! Willdo so this evening!
I spent just a day reading validated articles, and it is now cemented in my brain. The results are all there for us to see, and most scientists admit its too big to fish out. Thanks MBR
Im in agreement with that one Ken! I wish we could just outlaw it all together. It makes you angry when you purposely go to find it, drive behind a walmart, or anywhere near one and the environment suffers from a swath of plastic bags! Thanks
That just makes you forget the issue for a while. Using hemp produced products can help in a small way. You can also recycle your seeds. LOL :D Thanks for the view and comment
nah. It doesnt make you forget the issue. There are no issues. Everything's groovy. Everyone's gotta do the patriotic thing and just smoke that one spliff a day. The world will be a better place.
I clean up (and recycle) messes like that all the time. It's so much more than plastic. We own over five acres here, which include a creek connected to a city storm drain. After every rainstorm, the creek is not only filled with plastics, but also oil, paint, asphalt, metals, electronics (cell phones), pharmaceuticals, clothing (shoes), and paper. The dumping is very illegal in California, but it's still out of control. I am not optimistic when there are so many destructive people around.
It seems like the more i try to gather a few people to clear out areas, the more i see. Private Landowners really get the brunt of this trash. Some local law or ordinance somehow keeps walmart and others free from responsibility. I agree, its no longer just an issue, its an epidemic.
To be clear; There actually *is* a way to mass recycle plastic without having to have them split up in spesific types.
Until now plasic is either burned or dumped in a landfill...or indeed at sea.
I believe that in the next 10 years this plastic sea will be 'harvested' because it will become economically viable to do so (with or without environmental grants.)

There are less excuses NOT to recycle these days.
Great video.

Great vid Cookie. But saddening. Unfortunately humans, as a species, just don't care enough about the planet they live on.
Those Wallmarts and Lowes should be responsible for cleaning up those downwind garbage dumps.
Will have a look at the articles and vids you linked to.

but but but bottled water is sooo wonderful!
kidding, but that is part of the problem
for some odd reason this didn't show up on the subscription list, strange...
when we went shopping i saw two options for bags in the vege/fruit section
a regular plastic or biodegradable
maybe they'll do that with regular bags too
i'll admit that we could cut down on our plastic use
i always make sure we recycle as much as possible
this kind of stuff needs to seen on a regular basis to remind people

I think if every one just chipped in and did there bit by smoking just one joint a day, all these problems would disapear. Do the right thing.

care to elaborate on that?
i don't have anything against smoking weed
but how exactly is smoking it being patriotic?
Bean829 2 years ago
because each half joint you smoke makes children grow up well fed and clothed.
Each toke instantly kills a terorist threat.
The sipple action of even rolling one strengthens the economy. Its all a bit scientific.

Thats a great point. Recycling waste to energey will be a key to future plastic processing changes.

Yes, most small areas still have no option. Luckily a large city like this one, promotes and provides the service!
