  • dude you are stupid to do this to good truck, do you no doing that it ruins the trans. and the engine. You kind of people just dont take care of things.

  • @chevyman1500ful thats what youtube is for, you get to watch other people mess their stuff up.

  • why do u have to diffrent rims on your truck

  • @F250custom4x4 Front ones: I bought some newer Chevy wheels to use for the summer. Back ones: I put on some crappy tires to burn up rather than ruining my good ones.

  • Thats crazy how yours dosnt wheel hop besides a tad at the beginning it looked like it wanted to but i installed a locker in mine and when i tested it it wanted to wheel hop

  • @wolf432 Guess I'm lucky...or have a different driveshaft angle than you do.

  • @98ChevyK1500Z71 Could also be since yours is a Z71 the differance in the shocks mines just a 1997 Chevy Silverado K1500 4x4 5.7L

  • Does the new axle have a 3.42 ratio as well? I recently found out all about this and my 98 4x4 has it, along with a 3.73 ratio.

  • @XTRFilms Yes, the new axle is 3.42. That's the only reason I was able to do the swap. With the wrong gears in it, I would have torn up the T-case.

  • What brand tonneau cover is that? Looks great

  • u can tell that u have the G80 if u look in your glove box sticker it should be on that i do beleave

  • @youdragon Yes, that is the easiest way IF you are buying an axle out of a truck and can check the glove box. I didn't have that code (G80) in my glove box which is the reason I put this axle in. I bought the axle when it was already out of the truck. The owner still had the body and said I could check it if I wanted too, but I said that wasn't necessary since he seemed like a trustworthy person (and had his kids with him in his truck).

  • i love 2 wheel burnouts!!

  • was it hard to swap in the locker? i have a 98 4x4 that i want to make a z71 becuase i have the sjid plates just need the rear end

  • @stanleytherat

The Z71 doesn't have a different rear end than the 4x4. Z71 got you skid plates, Bilstein shocks, and 265/75R16 tires VS the 245/75R16 that came on the 4x4. Even though my truck is a factory Z71, the G80 was still optional (and why I added it).

The swap is just like an axle swap. The most time consuming thing is the parking brake because you have to completely disassemble the both drum brakes in order to disconnect and then reconnect the cable on both axles.

    Good luck!!

  • do you still have the old rear end?

  • @zackschannel

Yes I do still have the old rear end. GU6, 3.42gears, open, drum-to-drum.

  • very nice

  • can i use a 03 silverado or 03 tahoe rear end

  • @1988tahoe yup but you gotta make sure to find a base model one that has drum brakes in the rear instead of disk because they came with both.. unless money isnt an issue then you get one with disk brakes and do a all dick brake conversion it really isnt that expensive actually but yes you can use one from a newer silverado or tahoe

  • does the g80 use a computer

  • No. All mechanical.

  • burnouts destroy g80's just to let you know but that was pretty cool!

  • @chevyman8329 I agree! I have a 1990 454 SS and I did not know my g80 would break if I kept toying around with it by doing burnouts and doughnuts. Now my locker is broken and I have a one tire fire going on! Driving in the snow sucks now!

  • @chevyman8329 no they dont.. it might eat a couple teeth off the spider gears but thats only if your always constantly burning out.. g-80s are built by eaton which is one of the best differential companys on the market!!

  • @natep246 g80s r a ticking time bomb i know because i have seen them blow to peices a lot . the locking mechanism is very weak, and that it wat breaks most times

  • @chevyman8329 funny that mines got 162,000 miles and never had any problems with it, it still locks up both fine with no issues what so ever... whats ever funnier my cousins 93 z71 is the same way an hes got 213,000 miles on it an it still locks two with no issues

  • @chevyman8329 and if your so smart an g-80's are so bad, tell me excatly whats weak about the locking mechanism? an tell me what excatly blows to peices and how?

  • @natep246 im not saying g80s r bad its just that they r not strong. if u get in a situation where the one wheel has no traction then accidentally give it too much throttle and the rear will blow if not u r just lucky.

  • @chevyman8329 wow most factory limited slips wont even break doing that.. what makes you think a g80 will? no offense but dont be talking diffs if you dont even know anything about them... an like i said it thats the case tell me excatly what will "blow" and how???

  • @natep246 a g80 is not a limited slip its a locker and factory limited slips will not get u through situations that a g80 can, when the g80 is under normal conditions its an open diff, but until one wheel spins to fast (u prob already know) but when open, the one wheel that slips, spins and locks the rear, but if u give it too much throttle, the locking mechanism cant handle the power and breaks, which it doesnt really "blow" but it will never lock again and the rear will make horrible sounds

  • @chevyman8329 no fuckin shit i know that... i said limited slips wont even break under those conditions yet alone a g80... can you not read? and your a moron you cant even tell me what breaks cause i bet you dont even know how a differential works... g80s will not break when alot of power in applied when its under pressure... thats the whole point of a locker smart one is to make sure power is applied to both wheels in difficult situations for optimum traction... morons i swear!!!!

  • @natep246 limited slips have half as many little pieces as a g80 does so there is a lot more that can break

  • @chevyman8329 yea but even limited slips are pretty mechanical sound.. usually if your burning out the tires will pop and blow before you eat out your differential.. now if you dont mind not replieing im tired of talking to a moron that doesnt know shit.. you cant even tell me how a differential works without probably looking it up

  • @natep246 ok. the power is sent to the pinion gear, which therefor turns the ring gear. in just a plain open rear, there r 4 spider gears that transfer power to both wheels in normal operation, but when you make a corner, the wheels have to differentiate and then the spider gears run-over each other so that the wheels can differentiate smoothly without the inner wheel hopping and skipping like when you have a spool or if you would weld the spiders gears(which rids of only one-wheel-burnouts.

  • @chevyman8329 its nice to know you can search that up on google... sense i copy an pasted what you said in google and basically word for word came up... what gave you away is the welding of spider gears... in limited slips you cant weld the gears only in open differentials... wow some people I'm telling you... get a life dude its okay if you would like to know about vehicles.. but dont try and show off on youtube when you dont even know truely how things work.. noones impressed

  • @natep246 Oh. you r exactly correct i totally just googled that whole thing up just to prove myself. and of coarse u r totally correct on how you searched MY wording and found the same thing. and yes u r correct u can't weld the spider gears on limited slips only open diffs. and no u r wrong i know a lot about vehicles. don't be jealous just because someone else knows what you think you know. jeeze. ppl r pretty ignorant these days ill tell ya.

  • @chevyman8329 yea sure you do.. okay your the champ because you google everything you know champ... im also ignorant champ... you can not weld gears on limited slips moron... but okay tell me excatly what you weld then champ? im not jealous i actually know cars... and yea google what you wrote it will come up... fuck i swear half the people on youtube these days are 16 year old know it alls but okay champ you know everything about cars and i dont champ

  • @natep246 you can weld clutch-type limited slips b/c the spider gears r exposed.

  • @chevyman8329 your a dumbass seriously why do you keep replieing....not sure how you would do that being its s clutch setup. there is no direct metal to metal contact of sufficient size and strength to weld up and stay together.. so 99.9% chance even if you find a good way to weld a limited slip it will break... so if you ask anyone who knows about differentials they will tell you the exact same fuckin thing... limited slips are not for welding the spiders gears together to make a lincoln locker

  • @natep246 u shouldnt weld any rear for that instance. just get a spool or a locker. detroit tru-tacs work real good tho for a limitd slip.

  • @chevyman8329 what about for people who offroad there rigs and don't have the money for a locker or spool or mini spool? lincoln lockers work great if you know how to weld

  • @natep246 hmmmm i didn't know lincolns had lockers?

  • @chevyman8329 haha that was so funny that just made me think of you as a complete digernate

  • @natep246 ?

  • @natep246 dude i hear u im argueing wit a guy that says the g80 is a posi diff.. yea its sad an im 17 i should be the one makin that mistake lol

  • @natep246 but welding the spider gears is pretty risky and u will prob breaks some pieces, just like when u push a g80 too much.

  • That's not bad. Thanks for the help

  • If you are interested in going with an entire axle swap, you can find one from 1988-1998. Just make sure that you get the same gear ratio as you had (this only matters if you have 4x4). You could probably get one from a 1999 or newer, but I'm just not sure. Good luck.

  • ok thanks for the help and information

  • I bought an entire rear axle from a 1994 for $150. The guy said it had been rebuilt and had 10,000 miles on it. Then I bought new wheel cylinders, spring kit, and U-bolts. I'm pretty sure the total was under $250. A friend helped me with the swap. The hardest part was rebuilding the breaks. If it weren't for that, it would have taken 1 day instead of 2.

  • how much was it to swap to the G80?
