  • sounds soumetimes like he is saying "do the butter bean" lol :-)

  • Loved these guys and I never knew the lead singer was American till a few minutes ago when I looked up the band on Wikipedia. I thought of them as being as thoroughly English as you can get.

  • How cool, I remember stamping my feet to this song at the local disco

  • Great stuff, natural heirs to early Dexys, what happened to them?

  • @KinnieMagic You had a similar childhood to me except that I had a Chopper.

  • this was the first record i bought as a kid

  • What happend to them anyone know please let me know.Thankyou

  • I've been keeping the faith and doing the boxer beat for the last 25 years.....Not much to report on... Anyone fancy coming to relieve me?

  • dig it

  • fuck me did you see the size of that guy's ipod ?

  • Is that a skint Mick Hutnell in the background :-D

  • I remember liking this but can't imagine why now.

I was at an age where stamping my feet to music seemed really cool I think.

  • When you compare the fashion of today - trackies.hoodies.baseball caps --- no imagination and don't get me started on the muzak- Cowell you ponce

  • Effin great,eh? LOL. Love the song - all of a sudden I'm a baby again in the 80s xxxx

  • What a song, what a look what a decade. THE EIGHTIES BRILLIANT I MISS IT ,-)

  • watched these guys in a rugby/football club in cronulla ,australia in 83 , i had just moved out there ! the best years of music ever !! i got wrecked and slept in back of my dads van , threw up ! how ace! still do now at 51 x

  • Everyone in this video is dressed straight off a market stall, makes the modern day over styled, insincere crap look like a ridiculous waste of money. If there is any link between music and fashion it should be to clothing you can make yourself. Awesome song.

  • @terrortorn they were completely styled, probably wearing westwood, it was the eighties...the "designer" decade.

  • @SuperSimonuk Doc Martins, workmen's trousers, belt n braces, tank tops, flat caps, I think there is even a donkey jacket in there. Working man couture. No Westwood here.

  • @terrortorn you should check out the buffalo collection by westwood, most of what we called street fashion back then was derivative of westwoods collections.

  • @SuperSimonuk The Boxer boys used to run a second hand clothes stall to make ends meet while performing on the side and hail Dexys as a major influence on their music and image. My Grandad used to wear working boots, tank tops, braces and a flat cap. His street urchin look was inspired by the mines, Vivienne Westwood couldn't take much credit. Sometimes designers take a look out of the window just like everyone else and create something more flamboyant.

  • @terrortorn There were a lot of designers at that started out that way, westwood if you look at what she did it was a template for a lot of other designers, and the market thing was popular, especially in the eighties in camden, people like wayne hemmingway started red or dead on a market stall

  • should have been a lot bigger than they were, loved em

  • lalalalalalal lalalalalla lalalalal lalalalala yeah pure mint music xx

  • Love this it's such a simple song but very catchy.. oh to be back in the 80's . Wot fun we had..

  • one of those songs that makes want to run up and down the street screaming at the top of your voice.

dancing is rubbish - swing arms like chicken wings, swing hands above head. repeat

  • one of those songs that makes want to run up and down the street screaming at the top of your voice

  • wiffs of village people HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • love this, had it stuck in my head just... had to repost to FB :)

  • lead singer looks like a young denzil washington lol

  • I saw them on Saturday Super Store, doing the hit or miss. ZZTop, Sharp Dressed Man. 3 Father Chritsmas'es 'Rubbish we're better than them, never get any where' or something very much like it. Still a good to hear it again.

  • I loved the 80's the best time of my life... Not like now when I listen to the music now it is painful it is so manufactured. When I was in radio I played alot of 80's music and some that never made it onto the radio back then. I am glad to havae experienced all that the 80's had to offer... I think part of me is still in that time....

  • All those young guys will be in their early 50s now. Life's short!!

  • BOXER BEAT BOXER BEAT BOXXEEEEERRR BEEAAATTT

  • this was the first record i ever bought, boxerbeat was the bollox, beat, beat, boxerbeat, boxerbeat, u cant beat these lyrics, boxerbeat, beat,BEAT

  • The 80s was a great time for music - but honestly, this is one of those records that's best left in the far corner of the attic.

  • CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Songs like this make me so happy I grew up through the 1980's - sure the 80's had some problems, but I didn't care as I was a kid listening to some of the best music, watching the coolest TV shows, fun movies and playing on the family ZX Spectrum or riding my Raleigh Grifter around streets that were much safer...nowadays the youngsters have to put up with far worse...

  • Comment removed

  • @KinnieMagic that description sent me on a mega nostalgia trip! The Grifter - what a tank of a bike!

  • @Autopsy6

It sure was an awesome bike, I was able to out-run kids on their BMX's, great days!!!

  • @KinnieMagic i couldnt of put it better :)

it was the greatest decade EVER................

  • @KinnieMagic You just summed up my childhood throught he 80's

  • dig it

  • Fantastic - how I miss the 80s

  • i remeber dancing to this at springfield youth club on a friday night , i downloaded it on my iphone last nite , still all these years on its still fab

  • Yeah that was British

  • Always was insanely catchy.

  • That looks like Menzies Pie & Mash shop! Ahhhhh The 80's - Tracking down the Warehouse party's, what a fun time that was!

  • still doin it

  • It looks like this was shot in the pie and mash shop in Chapel Market in Islington , can anyone confirm ????

  • @assistantto007 92-94 Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell. It closed as this cafe, Re-opened as 'Quality chop house' then closed again

  • @assistantto007 that look lime Menzies Pie & Mash shop, East London, it's still there and has got old fitting still intact.

  • Awesome song, never forgot it.

  • This is when Music was Fun ;) Money came last to these lads, sure of it!

  • jo bloody boxers,i have had this tune in and out of my head since it was made, you know,i will be doing something and the jo boxers will pop up in my bloody brain.......thankyou jo boxers for a total barmy song...love it.....

  • wow, i so remember this

  • I love these guys! I had the album but lost it. Anyone have it on cd??

  • Are you on glue? The eighties was a decade of bad fashion and mostly very very bad music.Rose tinted glasses and all that

  • Strangely similar video to Don't Try to Stop It by Roman Holliday which I have just watched.

  • Saw this back in 1983 supporting Madness, bloody good live !!

  • vid reminds me of a gay dexys. whatever happend to joboxers?

  • @TenderFucking get a life you p...k

  • what a musical decade

  • I got goose bumps when I found this ... I am on a fricking roll now 80s style.. DID WE HAVE THE BEST TIMES THEN OR WHAT

  • @LadyMacalla - I lived through the 80s and it sucked. Spandex rock, New Romantics and utter nonsense like this? I can't tell you how much drugs and alcohol I've had to take to erase most of the 80s from my brain. :P

  • Love this tune ! Classic 80's :)

  • Was the video shot in the pie and mash shop at Chapel market?...

  • is it me or he reminds of denzel washington at 0:27 lol

  • A song written by a Postman from Twickenham - classic 80's!

  • It's Manze's on Tower Bridge Road!! Even now you get queues of people waiting for their pie and mash. I always assumed Dexys had this lot kidnapped and turned into sausages. They were such fun. I loved the lead singer. and the one with all the hair over his eyes.

  • yep 80's was the time for all the retro groups to do their thing.dig wayne was cool then.he used to go to club something else.does anyone remember that club????or the surprise pub in farringdon road.this is the sad bit but i was doingthis in the 70's with the same attitude.anyone care to share cos i got loads of pics of famous people then and before.CLUBSOMETHING ELSE.come on then lets who remembers.good luck.

  • THIS IS ALRITE, BUT JUST GOT LUCKY KILLS THIS

  • the 80's - Pod's FU jeans, Bournmouth at Easter, mark 2 escort - and we survived the cold war.

We christened the dog 'russell the muscle' when they were first around - still seems to fit now.

  • The first half of the 80s was the best era for music, or perhaps it was for me..

Ive just got to say this " IM ONLY 40 AND I LIKE THIS MUSIC"

  • @26highstreet What do you mean only 40. This was your era. I am 29 and I remember the 80s very well. I am a child of the 80s, but grew up during the 90s.

  • @Lj9219 Yea fair point but you would not have been old enough to have remembered this when it came out

  • love this tune n u cnt beat tthe 80s hands down ....... whos with me ?

  • Just got lucky was better

  • Wonder what happened to the fat ole lady in the vid.....

    Dead I suppose :'o(

  • oï oï oï, what did we live for ... oï oï oï ...

  • so these in the early 80s supporting madness ,top group.

  • As bad today as it was back then but nostalgic all the same. Boy I hate getting old.

  • Awesome 80's record - Miss those days!

  • oh your so right, ladymacalla, this is sooo good,80s rule!!!!!

  • Was bouncing round the kitchen to this today.......and I'm 40!!! Takes me right back, proud to be an 80s teen!!!!

  • rikki - you sound like your parents! :)

  • c6green. I had the single on square 7" picture disc and the sleeve matched the record. I sold mine at a record fare and got £750:00 for it. I've still got a copy of the black round 7" version though.

  • I agree 1000% with gary3640. Get me back to the 80's. I'd give up my mobile, my PC the lot to go back then. The music was better than this crap we have to listen to and bands in those days had talent and were not manufactured by the likes of X factor judges etc etc.

  • @rikki200547 Well then, you might not know Esser, Delphic and Primal Scream then? Definitely NO CRAP, man!!!

  • Love vids from the 80s not a fuckin trackie or bb cap in sight take me back right now

  • School days forme thanx

  • JoBoxers are so cool and I like the drum solo in this song.

  • Poncy clothes, but great song LOL

  • great tune - did they have any other hits ?

  • Just got Lucky...

  • god havent heard this in a while thanks for putting it on

  • my feet hurt lol

  • The 80's was the era you had to have LIVED to know and experience the buzz it still produces today..........no other time era can compete with the 80's

  • @LadyMacalla totally agree with you it was the best

  • @LadyMacalla amen to that

  • @LadyMacalla yeah but me mam said that about the 60's and me uncle said that about the 70's.. I lived in the 80's and it wasn't that good to be honest... music was great though.

  • @LadyMacalla i think they all were good except for today, because there are things the 80s cant have on the 50's for example. when rock and roll was real and cars weren't plastic (like they were in the 80s lol)

  • @LadyMacalla you're soo right! nothing compares to the 80's

  • @LadyMacalla agree

  • @LadyMacalla not until about 88 up until then it was proper shite..................all culture club and duran duran!!

  • @E15geezer i loved the late 70`s-mid 80`s, but from about 86-89 was proper shite. jive bunny, stock, aitkin & waterman bollocks & all that crap & then came the stone roses, charlatans et al & saved us all :)

  • @twistedsistaqteu you just made me have a charlatans mix!! oh how I loved the madchester stuff, centreforce radio, echos, freshnight at legends, jenkins lane!! aaahhhhhhhhhh now I am old and sad.......and into Nick Drake. lmao Geez.

  • @LadyMacalla 70s?

  • @LadyMacalla I think that can be said for every decade until the 90's but I would of loved to lived it in the 60's but I was born at the latter end of it. But the 70's was kind of funky. The British 80's was rather unsophisticated and punky. These days it is one size fits all and sexually explicit; not so many pioneers of new music out there. Pushing the bounderies today just means baring more torso flesh and simulating sexual intercourse.

  • @LadyMacalla Its not that music now is bad, but its just too generic, so little by the way of choice, endless converyor belt of boy bands and bland. the eighties were rich in variety

  • I feel I can own up now and say I have this on 7" record.

There doesn't seem to be much you can't find on youtube. What a great way to while a way your time! 80's nostalgia rules.

Beat, the boxer beat, the boxer beat, do the boxer beat!!

  • i've got the album! on vinyl!

  • got this on a square 7 inch picture disk cool!!

  • Brilliant.

  • Classic 80s at its best still sounds fresh to this day.

  • 'let the sad ones have E'

    great track!!

  • Still sounds fresh too ,not dated like a lot of 80s stuff :-)

  • that brings back some happy memories, still have the 12" somewhere.

    thanks for uploading

  • Great days the 80,s as were the 70,s. bring them all back. boxers were cool.

  • Blimey, what a flash back. Ive got this amongst my 7'' singles. Dead catchy. Thanks for posting.

  • They are sorley overlooked when it comes to 80s retrospection. LONG LIVE JOBOXERS!

  • They put out a great LP with two UK top 10 hits, one of which also broke the US top 40. Quite an accomplishment when you consider the odds of every becoming even momentarily successful in the music business. You can bet that there are a lot of bands who envy these lot for what they've done.

The Jam, for example, never had a hit in the States. I'd say JoBoxers did well enough, so good on em.

  • Love this song, bought the record when it came out and still have it

  • I remember buying this in Woolworth in Merthyr Tydfil. I'm showing my age now!!!

  • Lovely stuff, sad them boys never made it.

  • They were tipped to be the next big thing however never really happened for them.

  • This is just fabulous, check out Just Got Lucky as well, I want the 80's back!! p.s. is that Manzies Pie & Mash shop in Chapel Market, anyone??? Looks v familiar!

  • dont worry, im gonna build a tardis and kitty and any one else who wants to can hop on cos thats going my way:)

  • any room on the tardis....one way mate,take me back...god i miss the 80s

  • No mate it is the Cookes Pie and Mash shop that used to be in Dalston on Kingsland High Street, it closed down years ago. I remember when they filmed the video as they caused quite a lot of intrest from the shoppers in the sainsburys that was lust along from the pie and mash shop, two of which was me and me mum back then 25 years ago.

  • The 80's finished in 86.

  • Spot on cosmicfly79 - I couldn't agree more!!

  • Great hats

  • F.....king great

  • A CLASSIC !!!

  • gay!!!!!where does that come from mate!!

  • Someone in my old school used to play with kids balls and we used to sing 'Benderbeat' at him

  • I remember my first travel to England. At this time it was No 1 there. In Germany :-( It has been gone a long time since i have get this single.

  • I remember dancing to this as a 4 year old. Good stuff.

  • I was about 8 - still clueless though... Luv'd it.

  • Another 80's classic, fantastic fun music, missing in this crap decade of Boy Bands and manufactured music. Bring back the 80's!!!!
