Kevin made an effort to say goodbye, the assistant said he couldn't, Prince was being extremely nebulous about what he wanted and didn't respect Kevin's time or intelligence. And really, there isn't anything anybody could say that could hurt Prince in any tangible fashion.
That's Prince, he's just weird like that. We will disagree with people we like. Nobody's perfect. I think it's totally shitty that he spends a week there for free though. as an atheist i never had a problem with prince's religious beliefs in the 80's. in the 90's he seemed to become more spiritual. but the rainbow children album turned me off him. the songs were his best in years but the jehovas witness interludes were too much. but i guess someone who is so estranged from the real world needs something to believe in. something that in their mind keeps them on an even keel. how would any of us mere mortals deal with that sort of fame/money/unreality?

Prince is a genius! He is weird for sure but he is amazing. I just saw his show and it was the greatest thing I had ever seen! He did 2 amazing encores! and had an amazing set list! And about his vault, he once made a whole CD out of his vault music alone didnt need to write shit and it was only cause he was pissed off at his Warner Brothers.
It seems Prince makes music only for Prince. I know he turned down a Mult-million dollar deal with the creators of "Rock Band" for his music. He had Youtube take most of his videos off. He should be happy that his music is in demand. It's gonna get to a point where no one wants a Prince song.
If you ever tried to publish, get a record deal you will never understand why he has his music remove from youtube. Did the two have another meeting days later to call the documentary off or was that night actually the last time they ever saw each other? I have been a Prince fan for 29 years and I will always be a fan, but I understand that he is a complex and often misunderstood person (saying it in the best way I know how) and you really "normalized" what I'm sure was not a normal encounter with him. When the industry felt that something that Prince produced was commercial enough to market and capitalize on, he became a "pop" (popular) musician. Prince is a musician, period--a working musician. Most of Mozart's pieces were considered simple and playful in their day. However, not too many people would argue if you called them genius. It is called parsimony. as an atheist i never had a problem with prince's religious beliefs in the 80's. in the 90's he seemed to become more spiritual. but the rainbow children album turned me off him. the songs were his best in years but the jehovas witness interludes were too much. but i guess someone who is so estranged from the real world needs something to believe in. something that in their mind keeps them on an even keel. how would any of us mere mortals deal with that sort of fame/money/unreality?

Smith has his own life and was in the process of making movies and what have you, and according to kevin smith, he takes a week off from those duties, shoots some wacky documentary, gets denied the rights to use one of prince's songs in said movie, and when all is said and done, he receives the boot(or heel, haha) w/o evn a thanks

It seems Prince makes music only for Prince. I know he turned down a Mult-million dollar deal with the creators of "Rock Band" for his music. He had Youtube take most of his videos off. He should be happy that his music is in demand. It's gonna get to a point where no one wants a Prince song.

Did the two have another meeting days later to call the documentary off or was that night actually the last time they ever saw each other? Did Kevin actually left and never been heard from Prince again or did Prince dismissed him soon after?

I have been a Prince fan for 29 years and I will always be a fan, but I understand that he is a complex and often misunderstood person (saying it in the best way I know how) and you really "normalized" what I'm sure was not a normal encounter with him. It was funny and relatable, so thank you for recalling this in such a way that we had a glimpse into what must have been such a remarkable experience.

When the industry felt that something that Prince produced was commercial enough to market and capitalize on, he became a "pop" (popular) musician. Prince is a musician, period--a working musician. His talent cannot be limited to one category. Since 1978, he has produced at least one album per year (except when he produced double albums).

Most of Mozart's pieces were considered simple and playful in their day. However, not too many people would argue if you called them genius. It is called parsimony. Through exhaustive exploration, test and trial of available techniques you provide the simplest interpretation and presentation. Prince is a musical technician; a genius.

I usually agree but sometimes the person behind the music, or acting or writing, etc. is really a first class jerk. It's sort of a mixed bag, focusing too much on them as a person. But I see your point and tend to want the same. But case in point, I'm going to have a hard time watching Gibson movies anymore, and I used to enjoy them.

@TheJiggsCasey Yes, I am finally growing up and I am not speaking for you. It just makes wonder what people are behind closed doors. In Prince' case the more I hear about him, I am scared to know anymore about him.

Hahaha...yeah I know what you mean but...isn't it sort of horribly fascinating as well? You KNOW he's destined to end up on the Smoking Gun's mug shot collection or something and you can't help wondering when and how it'll happen.

@TheJiggsCasey Somehow, if you posted this on his website that I think he reads, he wouldn't be too happy with the word describing him as gnome. Well, it's better than calling him a runt. Those four letters pronounced together sound so belittling to call someone. 'You little runt'! Wow it sounds so mean. The pen is mightier than the sword! Ah, true...and I should be more careful. Not because of any repercussions but because I know it hurts to be called names. But on the other hand, I say it with a strange sort of fondness. It must've been hard for him being so short but to my eyes, it's a non-issue...I just tend to pester ideas and people I like. Even if they aren't quite all there.

@TheJiggsCasey He is a runt. In my mind before I knew the definition, I assumed it was a terrible word. A short person is a runt. I know women like him but if they got to know the true Prince behind closed doors, the relationship would not probably last long. They'd be fascinated with an image not the real person. He needs a puppet on a string. : -\

@TheJiggsCasey Some people are better off single. As long as he is famous with money, they'll put up with him for the attention. I'm sure he knows this fact. He just needs a level-headed woman that is confident and respects herself and knows when to say no to nonsense. : )

I believe he's either married or involved with a young lady who creates a lot of his choreography. *I* haven't found it yet, but there really is someone for everybody. All power to him I guess. Anyway, time to turn in, nice chatting with you. =)
