I'll remove my comment in the event it was overly judgmental (it may have been) but either way, the worst possible place for an addict is 'out drinking'. If his friends and family are encouraging the non-sober lifestyle, then he has a serious friend and family problem. I'm not speaking from a high horse. I'm speaking as someone who has fought with some of the same demons.
