Well now it is 2011 and the F-22 raptor jet is the most superior jet fighter in my opinion. They didn't even mention precision fighting air-to-air and air-to-groud combat. All they did was jammers, missile range(which has increased greatly in the F-22 and others) and SAMs. China has the best SAMs in the world today but ours can sill keep up a fight. It will take a while for them to surpass greatly.

This video is for pursuasion purposes, meant to sway politicians into continuing to fund our Air Force. This video is fairly old and doesnt point out the lack of C3I capabilities on the part of our "potential adversaries". Assets like Cobra Ball, Rivet Joint, and AWACS are something China and Russia has seemingly failed to appreciate. Not to mention Stealth + Jamming > ADA.
@Icarusdecending82 China and Russia and many nations have AWACS and have for decades. SAM's have advanced so far the last 20 years due to the Iraq invasion. I would hate to be a pilot now. Old days just sent a cruise missile to take out SAM's but SAM's can shot them as easy as stealth planes.
@6630mcdo Its true they have but they arent as capable as the E3B/C. The Mainstay (Russian AWACS) has a design flaw that doesn't allow the radar to see aft of the aircraft (because of the high wing tail). The engines also don't produce the wattage that the Sentry's do. You'd like to think our stealth aircraft are easily destroyed but you don't take into account our electronic attack capabilities (jamming and ARM's) also the fixed radar sites would be targeted by SLCM's.
@Icarusdecending82 Most Russian missiles have anti-jamming systems. There's always a chance for the AA system to fail, but stealth planes and even anti-radar missiles have a range of 60km. SAM has a 400km range and connected to all radars. missiles can go 3-12 mach. US is still stronger. Russia is getting stronger fast.

India has been procuring Su-30s since 1996. The first batch of 40-50 was broken into sub-batches of 10 each and was mainly the Su-27UB trainers with no canards or thrust vectoring. Subsequently all of them have been converted into Su-30MKIs. It was decided that a total of 190 Su-30MKIs would be built by HAL at an average of 10/year. In 2004, it was decided that the average would have to be increased to 20 so as to complete by 2014 or 16 latest. That would leave India with 240 units.

well, actually they do(like any other plane). like any other software, it is subject to bugs and glitches and flight control systems are no exception.
i do not mean to detract any plane what so ever, being an aviation enthusiast, but these things happen so that accidents are less likely to happen. ofc, you may have heard about the F-22 crash just this year.
just given the amount of maintenance hours devoted on the F-22 gives people reason to speculate.

Well now it is 2011 and the F-22 raptor jet is the most superior jet fighter in my opinion. They didn't even mention precision fighting air-to-air and air-to-groud combat. All they did was jammers, missile range(which has increased greatly in the F-22 and others) and SAMs. China has the best SAMs in the world today but ours can sill keep up a fight. It will take a while for them to surpass greatly.

It does not say the USA is nr 2. at the moment... But one thing they forget is that the Backbone of the future USAF lies in F-22 and F-35 at (187 and 2443 aircraft). the plans of PAK-FA for russia is only 200 for russia and 200 for India. only 60 is aquirred as test so far. the Su-35 is only purchased at numbers around 50 - 60...

This video is for pursuasion purposes, meant to sway politicians into continuing to fund our Air Force. This video is fairly old and doesnt point out the lack of C3I capabilities on the part of our "potential adversaries". Assets like Cobra Ball, Rivet Joint, and AWACS are something China and Russia has seemingly failed to appreciate. Not to mention Stealth + Jamming > ADA.

@6630mcdo Its true they have but they arent as capable as the E3B/C. The Mainstay (Russian AWACS) has a design flaw that doesn't allow the radar to see aft of the aircraft (because of the high wing tail). The engines also don't produce the wattage that the Sentry's do. You'd like to think our stealth aircraft are easily destroyed but you don't take into account our electronic attack capabilities (jamming and ARM's) also the fixed radar sites would be targeted by SLCM's.

@Icarusdecending82 Most Russian missiles have anti-jamming systems. There's always a chance for the AA system to fail, but stealth planes and even anti-radar missiles have a range of 60km. SAM has a 400km range and connected to all radars. missiles can go 3-12 mach. US is still stronger. Russia is getting stronger fast.

"MaggotBrain" - the SU-30MKI engine are the AL-31F. the IAF still stated their are serious recurring problems with the SU-30MKI, possibly due to the high rate of failures in that engine (India Express 2003) from FOD, where india was reported to refuse a batch of SU-30MKI's. each engine instead of having the 700 hours flying times, only had an avg of 300 hours. again the colonel clearly states this as an issue.

Coming to Mig-29s, India operates close to 70 and all of them are operational.
About your Red Flag 2008 misinformation, the Indian contingent didnt have a single Mig-29 in them. I dont know where you or your news source could spot one!

About the Red Flag post-mortem, only one red faced Colonel went on with his cowboy antics while the official USAF stand was that this was the Colonels own personal views. The Indians chose to shut their mouths and not engage in a verbal duel with no end or a meaning to it.

India has been procuring Su-30s since 1996. The first batch of 40-50 was broken into sub-batches of 10 each and was mainly the Su-27UB trainers with no canards or thrust vectoring. Subsequently all of them have been converted into Su-30MKIs. It was decided that a total of 190 Su-30MKIs would be built by HAL at an average of 10/year. In 2004, it was decided that the average would have to be increased to 20 so as to complete by 2014 or 16 latest. That would leave India with 240 units.

Algeria returned all their Mig-29's, as unfit for purpose and India, a once constantly purchaser of Russia jets, has now decided to ask the west to bid for the first time, to the annoyance of Russia. just look at the refitted russia a/c carrier indoa has paid over the top for, started in 2004 to be delivered in 2012 - FOR A REFIT.

delays happen even for F-35's. as for India, it has its right to open up a bidding being a neutral nation. Besides, they already have a wide variety of imported arsenal from various arms exporting nations. As for a refitted ship, it all boils down to costs. It would save them more money refitting an existing hull with modernized equipment than a fresh one. come to think of it, those are damn expensive investments for a country whose enemy is just next door.

"saintkatanalegacy" - the delay to the F35 is rumoured to be a weight issue, plus another rumour, equipment upgrades with new capabilities. yes, india has the right to chose who supplies its future offensive a/c. recently HAL, india's a/c manu working with Russia on the PAK-FA, has questioned the value of the arrangement as Russia has still not shared its tech despite India paying for a great deal of the party. many believe thats why india is looking to the west for its toys.

"saintkatanalegacy" - as to the percentage of F22's in active service, you could be correct but its not from any underlying technical problems. the training of pilots is far more intensive than for other jets and acceptance of each a/c takes longer. but thats not to say issues have not been found from systems failures.

well, actually they do(like any other plane). like any other software, it is subject to bugs and glitches and flight control systems are no exception.
i do not mean to detract any plane what so ever, being an aviation enthusiast, but these things happen so that accidents are less likely to happen. ofc, you may have heard about the F-22 crash just this year.
just given the amount of maintenance hours devoted on the F-22 gives people reason to speculate.

ah, that would be the F/A-XX as a replacement for the F/A-18. interesting enough, they had to compete a single seater of each firm against a UCAV version of the same air frame.
well, the purpose of most russian equipments are often overlooked as their emphasis on practicality is quite high. well, ofc they may not have the same level of electronics as its western counterpart but the engineering aspect is quite superior. like how AMRAAM is compared to R-27 and AIM-9X to the R-77.
