He sure as hell did. Made me feel sorry for the boy almost immediately. After all of that violence and crap he lived through, his end was the one I didn't see coming at all. Just lying down and dying in peace like that (I thought he was going to end up like Onishi and all the others by going down in blood). This ending made me cry, and very few anime do that.
This is probably the closest we will get to a Sopranos anime. so matter-of-fact in its portrayal of these characters. We don't know much about them, and yet we know everything. This is real tragedy. People that call this anime "pointless" because it callously throws away these characters after building them up would also have to call Hamlet pointless for the same reason.
This is wonderful song. This was a great anime. I love it so much. But the ending is sooo saddddd. :( I cryed so bad. I was least hoping for something good to happen. But it is true can humanity change? love the song.
Beautiful song and ending and awesome anime! Ichise is like the last dude on that underground city. After I graduate from university for film, I'm seriously going to make this anime into a movie.
@TheEinstienian if you do you gotta keep this song....and the same singer if you can get her....and please don't use green screen all throughout it....it would cheapen the feel of the humaniity of all the characters....good luck....i wish you the best...
But everything before that in my opinion was great. The scene in the elevator where the blonde girl is shot by Kuon...I watched it few months ago and dont really remember it clearly now, but I know it was very powerful.
@CamperCz I agree with you, very beautiful ending, endings like this, in my opinion, are the most powerful and easily the most meaningful. And to all those that don't like the ending, grow up *spoiler ahead* just because it was a sad ending that does not make it a bad ending.
Is it bad that you capture life through a different lense and understand what isn't noticed; and furthermore see what isn't there to want a song like this played when you die?
I'm in love with the entire soundtrack both music only music and man of men.
I write a lot, but didn't get quite into the series but intrigued to give it another try.
I love this song souly because of all the influence it gave me and continues to get me to write looking through the lense of the camera spectator of life
I've seen the first an dsecond episodes... and heard the 2 OST... the ending is just beautiful though... and I cried too when I first heard this song... that has become one of my favorite songs...
One of *THE* best endings to any anime I've seen. It sucker-punches you in the gut and at the same time, is so poignant and as everyone else said, beautiful that it makes Texhnolyze as a whole emotionally riveting.
They could've so easily copped out on it and they didn't. I'm glad they didn't and also gave Ichise the only peaceful end after everything went straight to hell.
"let me sail on through this morning, open arms, to greet the Empty Ages"
favorite line of the song.

Ergo PRoxy, Kurozuka, Death Note, Wolfs Rain...all the endings were extraordinary.
Yet this one is definitely the single most beautiful one...Even though everyone dies.

Kurozuka...? really?

Oh yeah, i really liked it. It was kinda like this ending and I think equally tragic.

I don't quite understand why, didn't it all turn out to be a dream?

Oh, youre right. Completely forgot about that.

But yes, the end was disappointing.

I wasn't impressed with the anime overall but the ending with the song kind of redeemed it. It was sad but beautiful in the same time.
