I am doing an experiment: looking at all videos of alleged "koga-ryu" styles to see if any of them even seem like they might be legit. So far, this "nine cutting hands" group is a big fail. Too flashy, too overcomplicated, and too much that is obviously taken from other styles. Gonna watch some vids of their grandmaster first tho.

Taijutsu translates as "Body Technique" and has been a frequently used term for "unarmed combat" instead of "jujutsu" in Japan. Several traditional martial art schools in Japan refeers to their unarmed techniques as taijutsu techniques.

But this isn't the best example of any elements of Budo.

Tokakure Ryu Ninjutsu isn't taught like that.

or..it has similaritites to some of the very old ninjutsu which in most cases looks like an advanced form of Karate and joint locks from aikijujitsu or jujutsu. All arts are the same is some kind of way. The only thing diff in Ninjutsu is the grappling with the sword (Kenjutsu) and yes i understand kenjutsu is ninja sword fighting but dan levels have grappling. the other being almost nothing but balance taking and last...kuji kiri. I do nothing without studies first!

...Gyokko ryu, and gyokushin ryu. And ALL of these were started by one of the first instructors...Hogenbo tesshin with the art....Ikai. Yes, Koga Ryu wasent on the list was it? but koga ryu was said to have been started by a couple of these roots. Also...use your head for a moment. I have read and studied up on 333 other arts from around the world. i think i'v seen pretty much every type of fighting there is. even if Koga doesnt exist anymore...it either cant be much diff from bujinkan...

I have a leiniange document that covers a little over 1000 years of Ninjutsu with all of the Ryu's of Ninjutsu that has ever been known and the instructors names and all of the ryu's break off to join the Bujinkan, from koto ryu, kukishin ryu, shinden fudo ryu, kokishinden ryu, gikon ryu, takagi yoshin ryu, kumogakure ryu...

And you know the funny thing...in every art....EVERY art.....you will have this problem or something very similar. If this art is real and a good part of it WAS carried on...kudos, and if it isnt real and someone made this s*** up...shame on you. And I'm sorry but even a Bujinkan Instructor told me to learn anything you can from any art and throw it into your bag of tricks. I have been very disapointed in alot of bujinkans teachers. They say "We don't need anything else and all other arts arent worth learning"....what kind of s*** is that?! Who is to say it didn't get carried on through someone or did get carried. Benifit from it either way. The teachers warn you when you learn this art.."this isnt the FULL art...just some of it."

well...I have been training in the Bujinkan for a bit now and I do see a few similarities...not many but a few. Yes...the Nunchuks and kali (escrima), were adapted to this form to give it a little bit more flavor lol. It may not be the old traditional form of it but more for modern use. Ever use Kihon Happo in todays society? little bit more difficult but still possible if added a bit modern fighting with it. it may live through a few family or students. Open the mind, use everything you learn!

actually. hatsumi claims to have the holy grail of ninjutsu, a direct transmission of the root of koka and iga ryu...

notice i said CLAIMS...

because there is NO ninjutsu in the bujinkan...the last shinobi practitioner was fujita seiko. we know this because everyone after him is only saying that 'ninjutsu is or includes MA/budo/taijutsu'

there is no evidence to support such claims, ninja martial arts started with takamatsu, do your research...

there was an estimated 53 familys in the koga province. fujita was not the last koga ninja. maybe in his family he was, but not the other 52.

Now if you can't prove a lineage to even one of them then the best you can say is your teaching a freestyle martial art interpretation or just call it your own artform and be done with it.
