I remember this song : from a long time ago: I haven't heard this song in OVER twenty years: I always liked the song but never knew WHO sang it. I had to be a baby to five years old when it was on the radio. If people aren't interested MAYBE they just didn't know the guy existed. I found this channel when i looked up your song by him Thank you! I thought of this song the other day: but I thought someone else sang it. But when I heard the song: I knew he was the original recording artist!!!!!

@flashbell there is...but some would rather listen to johnny and charlie (mcclane (sp) and Hank sr. than most of the "stuff" they call country these days. As they say - GREAT memories. I also miss Sammi Smith from Garland TX, and "Dotsey" on which I can not find any songs or biography. May have been a One-Hit-Wonder, but I recall liking her music.

Johnny has a heck of a voice. I love his ballads and the ones he's recorded with the gal singers. Did he do "Hickory Holler Tramp"? I heard that on an album several years ago but wasn't sure if it was him. Thank you for posting. - Paula

Hickory Holler Tramp was O.C.Smith song but I also have it by Merle Haggard, Bobby Bare and even Johnny Russell. I don't mind any of the versions.

@livingadream2 this song was always one of my favorite country songs. He had a mellow voice that was so well suited to country music. idl love to know what happened to him. Johnny duncan and janie frickie recorded some of the best duets of the 70s

Thanks Joan. I'm not sure who the first country singer was who recorded this. My cousin said it came out around 1979 when he first heard it. Our best country music radio station here doesn't always tell the names of singers they play so when I heard it a few years ago I didn't know who it was. It wasn't OC Smith as I watched his version just now. I do love Merle so if you have his version that would be great to hear. Thanks again. - Paula
