Santino was not a reasonable thinking character. But if he were in Michael's position he would have never had Fredo killed. He, I'm sure would have kicked his ass or smacked him good and called him an idiot but never would he have had him killed!

I think the reason that Sonny appeals to everyone is that he is far more "American" than Fredo or Michael (even Tom is more "Sicilian" than Sonny)...he comes across as "angry 1940's American guy" who just happens to be of Sicilian descent. Still my favorite character in the movie...he was all about family (would have NEVER had Fredo killed no matter how bad he screwed up!) and probably would have gotten snuffed out anyway later on. Modern times would have left him behind .....he was "old school"

@lordvoldemort578 ...he had a good heart, and even though he was impulsive, he had "street smarts" but unfortunately he was not forward thinking in his decisions (re: the Sollozzo meeting....."so why don't we just blast whoevers in the f**king car??").......he was not 'book smart' like his younger brother, and as the "game" got more complex, he would have got left behind.........(Hyman Roth and Johnny Ola would have snuffed him out in short order in the second movie.....)

True, he was predictably hot-tempered, but I love how he tried to protect his sister; it's the main reason I like Sonny. As much as I like Michael, he killed Carlo without giving a thought to Connie's well-being. Made me a little mad, even though I'm glad he was dead.

he was my favorite Godfathers character and I know its just the book/film but I am really sorry about him. Maybe little bit snapper, maybe little bit aggresive, hurried and heedless but he was still the oldest son of Godfather. Like a man he was hmmm big...bigger...the biggest :) and very flaming. he had a lot of mistake but he was not bad man.....it was just a job. And he loved his family...his father...his brothers and his little sister..... I really like him...

The Corleones would have been whacked.

Michael was smart and cunning. He bided his time and knew how to talk. Sonny was awfully predictable and always let his fiery temper get the better out of him. His enemies were all too aware of this and therefore easily lured him into this trap.
