Many other aurora sightings in the US last year were on October 24th, and I happened to miss out on the memo! Hoping to see them up here in MI March 9th.
@phillyoxx Read the description man. This is in Kansas. I live about 20mins northeast of this and we're under a major airway, what you see are mixtures of satellites and aircraft... maybe a comet or two. You can see comets everywhere when you're about 30mins away from civilization for sure. Best places for falling stars in my honest opinion is western Montana, Indian Caves in Nebraska, and St. George's Gorge in Utah coming from Arizona and Nevada.
Nice shot! Here in Iowa we had a 20-30min burst of intense activity. Then just the usual green arch. It's nice to see them again...It's been the longest stretch that I have not seen them in Iowa (about 3 years). Usually I will see them 5 to 6 times a year. As we approach the Solar Maxima in 12 we should be getting more frequent sightings.
Aurora Borealis is extremely rare this far south. But it's not unheard of. It just happened at the right time for many people to see it. It's nothing to be worried about, in fact, I wish I could have seen it here in Salt Lake City.
Isn't this pretty rare for as far south as KS? I lived in Topeka for most of my life and I think I saw the Northern Lights once when I was a kid. Does it mean the solar flares are more intense than normal or is it a combination of things. Great vid. Wasn't expecting anything near that spectacular.
@merhlin Yeah I'm guessing its getting more intense and farther down south.I've never seen these amazing thins, but seeing them in Kansas seems like things are changing fast.I thought It was only up north like in Canada and Alaska that get these things lol
@jcaronor1 Some folks are already awake, live safe and well in the concrete condos, tile roofing and very solid. Ironsoup.com building a safe haven for the future.

This is really scary because we all know only one of two things could have caused this. A) Global Warming or even worse,... B) Man-Bear Pig
