  • Nothing precooling? I think the melted metal temperature was too high and it was too liquid for the casting. Or it was too cold for the casting. Therefore it was a big hole in the fresh casted metal.

    Pipe organs are all built this way, regardless of whether they are built in America or elsewhere. And not just pipe organs: all the finest musical instruments are built by hand. That is why good musical instruments are very expensive.

  • @niekas I'll second that. All pipe organs, everywhere, are made like this. No one has developed any better way of making pipes than by hand; it gives the maker more precise control than you'd think. Go to Japan, where the highest-tech is in use in almost every industry, and organ pipes are handmade.
