30 years ago, there was a revolution in Iran, the Shah was removed and Khomeini came to power. This was, at least it seemed, the government that the Iranians wanted. A generation or so later, some of those who fought/worked to install Khomeini are now some of the loudest voices of opposition.

It would be a very bad idea for the U.S. Government to intervene. We spent the better part of the last century destabilizing foreign governments. With bad results. Let's not repeat those mistakes.
