The singer is Tex Beneke, one of the greatest vocalists of the 30's and 40's. He also sat in with Benny Goodman, Kay Kaiser and other top bands of that time. His voice was one of the greatest ever recorded, and he can be seen singing and acting in certain movies of the era.
@MrRedwolfe69 - Agree with the comments of another YT-er. This singer was Ray Eberle, who was the greatest singer the Glenn Miller Band ever had. Tex was good, no question about that, but Ray was the best band singer in history, next to Al Bowlly a decade earlier.
@MrRedwolfe69 I've got this version and while the liner notes don't say who's singing, I do agree it's not Tex. Doesn't even sound like him. I'm positive that the others are right and it's Ray Eberle. Tex is playing the tenor sax on this recording, however.
This reminds me of my grandmother, she and I always listened to this type music together - this is one of my favourites. Even though she's passed, it still feels like she's here whenever I close my eyes and listen to Glenn.
It's a great song. I heard it many times from Dads records. It's no wonder we won WW2 with such great songs, to help the GI's remember a better time at home and better times to come. Thank you Dad for your service .
This was one of 3 songs that Glenn Miller had in the top 10 on December 7,1941.The Ames Brothers also did a version of this song. This was the #1 song during The Battle of The Coral Sea
The original recording of ''Moonlight Cocktail'' by Glenn Miller with Ray Eberle on the vocal, hit no. 1 on the charts the fourth week of February 1942 -- and stayed in the no. 1 position for ten consecutive weeks (until the first week of May in that historical year of WWII 1942).
@1776freak Let me guess -- you were born between the fourth week of February and the first week in May 1942. (But I cheated -- I work at Public Radio WorldWide whose database records contain a complete index of all the number one songs during the big band swinging years (swing-era) from 1935-1955 based on record sales and juke box plays.)
Great call...love Glen Miller-but the slower tunes such as this gem are my favorites...'Moonlight Serenade' being the best of all...take care and God bless! :)
I'm pretty sure the vocalists here are the Modernaires. They performed with Glenn Miller for a while.

@MrRedwolfe69 You have very good taste in music, but the lead in this song is Ray Eberlie. Although Tex does do the great tenor sax solo.

Marvellous to see from previous comments that music such as this is still appreciated. What a wonderful era the 30s and early 40s were for music.
It's a shame that we don't have that today apart from occasional good songs. These are the exception now - they seem to thave been the rule back then.
Interested to see that 17 Feb 1942 was a cold day. Here in Australia it's usually about our hottest weather.
