  • i go to the movies for the FX, i could care less about story....go read a book if that is what your into...

  • From what I remember, quite a few people brought up the Dances with Wolves comparison when it came out, even people who liked the movie. Personally, it wasn't so much a rip-off of any singular film as it was just yet another version of this particular theme and story arc. All the films that've covered that same subject area are more or less interchangeable with each other.

  • A little fun trivia. James Cameron got the idea for Avatar after watching Disney's Pocahontas.

  • The movie is stupid in my opinion. Its overrated and it bored me to death.

  • Excellent review although I must disagree about your opinion on if it should be picture of the year. In my opinion it should have won instead of the hurt locker although both movies were executed perfectly. Avatar had a deeper meaning although it was a repeat of dances with wolves.

  • Star Wars and Jurassic Park were original though lol

  • I hate Avatar. I hate it's unoriginal cartoony cg environments. I hate its bland plot. I hate it's bland characters. I hate it's uninspired musical score. I hate it's preachy message. I hate it's unoriginal technology. If you want to see a real science fiction movie watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. Nothing was inspired about this film. The visual effects were not great. They look fake.

  • Right Avatar is a rip-off of Dances With Wolves because Dances With Wolves is about a paraplegic ex-marine that space travels to another planet, mind links with a synthetically grown avatar, falls in love with a blue alien and leads a rebellion against an energy corporation over a hundred years in the future. Give James Cameron a fucking break people, he made an excellent picture.

  • @SolidSnake032486

Guy goes into a native species to gain the trust so the big evil military can gain info. The guy falls for one of the natives and fights for the natives against the big bad evil military. The basic plot and message is the same we have seen plenty of times before very little originality to it.

  • I thought Avatar was a lot like Pocahontas.

  • This movie was more than just a remake of another movie it actually had a deep meaning. Humans continue to destroy what we should try to connect to. Our earth it is alive and because of money and greed we are destroying it all over the world. Yeah there are very few good story plots left, but this was used very well and I think that we need more movies that capture how we as humans treat things and people as invaluable. If you did not get this from the movie you need to watch it again!

  • awesome review.

  • Why people hated this movie is not because of the story line (no that is just an excuse). The reason they hated it was because they watched the movie the same way as how they watch every other movie. Instead of watching as if it was a video game/book. People who watch movies a lot hated this movie, while people who only go see a movie 2-3 times a year liked the movie. True story.

  • @Streambeta soo you're saying thaht people who have a big "movie culture" hate it? well... :P I rather listenning to those who watch a lot of movie and have i lot of knowledge than the other :P

But anyway I'm not agree, me and my friend we watch a loooooot of movies during the year. easily 15 a year and my friend lovedd it and can't stop talking about it but me I hate it.

It's just a matter of taste a guess, what you like about movie and what you hate etc

  • ,,I know you never asked for a comment, but I feel I must,...excellent review-you took the words right out of my mouth!;}...content was great.

  • It has changed filmmaking forever, at least from a special f/x and 3d point of view.

  • Everyone Avatar was a good movie, stop being haters for the sake of being haters.

This was an entertaining film that was well thought out by one of the greatest directors of our time. So to summarize, I liked it, that's my opinion, and please don't be jerks about it, you are free to have your own opinions as well.

  • @RadioBull watch it once, at the very least. it's worth it.

  • Dont diss this film. The visuals are amazing and its entertaining. Yes, Plot isnt original, Nor is the dialogue impressive. but come on? cant people enjoy a fucking movie anymore?

  • IMO, amazing direction, amazing effects, amazing 3D, serviceable plot, serviceable/cringeworthy dialogue.

Worth seeing on the big screen simply for the world. And the story is no worse but rather better than any of the other bullsh*t coming out of hollywood. Plus, despite its obvious similarity to movies like pocahontas and dances with wolves, it's still an original screenplay not based on preexisting material which is also worthy of recognition.

I say see it and stop being pretentious.

  • dude what is important in movie is a story not a 3d, go to 3d ride if u like 3d, its sux, that is terrible movie

  • FINALLY, I'm glad u and I can relate on the overrate opinions that this movie is getting. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely enjoyed Avatar, but I could stop seeing the unoriginality and predicable themes aside from the action & visual effects in this film. Another film reviewer FilmMasterReviews said that District 9 was overrated & Avatar was better, when it is actually the other way around. I respect his film reviews, but after he said this I had to intervene, that is totally not true.

  • u want an amazing experience play uncharted 2 n heavy rain

  • hey fag did u get the messge u retard

  • This movie is like a Pocahontas remake (even though in my opinion this is one of the best movies ever made) i can admit that lol

  • well put. my main concern is why everyone is so damn critical about the PLOTLINE. COME ON PEOPLE. if you think about every movie that you've ever seen you can agree that they all, based on genre, have the SAME underlying theme and story to it. the main point of films is to convey that SAME THEME in a different more spectacular way. i mean, how many freaking stories are there to tell?? We're only human beings in boring average lives!

  • I applaud you, sir!

  • Want a film that looks absolutley gorgeous and flawless? Fellini's AMARCORD!

  • Avatar did something that NO other movie has ever done for me up to date, and that is the fact that it immersed me into the movie and the world. Whenever I finish watching a movie, it's like eh... dinner time. When I finished watching avatar, I felt like jake sully (the main character). As he quoted, 'everything is backwards now'. It's like out there was the real world and here in my house was the dream, that's how I felt. I don't know how james cameron did it but I've never felt like this

  • @woodyfly i know what you are talking about people say it was overrated well i went to see it first day they probly went to see it when it was out for 4 months and the news was talking about how much money it made honestly i could give two shits about how much money it made i just loved that it transported you to a new world and that is something movies lack nowadays

  • What is dances with wolves?

  • @Ryanmiller70 Basically Avatar except on Earth and with Red Indians instead of Aliens. It won 7 oscars including best picture and best director.

  • It was also similar to Atlantis: The Lost Empire

    :*(

  • And the aliens in this movie called what? Nabi? they are just like native Americans but have freaking blue skin and big shiny nose. and they are just fucking tall and have the thinnest body Ive ever seen! must be thinner than any other skinnies in the world! those are so called Aliens?? James Cameron has no fucking real idea about aliens. should have learned from Steven Spielberg!

  • Avatar has the most dumb motherfucking original story already used in Dances with wolves and the Last Samurai and many others smilar. the story is just fucking boring that makes u just get fucking bored.

  • Everyone who likes to hate on this movie says "Well if you take away the effects, it sucks." Thats like saying "Well if you take away what make's it good, it sucks." Well obviously! What's wrong with effects anyway? Avatar is typical science fiction that tells a simple and familiar story in an undeniably awe-inspiring world. If it had original characters and plot as well it would have been to strange for anyone to go along with. Yes, thats how closed minded people are, and you know it.

  • comedys like 40 year old virgin NEVER get nominated. avatar got nominated.

i walked out of avatar wowed aswell but go see it again? i almost walked out it was so boring the 2nd time.

This was an almost perfect review.

avatar = dances with wolves, pochohontas, last samurai

great movie but i dont think its should have been favourited to win BP as you said. should have been just between hurt locker or district 9 i think

  • Very nice review friend. I loved your pros and cons!

  • I don't think Avatar is a good movie. The reason is that you could make a better movie with cheaper special effects. So, if James was able to spend all that time and money on the effects, why not spend just as much on the story? I felt insulted. Like the visuals were supposed to keep me from noticing the weak plot. I'm sorry, but I have been made hype-proof thanks to "The Phantom Menace".

  • people don't realise how hard it was to make this movie. The 3d is FENOMENAL, the story is meh, as a movie it's meh, as a demoreel it is CRAZY good

  • i agree to it is similar to DwW o wait no i dont it is similar and DwW is WAY LONGER

  • good movie. amazing review. you make an excellent point when you brought up the 40 year old virgin.

  • Come check out my channel where i've uploaded avatar 2 update

  • great review!

  • well at least fast and furious was semi entertaining which is more than i can say for avatar

  • avatar is the most overhyped, overrated movie I've ever seen.

  • @emonerd826 yes it really is....i dont even know why it was nominated for Best Picture!!!!!!!!!

  • @theglassechoe Maybe because it was and is a good movie and that you don't know shit about movies.

  • @TheKray11 REALLY!!!!!! You say i dont know shit about movies?!?!?!?!?!? kid you need to STFU and open your eyes! Avatar is not a good movie and to even consider it a good movie is an insult to cinema. yes the effects were good.... but on a story telling basis is was shit! So why dont you think before you type the letters you DICKBAG!!!!!!!

  • @emonerd826 lol you clearly have never seen the overhype for Paranormal Activity!!!!!!

  • @emonerd826 its also the greatest thing since casablanca (not saying its better)

  • @CrazeKillen Avatar is a complete piece of shit. The only thing that saves it from being a horrible film is the mind blowing special effects. Yes it is a visual masterpiece, but that's all. The story is bland, cliche and boring as fuck, the characters are stupid, and many things don't make sense. You want an action movie, see Die Hard, you want an amazing movie, see The Godfather, but if you just want a bland movie with some shiny colours and 3D, then go see Avatar. Fuck you James Cameron.

  • @TheCarlsonsRaiders john.. when you first saw this movie you were amazed at the entirity of the movie too! you say the plot line is :dancing with wolves" but im pretty sure dancing with woflvs had nothing to do with an alien species on another planet trying to save their home from humans that were minning "unobtanium" and also.. the characters where fucking awesome.. ribisi made the movie... great actor.. and that navi chick.. koolest most bad ass personever!!! die hard.. is shit to avatar!

  • @CrazeKillen Dances with wolves is about a man who is captured by the enemies he hates, and then in the end he learns to love and fights for them, which is what Avatar does but with aliens. Also the characters in Avatar were bland as fuck, Ribisi was alright, but everybody else blew. Die Hard has good characters, a good plot, good action and Bruce fucking Willis, none of which Avashit has.

  • @CrazeKillen Did you just say what i think you said??????? You said that James Cameron's "Avatar" is the greatest thing to happen to cinema since "Casablanca"??? One of the greatest movies in American Cinema history?!?!?!? Really? Your comparing "Avatar" to "Casablanca"?? Please tell me your joking!!!!!

  • @theglassechoe its the best movie made in the past 15 years hands down.

  • @CrazeKillen No its not!!!! There are so many movies better than this one!!! If its so good why didnt it win Best Picture???????????

  • @emonerd826 and your videos are the most pointless, crappy videos I've ever seen.

  • @emonerd826 F U

  • Avatar set a new bar for Sci-fi films period O

  • I feel sad for people who say AVATAR is a visually beautiful film and can't appreciate how visually stunning films like SEVEN SAMURAI.

  • @ScorseseKubrick seriously... as much as u love seven samurai.. it was a long time ago..yes i saw it, yes i loved it. but im not stuck in time warp only appreciating "it". we're stepping into new dimensions of film making. Its like saying clothes go out of style but learning from our past. evolution, survival of the fittest, out with the old in with the new. yada yada.. so dont feel sad. be glad you're take part in witnessing the current film making generation.

  • @whyeff21 Good point about keeping up with trends and coo-ing over old movies you wouldn't get 25 cence for in a second hand DVD store. However at the same time as MovieBlogTV said- movies get rehased because Hollywood runs out of ideas. Fast and Furious was a poor mans Point Break- Avatar was like the last Samurai- Last Samurai was like Dnaces with wolves and D.W.W was the last Shogan etc

  • @whyeff21 yeah but this new dimension you talk about does NOT make it better!!, these over the top cgi movies is both thier biggest flaw and thier biggest appeal, yeah they look fantastic but they lack that human touch! they lack REAL life!!,

  • I still do not get the entire "Dances with Wolves" thing. I get the idea that they are both about a guy whom goes off and falls in love with the natives etc etc. But that's been done in so many movies even before Dances, that it seems funny we keep giving it credit as the first that invented the idea. And that is exactly where the similarity ends. Hmm, let's see "savages", forbidden love, epic battle.....did Dances have twelve foot blue people with built in ethernet connections? I can't recall.

  • I like your review. Some of these reviews on youtube are full of negativity. usually by people who think they are smarter then they actually are. I personally dont care if it is a rip off of anything. Important fact is if its entertaining and worth spending money for. Keep in mind productions aim for profit by a high ratio of an overall audience, and it does just that. Kids want to see this movie too.

  • I think this movie is the best movie ever made so far, until Clash of the Titans comes out, we'll see.

  • 2:16 you should watch Dances with Wolves again so you can do a fairer analogy. The woman in Dances was not betrothed to anyone. She was a white woman raised in an Indian village. There are similarities in broad strokes but that is it. Other wise good review!!

  • Am I the only one who found this movie way too long? As beautiful and visually impressive as it was, it felt looooooong. The first 100 minutes were great but then it seemed to drag on for freakin' ever.

  • @iamboy1234, sure, you may think it's way to long; just saying. But have you seen Peter Jackson's KING KONG? Now that's an long movie.

  • @warriorknight2000 long, yes but atleast worth it. no drawn out speeches.

  • @warriorknight2000 long, yes but atleast worth it. no drawn out speeches.

  • i loved the comparison with the visual effects and jokes in comedies...ive been trying to explain in such a way to people the importance of the effects and till now i couldnt get through to them....u nailed it dude

  • i wouldn't know about dances with wolves . never seen that, didn't want to. i don't like kevin costner movies much. excluding Mr brooks, The untouchables..

    avatar was good IMO

  • he wrote the script in 94. There is no way he "came up with the world first and find a movie copy".

  • Rank Title Worldwide Box Office

    1. Avatar (2009) $2,550,560,068

    2. Titanic (1997) $1,835,300,000

    3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) $1,129,219,252

    4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) $1,060,332,628

  • i feel sorry for the morons who saw pirates movies and lord of the rings .. and titanic

  • @BRm2008, are you saying there bad? Cause they are not!

  • @warriorknight2000 yes they are. boring and lame and not even in 3-D. pfft whats the point?

  • Where did you get this information?

  • You should see Dances with Wolves. It's a great film, I've seen it in school a couple of times.

  • i agree with you it is similar to dances with wolves

  • Movies is about entertainment! I have so much fun watching it. It's nothing like dances with wolves ok. Yah similar story who care but there's scenes that dances with wolves don't have and are instense. Compare all you want avatar is freaking original.

  • Avatar is visually stunning, no doubt, but the story was incredibly unoriginal, the dialague is cheesy at times, and other than Zoe Salanda, the acting was mediocre.

  • I think it was a fair review - Avatar is a visual experience. Storywise, actingwise - not so good.

IF you are someone looking for a visual experience then go see Avatar in a movie theater in 3D. But if you want a good Sci-Fi story with good acting and characters you care for, then see District 9.

  • @konman001 Avatar is fast food for the brain. It is a good kids movie but not exactly oscar material.

  • Avatar is way too overrated. Yeah, the graphics were good but everything else about it sucked. I agree with just about everything you said. Avatar never diserved its golden globe!

You said every movie has its flaws. Name some flaws in Shawshank Redemption or The Godfather.

    Great review!

  • Who cares if its a rip off it was amazing and it makes you have all emotions and i just fell in love with it.

  • What kindof emotions could some blue aliens give you? just asking

  • I like Avatar its spectacular cinema, story let it down. Imagine if he'd made it hard core gritty ...now that would be a movie to remember!!!

  • i have never seen Dances with wolf . and no i never seen Avater but reminds you nother does mean thats it is and real not big not deal the poitn is that like you it

  • good review

  • Type in "stache500" on Youtube and click on "Avatar Review" to see my review!

(Though it's not as good as this guy's)

  • Great movie and great 3 d and I definitely felt like this was an indian type of movie when I was watching this and never thought about it being a dances with wolves rip off because I was so caught up in the movie and effects but after watching this I really can see exactly what you are talking about. Rip off or not. Really good movie

  • goin to see it tomorrow with my gf, IN 3D!!!!!! i hope it is as epic as everyone says it is :D

  • I'm sorry but people are taking this "Avatar is AUTOMATICALLY a bad film because it rips off Pocahontas" thing a way too far.

Disney's The Lion King was a rip-off of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, but nobody complained about that.

  • damn right - l love the film regardless of it's origin in pocahontas

  • In truth, it's a technological demonstration, though it should be noted that the technology being demonstrated isn't solely the 3D or CGI. There's a lot of things going on behind the scenes. Now that that's out of the way, when Avatar 2 comes out (and it's already confirmed, assuming you don't know) they can focus more heavily on the story because Pandora is already pre-constructed and saved on a bunch of hard drives. This allows more time to be dedicated to the script.

  • @TNSFE I like your comment about the amazing world that they constructed in the first part (pandora, and the navis nation, etc.) that cuz it's already saved in the studios and computers from part 1, that will save them time to focus on the story board and the plot.

My opinion the movie was>> Amazing visual effects, Great Sound effects (both above the average), great ideas in the story,, naiti (the girl's acting was good),, BUT the plot wasn't so good,n i expected better dialogue.

  • @TNSFE And I also think that for a movie that would be rated number 1 for weeks in the world box office (domestic + international) then it worhs to have more n more strong characters, stars and heroes in the movie,,, Sigorney Weaver was great,, they need guys like her.

  • @TNSFE So bottom line to what i think:

    1. Not the best movie I watched ever, but still outstanding.

    2. Amazing clarity of the image (HD), amazing visual world, amazing visual effects, and amazing 3D effects.

    3. Great surround sound effects (also outstanding)

    4. BUT >> the plot and the storyboard needed some improvement.

  • This movie is very similar to The Last Samurai". The plots are the same. Man joins army, man gets captured by enemy, man joins enemy, army attacks enemy, and man betrays army to fight for the so-called "enemy".

  • it was a take-off on pocahontas

  • Dude, ever hear the phrase, "pick it green"? To sum it up - story line is a poorer version of Dances with Wolves, visual effects are amazing. Got it!

  • avatar is the #1 best movie...literally

  • Name one movie plot line/concept that hasn't been done before that would sell as well. I'm tired of people complaining about "AVATAR'S STORY WASN"T ORIGINAL!".

There are no new stories that sell as blockbusters, only classic ones set in different places with different characters and a drop of creativity.

  • @The SkepticalArtist

    "Memento" by Christopher Nolan

  • It's a classic revenge story. The fact that the main character has short term memory loss and the story is basically told backwards is what makes it stand out or "original"

They took the solid, classic plot of "guy seeks revenge" and made it their own by giving the main character memory problems.

  • it sold well because of the advertizing campaign. like u said, it isn't any different than most new movies..the art of originality and substance is long gone..u see it once in a while, but rarely..people wanna be uwwed and ahhed. they don't want their minds probed, and their perceptions challenged...they want mediocrity coupled with state of the art special effects..art in cinema is slowly disappearing..it's already practically gone.

  • @TheSkepticalArtist yeah cause if all new movies would have a license on their story and wouldn't let anyone else use it... todays movies would suck, if it even would be any

  • 1. Not a rip off, it's similar to DwW.

    2. The dialogue in the corporate enclave is crap; all 'say' and no 'show'. Otherwise it was ok...at best.

What wowed me was not the visuals...although they are wowsome.

It was the underlying narrative which I took to be about our world today - the conflict between the psychopathic corporate military-industrilal complex and our living biosphere Earth. That conflict is the story of modern humans and the most crucial story in human development yet.

  • i dont agree with your comparison of visuals to jokes. It is true that in a visual movie like avatar visuals are essential, however the "wow" factor is more from how new this 3d immersive stuff is then how good the visuals actually are.

Once you get past this new "experience" the movie doesn't hold up at all. the satire felt forced, plot turns are obvious from a mile away. i wish there was more showing and not telling. you would think with a 3 hour movie they could afford less exposition.

  • If anyone can tell me a movie that was hyped and did not disappoint someone.

When was the last time that anyone actual watched dances with wolves?

Can some actual state why it is like Dancing with wolves instead of just saying its like it.

I like the way he does his review though, he is very fair 5 stars

    ohh yeah it won

  • I do not want to see avatar, like you said the storyline is sooo cliche. I (no joke) could tell people the plot of it, and get it completely right, after i saw the previews. It doesnt even look that "beautiful", whats the point of pretty pictures w/o meaning behind them? its like Cameron is marketing a giant, shiny picture book to us. I despise it

  • @IIIJJJthePanda

Yes save your money for a better movie

  • @IIIJJJthePanda

Just wondering. Does making clames about avatar make you feel good inside even though you have not seen the movie.

The only satisfaction you get out of life is to be surprised constantly? It is not about what the plot is but, how it is presented.

  • @IIIJJJthePanda you are right... i saw this today only because i had seen all the other great movies of 2009 (inglourious basterds, up in the air, precious, an education, the hurt locker, and district 9) and i wanted to see what "masterpiece" could beat them... the script is very poorly written with constant cliched lines and not very interesting conversations... if ur easily won over by effects then by all means see it, but it is not a great film by any circumstances

  • you are a retard-baby

  • its as simple as this,

most of the cinema going people a f**king clowns

look how many people went to see mama mia

    r that harry potter s**t

  • im srry but avatar was create 15 years ago

that was the time when most movies all had the same basic story line

  • it's about time somebody said this movie was written 15 years ago because it was

  • thx. no joke movies that try to have a realy brand new story dont do so good but movies with the similar story lines are always the bomb

  • i dont see why other than the visual effects, why it was a good movie. aliens, terminator, and true lies are his best movies but not avatar.

  • maybe i should just turn of the sound because the story to me ended up pretty lame outsider Hero with a dragon saves the day

  • The special effects are really amazing.

Avatar showcased new visual powers; I just hope someone will someday use them to make a cool movie.

  • Look n00bs, the point of going to a film is not to be an asshole, nit-picking throughout the whole of it so you can come on here and rant. The point is to be entertained. The film succeeded at that immensely. Yes its cliche, yes it was TOTALLY predictable, yes its theme has been done to death, yes it required a total suspension of disbelief. I could create a list a mile long of everything I would have done differently with this film but the point was I left feeling like I was highly entertained.

  • great movie,, whats with the jurassic park sound effects on some of the animals though,,, wtf?

  • lol but it won the golden globe!

  • 4:50 watched it today and I told my wife the exact same thing.Character animation was flawless to a point of actually making me think they were alive;smoke, flames and particle animations *really* on a believable level.

Aside from that it was a mashup of Warcraft with Starcraft and Pocahontas... with the weakest plot I've ever seen on a big sci-fi movie.

  • And Avatar will easily win best picture of the year, although "film of the year" does not do Avatar justice. It clearly is the film of the decade, perhaps even film of the entire length of the industrial revolution. Avatar just surpassed Citizen Kane as my # 1 all time best film.

  • I disagree. Dances w/ Wolves dealt w/ the history of the annihilation of Native Americans & their way of life. Avatar deals w/ the entire current economic and political system, which is why I'm surprised that Cameron got the funding. Avatar's message was unique in stating that exponential economic growth can't go on forever in a finite world. It clearly sends the message of who really has the political power in America (corporations), and yes, Pandora represents Iraq, Afghanistan, & the rest...

  • fuck you the story is not a rip off

  • was it beter then transformers 1 and 2

  • the thing about dances with wolvs you remember it! this is going down as a classic it's not the destination it's the journey in this movie the journey was amazing

  • hhhmmmm........looks like evrone is too shy or embarrased to say anything bad about this movie...-_____- meeep

  • My man ! Awsome review. A positive and real approach to how most people did feel. This isn't a shakespearian play, it's a movie which is ment to fit the visual experience. You hit it bang on. An EPIC entertainment value for sure. definitely atleast an 8.5 out of 10 for Avatar and a 10out of 10 for this review.

  • its not really a rip-off of dancing with wolves since james cameron had this story idea before dancing with wolves came out,

but i like it better, very good story line and amazing cg effects

  • haha i always thought it was a rip off of dances with wolves, but i loved this movie

  • Even without the special effects and the 3D, I can come up with 100 reasons as to why I like this film.

  • The story was a bit deriavitive and cliched, but the visuals, the world of Pandora, and the action is just fantastic. The film isn't perfect, but I REALLY enjoyed it. It blew me away.

  • my argument against the cliches is that at some point we are going to have all the bases covered in past movies and originality will be ni on impossible to achieve.

everything else in the review is as solid as plasteel. when i watched it (which was without I-MAX or 3D) it screwed with my perception of reality. i thought for quite long moments in the film that had somehow physically done this and had to remind myself its only a movie.

thanks for the review. cant wait for the Blu-ray release!

  • talking bout wow i watched it 3 times just to see all the detail of the movie to make sure nothin was missed. i love this movie and would rate it best film. i'm not one to be impressed so much by a film but avatar went to a new level with me. hell if avatars like that was real id be first up to get one but other than that this is a good film and this is my opinion.

  • Nobody can convince me this movie didn't shred, i watched it on a 18meter wide cinema screen in 3D and it was AMAZING, great, great movie! one of the best i have ever seen, if not the best

  • best review yet. and i've seen a LOT of them

  • i think it should win "best picture" ...

its the first time that a movie has amazed me so much...

  • easily the greatest movie I've ever seen

I can't wait for a movie to finally pass up those Titanic assholes that movie sucked balls

  • both movies were made by james cameron if u didnt know "youhavemetyourmaker" both titanic and avatar...the two highest grossing films in the world were made by james cameron

  • Titanic also had some week dialog.

  • I agree for the most part, but I think you should reconsider your stance on the narrative. There are a LOT of very subtle things that make the narrative that much richer that the average Joe isn't going to catch. If you look and listen a bit closer, you'll find them. There were wonderful homages to Native American, African, and even Maori culture. Since we haven't learned our lesson about exploiting native peoples in our world, I don't see Avatar as cliched at all. It's actually a welcome story.

  • good film but the story i thought was just like The Last Samurai with certain elements from The Matrix, Tarzan, and Star Wars.

As far as the technology it was good but seriously it isn't break through, King Kong could compare just as well or even gollum in the Lord of the Rings its pretty much the same tech.

  • The craftsmanship displayed by the technical quality of the movie was astonishing while the story was clicheed and, in the end, cowardly executed. Cameron pretty much got rid of the whole premise he had established in the scripment and with the properties of "Unobtanium", and instead of an intriguing and demanding moral tale we got Pocahontas without most of the singing...

  • very good review :)

  • No no no, I would say the Matrix was the movie that change filmaking.
