Verdi, Puccini or Mozart? Sorry sirmercutio99, but the vast majority of people in metro-Atlanta believe musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber are highbrow classical music and that Rodgers' and Hammerstein's Oklahoma is avant garde! We have to give the Atlanta Ballet and Opera Company credit for at least trying.
I did. I thought it was great. I've never been a huge fan of Baroque opera but the performance was wonderful and David Daniels sung beautiful especially the "Che faro senza Euridice?" They were going to do Handel's Orlando and I hope the decide to do it. Kinda sad that there only doing 3 operas next year. The Atlanta opera has made some big improvements since moving to CEPAC.
Oh good, I'm glad you were able to see it. That was a lot of work. Some people thought more dancers were hired because of all the choreography, but that was us, and probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Very intense show, lost 10 pounds! Yes, three operas but hopefully the following year back to four. I think that the improvesments will continue as we have turned a corner.
Thanks Brentadam for posting this. I saw it on the fridaynight performance. I rank it as one of my best experiences. The music is wonderful. I know alot of people didn't like it cause of the music but I thought it was wonderful.

Was really refering to ATL Opera patrons but yeah your right. Also the ASO is great. I wish I could move to a city with better arts.

I was including the opera patrons in my comment too, sirmercutio99. Most of them probably think Webber's "Phantom" is high opera!

Did anyone get to see Orfeo & Euridice by Gluck? We thought it was on the edge as far as a classical opera can be pushed.

There is very little culture in Atlanta, which is why this work played at Emory, where most people are from other parts of the country.
