  • A showing of incredible courage. Any one who runs knows how much suffering he went through.

  • @SMHS28 No one knows what kind of suffering he went through. I have no problem admitting I've never pushed myself this hard. And I think if we're all honest, we don't either. Hats off to Haile, tough as nails this man.

  • 2 persons are faties who can't even run

  • 14 degrees? Wow that's cold, he must of wanted to run faster to keep warm lol. He's amazing, 5k record and Marathon record.

  • I'm at 18:26. I'll get a 12:38 next race lol.

  • My 5K is 19:18 and my mile is 5:10, now i watch this and their at 2000m at 5:05 I'm going to go run now.

  • and i thought 12:40 was good

  • I do this in 18:47 omw to get 12:36

  • Yeah... I run a 19:53 so...

  • why are you guys comparing your PRs to the world record. you're not even ethiopian, so don't bother comparing lol

  • i thought 16:32 was good.... :(

  • that is hollin ass! my pr for 2 miles is 12:42

  • I went from 25:10 to 19:18 during the cross country season. I felt good about that until now.

  • my pr is 20:41 so i have about 8 minutes to catch up to him

  • and i thought my 17:27 was good...

  • he looks like he hardly even broke a sweat.. absolutely ridiculous

  • @schmo137

YEah I know, Id probably drop dead if i ran even close to 15 and He just finishes the race and isnt even out of breath. Its insane..

  • im going to states in a week and i run a sub 19...... this guy,,, makes me feel bads lolol

  • Gebrselassie can set a world record in the 5000m and a marathon... Ridiculous!

  • I'm at a 17:11 and I though I was pretty good but holy shit what I'd give to run that fast

  • @waptrickin You'd have to give up eating and shoes for the majority of your life.

  • Wow... I was trying to break 18:00 for Soooo long an when I finally did with a 17:56 I was pumped. He just ran 12:39... Just... Wow.

  • I agree. i got 18:45, this guy is insane. how do you keep running like that with no one there to urge you on???

  • That is insane my 5k PR is just and 18:58.00

  • Haile run the last 6 laps on his own.

Talk about GRUELLING! Wow, so awesome!

  • @UltimateSnake LOL that's still pretty fast

  • Our sport is your sport's punishment.

  • was this filmed with a toaster?

  • what in the hell does this guy eat? corn fields?

  • The best part is when the announcers say that they don't think he's gonna do it. That's why you should never listen to anyone.

  • I'm not sure Bekele has this much heart its close

  • Does anyone know where I can watch Bekele's 5000 world record? I've searched youtube all up and down and the only vids I can find aren't enabled for the United States.

  • @ippyforeward I've been looking for that one myself. Anyone know where it's at?

  • "Even if he runs a 60 here he would need a 57 second final lap and I think that's beyond him"..... And then that's exactly what he does:) Total announcer ownage!

  • @ippyforeward I disagree. I thought the announcer did an incredible job, keeping the viewer up to date on the splits, putting forth the perfectly reasonable opinion that running the last mile in under 4 minutes might be beyond him and then being amazed that he did it. That's great annoucning, IMHO.

  • @a1b2i its hwo your supposed to run

  • Man, I struggle to run a single mile under 5 minutes. He runs two well under that and then one under 4. Greatest distance runner ever. He is the benchmark for all distance runners who come after him.

  • 12:39.36..

  • This is awesome. The announcer writes him off before the last lap changes the subject from WR to random chatter....and then well hmm looks like he is picking his pace up.....maybe he still has a chance...

  • i get 3900 in 12m, but this is sick!

  • You have to feel sorry for those guys who run a sub-14:00 5K and still get dead-last.

  • @THEEVANTHETOON not to mention they get lapped...

  • 57 second last lap? HOLY SHIT.

  • 4:05 mile on average, 3 times in a row. Day-um.

  • 3:59.39 last mile!

  • the commentators said there was no way he was going to get the WR, even with one lap to go. That just proves that A RACE IS NEVER OVER UNTIL IT IS OVER!!!

  • how is it the part 1 only has 66,700 views and part 2 has 200k+ views

  • The announcers counted him out when he had to run just under a sub 4 minute mile, but you know what? I would have too. Congrats to Haile, he is just amazing!

  • @Cmastamega you are dumb

  • @GymnasticsFriend yeah id have to agree

  • this is what i would like to be like in 10 years time, he is absolutely amazing!!!! :D

  • Uh......I run a 2 mile in 12....

  • @UItimatesnake lol me too me too

  • @UItimatesnake I run one in 11:59 :D

  • @UItimatesnake heh i run 10's in the 2 mile and this is still unthinkable for me.

  • A 57 at the end of all those 60's and 61's?? Crazy

  • @Cmastamega That would be great, except for one thing: the current world record is 12:37.35 by Kenenisa Bekele. 12:38.54 would be the 2nd fastest of all time.

  • This proves that anyone ahead of Haile is really just a pace setter!

  • Why does Haile poke the leader on the shoulder at 1:14? I would think that would be against the rules.

  • Oh, I suppose that guy dropped out soon after... just another pace setter?

  • That performance is just unbelievable. He makes me wanna go out on a track and do a few laps

  • his last 400 meters was insane

  • It is so inspiring and wonderful to see him at the height of his powers! He ran those last 6 laps or so all alone and had to make up time! Yes, 3:59 for the last mile? ASTONISHING! The greatest runner ever and a great man. I saw him in Boston indoors a few years ago when he ran the fastest 3000 on U.S. soil and I cried like a baby.

  • @Sapsuckerdude : Its that grimace that makes the whole thing inspiring

  • number 1

  • Holy shit! Talk about negative comentators.

  • Close to the peak of human physiology :)

  • Thumbs up if you hear I'm the Scatman in the background

  • I cried from 7:05 to 7:09, because he inspires me so much. He pushed through the pain that was evident on his face, and we all can too!

  • Pure determination

  • AN EXTRA ORDINARY HUMAN BEING! WOW! INSPIRATIONAL

  • SIMPLY THE BEST ATHLETE OF ALL TIME!

  • HEEEESSSS BACK!!! He came out of retirement. SHORTEST. RETIREMENT. EVER :D

  • The 5k WR is not beyond Haile G. Even here. 3:59.3 for the last 1600.

Belief is, however, far beyond Tim Hutchings.

  • damn, brought a tear to my eye.

  • Incredible.

  • The difference between the announcer and Geb is belief.

  • hes not even tired? wtf? run faster next time

  • great man. he did well on his journey

  • 12 MINUTES i run my in in 22-23:(

  • happy retirement

  • The announcers wrote him off with a mile to go but you can never count out GEB!!!!!

  • @PONYBOY430 It's Kilometers not miles! :)

  • anything is possible

  • my best is 18:34, sophmore in highschool

  • @xcAbe94

    how old are you??

  • @wilsonjungan 15, i've also met haile in real life i have a vid and pics if u wanna see. hmu

  • @xcAbe94

wow..with your age now..you already can clock this 18min...fantastic..my time also same with you...but my age is 21

  • @xcAbe94 thats awesome! mine is 22:19... I'm a sophomore varisty girll

  • @ilovemyrumor321 wow thats very good :D keep up good work

  • @xcAbe94 Thanks so much!!!

  • This is beyond inspirational. Despite the commentator (might be Seb Coe not sure) doubting him the entire time he did it. Just goes to show, that even the best have their skeptics and critics. I understand the announcer was just doing his job and it did seem unlikely at the time to run that fast for the last 3 laps but... 3:59.36 for the last 4 laps...whoa. And years later he's still putting up scary times in the Marathon...you're amazing Geb.

  • sorprendente maquina humana!

  • my record 5000 14:55

  • wooo my 5k is 20:40

  • i noticed back 1998 our flag look beautiful with out ant stars b shit ! love u Haile !

  • this video makes every cross country runner look horrable and is so inspirational.

  • This is a very inspirational video!!! It goes to show what you can accomplish if you put your all and all into it.

  • makes my 20:10 5k look like poo poo

  • 2:51

Geb just smokes the competition. Wow.

  • Wow. The first mile timed in at 4:05. Last mile is a sub-4? Jesus. Gebrselassie is incredible.

  • I absolutely *love* this video.

  • The King ! Gebre is awesome and a pure runner

  • Nurmi...Zatopek...Gebrselassie

  • 3:59:36 for the last mile. Come on. That's not fair! Best ever

  • what a finishing speed...

  • Imagine if his legs were longer! Combine longer legs with his current cadence and he would truly be unstoppable.

  • He already has long legs- long legs on a short body. Adding extra length would add extra mass, which would limit his cadence and acceleration.

  • @Chocosizzles He is unstoppable.

  • What else is there to say? Simply stunning.

  • he is my favorite runner of all time!

  • inspiring.

  • His courage is unbelieveable over the last mile!

  • he would lap me like 10 times

  • Wow! The greatest EPO legend of the golden EPO time!

    LOL

  • Viva Jos Hermens and his chemical lab!

    LOL

  • Fluid, bouncy, long strides, mind-numbing cadence, sheer strength and endurance, and pure heart. Haile, you rock.

  • haile is a god

  • haile is such a legend, the wr was supposedly outta his reach.....

  • Comment removed

  • If his last 1600 was 3:59.36, then his last mile was 4:00.9 or thereabouts...nevertheless!

  • Haile has so much heart!

  • WOW WOW WOW

Quite amazing no wonder he is considered the greatest runner ever.

  • thats insane. can anybody who holds the 5k record rite now?

  • @mexsicansk8ter Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia holds the 5,000 m world record with a 12:37.35, which he ran on May 31, 2004.

  • Today I "ran" (more like jogged) 2400 meters in 14 minutes 37 seconds... I almost faint...!!! It took me about 2 minutes to recover...

For this guy took a couple of breaths to recover... may be half of a breath.

  • @luisaspo how old are you? I'm 15 now....

I ran 1950m odd (I don't know the Metres, but it was 1.2 miles) in 7minutes... but to be honest, im not the best runner... im more of a sprinter...

  • haha to the British announcers who doubted him. LOSERS!

  • these guys are incredibley fast. my fastest time is a 19:39 as a freshman in high school and im positive when im a senior ill be running in 16s or 15s

  • His last 400 meter were faster then I can run a 400 meter. o.O

  • What a great run with Haile Gebrselassie his a very good runner in this world I hope you can compete this comming olympic and win a lot of golds;

  • wow 12:93 for 5km i do like 24min for 5km

  • Yep, some people are just amazing.

  • Holy shit he did a sub 4 minute Mile. after 4200M at that epic pace. class

  • @britishguy444 And I read those stories how the British media made such a deal about a sub 4 minute mile but this is taking it to the next level of course.

  • What was his last 400m split?

  • 12:39.36- 11:42.59=

    56.77

  • @Endorph1n- 57 or so

  • unbelievable....

  • Haile is a great runner and he will break the marathon world record again this year (i think).

  • nope he is getting very old!

  • Já fiz 14:57...Bala o carteiro voador...

  • A 57 second lap beyond Geb? Hah

  • sub4 mile to close a 5000!

  • @CTrotter21 este

  • @CTrotter21

Just shows how crap Bannister was! :)

  • @LightmanTruth fuck you. He was the first man in recorded history to break 4 in the mile. How is that crap? You're a fucking dumbshit.

  • I ran it on a track, go look it up bitch. dayton flyers cross country

  • @ryan9rapids is dayton flyers your school's name?

  • If at this time Bekele was running with Geb and was going to run the current WR of 12:37.35, what would Geb run?

  • who knows man, it would sure be a great race.

  • Geb would have probably out-sprinted Bekele. Bekele is amazing and I admire him for breaking Geb's record but you have to take into consideration Geb's position in this race. He was out there on his own, his pacemakers gave up on him very early and in addition, the commentators stated that the temperature wasn't that great. My bet goes to Geb, though it would be a close race.

  • @barchetta575m Bekele was on his own from 2000m out, so he was by himself for longer; splits for Bekele: 2:33-2:32-2:31-2:30-2:29.

  • i think he would beat me in 100m with that speed xD

  • i think he'd beat me in a 50 metre sprint with that speed haha!

  • "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows".

    You'll figure it out someday.

    I rest my case.

  • ok, i'm an idiot, but the problem is that you are too naive, to say the less.

we have a word here..." the thief that is not caught is an onest man"... so Bekele is an onest man, right?

  • @andreiwindstorm No, it is you who is being dishonest. You are accusing one of the best athletes of all time without a shred of proof. What drugs was Bekele using? How did you know? Did you check his blood samples? It seems the only "proof" you have is that Bekele looks "huge" to you, even though Bekele is a tiny, little man. Anyone who thinks like that must be an ant... a very noisy ant.

  • Bekeke is on drugs. His muscles are huge, not natural for a runner who does such heavy mileage. He reminds me of runners from Germany or Cehoslovakia from 25 years ago.

Haile instead i'm 95 % sure that isn't on drugs and never was, he is pure talent.......very, very rare, not only in athletics but in every sport. He got my respect.

  • @andreiwindstorm You are an idiot. Bekele on drugs? Care to name the "drugs?" Care to tell me what the IAAF/IOF did when you presented evidence that Bekele without a shadow of a doubt that Bekele used PEDs?

Bekele huge? Bekele weights 54kg, doofus. Get your facts right, or just do us all a favor and don't comment here ever again, okay?

  • this guy makes me proud to be Ethiopian, he's the reason i started running.

  • he must get well fuked off with them cunts always picking him up.

who wants to be picked up when you finish a race?

  • 4 min/mile on the last 1.6km is incredible. that was like what many athletes were not able to on a single mile distance back in the 60s. and he does it on a 5k... holy shit

  • This man is revered by many as one of the greatest distance runners of all time. It is hard to believe that he did all that when it seemed like a very hopeless attempt to take back his WR from Koman. He is one of the best the world will see for while.

  • He makes me believe!!

  • Look at the audience! You can see how crazy we still become when it's about long distance running

  • This guy Haile is my inspiration in sports

  • 5 kilometres = 3.10685596 miles

  • 3.125 miles

  • holy crap...that's all i can say

  • Oh my goodness. A ++ Mentally/Physically

  • OMG LAST MILE IN 3.59! thats running 4 Miles previously! OMFGGGG lol i strugle to do my first mile under 6 min...

  • no thats running 2 miles previously not 4 it's a 5k 3.1 miles

  • daniel Komen ran 2 miles in sub 4 also both great athletes

  • its only 3.106 miles bro.

  • you do realize that a 5000meter is about 3miles...

  • 5k = 3 miles

Which, mean he ran 2 miles before he ran that last mile not 4. Just a corrrection.

  • Yh thanks for the correction kinda gets irritating wen40++ people waan correct...

  • 5000M is 3 miles plus 200 meters.
