  • Still a great track - Numan was years ahead of his time, and has always been a great live performer - those live shows back in the early 80's were awesome

  • still great song after all these years.

  • I am Numanoid

  • an excellent artist

  • good song...

  • great intro to my all time favourite album

  • It's a great song, but I've always wondered if he'd just bought a cheap phaser pedal, and really really wanted to show it off. Cause the guitar riff is just grrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrr for the first half.

  • @AshleyMarkPomeroy "grrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrr" must be one of the longest words in the English dictionary!

    antidisestablishmentarianism is the longest.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK no, Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is the longest in the dictionary, but there are ones containing up to 2000 letters outside of that.

  • @NekuChibi ah....but can u pronounce it without faltering.......!

  • @ElectronicMusicUK touche

  • All I hear in this is Hawkwind, but more robotic/static sounding.

  • Superb. Still has it 32 years on

  • One of the best new wave artist evah

  • Heard the live version & loved it.So good to hear the original.

  • Brilliant!!....

  • 100% perfection, beautiful synthwave! much better than industrial

  • Im sorry this is not my style, i like the God Module type of this song more.

  • PERHAPS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS FROM THIS..ERA.;.!!!!! NUMAN ROCKS..!!!!!

  • what do you think about this ? Gary Numan in hebrew

    v=1BX_T7mxWhU

  • Gary was awesome back in the day but like all musicians he slowly lost it and sold out. Happens to all the good ones. Look at David Bowie going into the 1980's. He went from Scary Monsters to singing the China Girl bullshit.

I don't like Numan's new shit either but I can't single him out. It happens to ALL the great ones. After so long they just lose it, and you can never out do your best album.

  • @29thsoundwarrior spot on mate

  • @29thsoundwarrior lmfao singing china girl so a broke iggy pop would get a royalty cut. that really was the end of his golden era, although there are bright spots here and there

  • go gazza go

  • theres something about this album .the sound /atmosphere etc never heard anything like it before or since .32 years later still my best album.

  • Well, 'lovesGenet'......:

why the hell don't you try and make music yourself?

It's all so easy, making music, writing songs....

Isn't it, you twirling little nitwit....?

  • ive got a date with gary numan on september the 17th here in london, can't wait to see him performing live! anyone is going too?

  • Que buen tema!

  • of course he went downhill after this and the pleasure principle .replicas was a one off sci fi album .

  • @vespasianlegx11 I actually really enjoyed the different sound he put out with the Dance album. All of his stuff from the old days is classic. the man was incredible, and he possed an emotional depth he never really got credit for. I am old enough to have been around his first time around and i loved him then and love him now. Awesome artist

  • Timeless...............

  • yeh true but where r u in the music bizz u hipo critic all of u nothing other than PUPPETS!!!!... ME I DISCONNECT FROM YOU!.

  • The best track from his early years?

  • Gary, I love you then. I love you now! Replicas and Pleasure principle, are masterpiecies.

  • Agreed, Numan was the major Influence at this time....but it was a case of the right time, situation.........etc. respect... massive impact!

  • What a load of shit! Gary Numan is fantastic go back to listening to Roger Wittaker

  • What a load of shit! Gary Numan is fantastic go back to listening to Val Doonican!

  • All the "ripping off' comments need to end. Art inspires art. It is circular. God forbid two artists have similar sounding styles and tracks. I enjoy Gary Numan's recent works, for the darkness and the paranoia. People grow and change, and their music will change with them. Artists who create the same album over and over again are liars interested purely in selling records with no courage in deviating over what has already sold.

  • genet i guess you are the fucking twat

  • i guess people change

  • The Rolling Stones haven't put out anything worthwhile in decades. Yet they tour and make money. Numan's time was the 80's. What Numan created was unique, and others (like the aforementioned NIN) havecopied and expanded on him. I like to appreciate what he did back then, for what it was. Most bands don't change much, if at all. I don't expect any more from Gary.

  • this is the nuts. spent many a day in the 80s listening to this. had replicas on cassette lol.... very underated

  • Absolutely perfect..............

  • He should have toured with Zappa

  • Takes me back to frosty nights in the year 1979, music brings back memories

  • 10 monyhs since the last comment....what a shame. Today's youth doesn't know good music!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @littleboeep

    I completely disagree.

    "good" music is completely relative.

And I just bought Telekon on vinyl, so there!

  • I still think his newer music is good. I love the man. I think he's a genius.

  • Genet....you twat!

  • I disconnect the phone whenever those idiots call trying to sell me stuff!

  • this song is so good why does everyone go on about the beatles so much when we have so much great music from this guy,

  • @kenotram ITs just one of those mysteries of this Multiverse of Cosciousness

  • Love the Polymoog drone!

  • gary numan is like a drug, 1 or 2 songs and your hooked

for me this one and are friends electric

  • Awesome Song!! Brings back memories! Those of us who were teenagers at the end of the 1970s-early 80s were so lucky to have such unbelievably rich and meaningful music to experience. This one is a true giant... The lyrics, meaning, emotion, beat and sound are truly impressive.

  • I must say, this is their best song after Cars. Thanks!!!!!!!

  • I agree its life altering and about the new music well when your young your ideas are great and getting older, well the brain goes your views change, can't be perfect and young all your life.

Even though I still feel 20ish but enthusiasm and other stuff has altered drastically with me unfortunately.I was pretty inventive when I was younger with games.Like Gary with music. Understand?

  • bless you for adding these!!!

  • There are some albums that are life changing, and some you can listen to once and forget you ever bought it. This is absolutely life-altering. It's a shame he didn't persist longer, but it's certain his influence did.

  • Oh Dios! qué maravilla encontrar éste tema que me enloqueció cuando apenas era muy jóven, creo que tenía 18 años, y creo que en el ´79, . Gary Numan cambió mi manera de escuchar la música. desde entonces me encanta el techno.

  • great tune

    chazo

    vegas

  • Pips nightclub in Manchester was the place to be back then.

  • @jiggybilly or the One Way in Los Angeles. This is where I heard this while a guy was strung up to a wall and another on the pool table.

  • His new music shows no growth in fact the chords, changes,no riffs at all!,the writing is so uninteresting .He adds some guitar nina nd rythms.I can't believe his talent has not grown. This was a grt period for him. There is so little horizontal movement in the new stuff never an interesting arrangement or bass line.He needs to study music .His range is unbelievably narrow.Depeche mode grew and changed. Many did.Look at pistols vs. P.I.L. steling CAN's ideas but still that was ferocious growth!

  • @lovesGenet

    You speak the truth friend.

  • @lovesGenet Hey if you can do better lemme know, ok ????

  • @lovesGenet Excellent analysis. The tightness of Tubeway Army gives you the sense that a a "band", not an individual, is helping to propel the excellence of the songs. I also have to mention the crunchy guitar is way ahead of its time. It's a shame it did not continue that way.

  • @lovesGenet this was a brilliant opening song on a fantastic album.after the Dance album he didn't go anywhere really. I assasin,Warriors and Berseker were ok but I couldnt tell you anything he did since the mid 80s. personally I blame it on the saxaphone and the girl backing singers

  • @lovesGenet

Indeed. The music now he puts out is so dark and uninteresting. I wonder if it was more a decision on his part because he grew tired of this type of music or if perhaps he was told there was more money if he changed his genre of music. I believe he has the ability to pull off this kind of work today if he wished. I bet it got real old to him after a while though, especially when he had stated he didn't want to be known just for the hit 'Cars' on a talkshow

  • @compelx Well the world is a lot darker today than it was when he made synth pop tracks like this my friend.... people draw influence from the world around them so it makes sense...

  • @lovesGenet Have to agree.Gary was superb in his youth but he started to try to write music that he thought would make him money instead of writing from his soul. His latest efforts are such a rip off of nin it is untrue, that is why his record sales are lower than ever,no talent these days.

  • @KGMDMusic

You are more than correct. No talent at all in any of his music since Machine/Soul.

  • Comment removed

  • @GaryNumanAlbums Machine and Soul is a sack of bollocks. Even he says so.

  • @GaryNumanAlbums

"You are more than correct. No talent at all in any of his music since Machine/Soul."

You want a piece of commercial crap, that album fits the bill perfectly.

Personally I think your ears need cleaning if you think that's a good example of his work.

  • @GaryNumanAlbums

Actually he did change. It doesn't fit the music he makes in the beginning of his career. He turned out to be an atheist and his lyrics match that of his perspective of how religious says save the world. But does nothing except tell people to pray to make the world a better place.

His music is the reflection of him being pissed off at how shitty the world is even from his youth and he sees it only getting worse.

Besides that. People get uppity about him being a "heathen" lol

  • @GaryNumanAlbums i disgree with u all the new Gary Numan to me is the best one in the industry i mean his albums may not be selling because people downloading em but as far as him having no talent i think his new stuff from dead son rising is most he has ever displayed. i prefer industrail numan over synth pop numan.

  • Comment removed

  • @KGMDMusic FUCK

  • @KGMDMusic I would have to disagree. Don't get me wrong, I personally don't enjoy Numan's new stuff. But just because someone changed doesn't mean he's sold out or just trying to make money. From recent interviews (in the last decade or so) it sounds like he just doesn't dig this style any more. He does what he wants and I don't think money is an issue for him.

But, he's touring the Pleasure Principle album now to make fans like us happy!

    I see him tomorrow night!!!

  • @KGMDMusic

You have to remember that he does have Aspergers.

Aspergians are reluctant when it comes to changes.

    (I have Aspergers myself.)

  • @WoodRatGirl i hav aspergers too..Although his newe music kinda SUCKS, His early 80ies stuff was and still is phenomanal...

  • @KGMDMusic

He inspired Reznor, who now inspires him.

    What's your beef with that?

And can u say with a straight face that songs like "Haunted", "Dark", " A Question Of Faith" etc aren't good?

Exile, Pure, Sacrifice, and Jagged were all great albums.

I love his old stuff, but I also like his current direction.

Just because you want him to relive his past doesn't mean he has to.

  • @KGMDMusic "ripping off" is a two way street. Reznor's done his share of ripping off from Gary.

  • @KGMDMusic i agree totally, used to love the chap

  • @lovesGenet Tit.

  • @lovesGenet

I was thinking this about his older music too.

Like Pleasure Principle and Replicas are really good albums, but they show very limited talent in songwriting, mostly in his riffs. Good, but not much variation.

  • @lovesGenet that's ok with me i love the first 3 albums

  • @lovesGenet What exactly of his new stuff have you heard?

  • @lovesGenet you fucking twat.. get a hobby or a job etc xxxx

  • @lovesGenet

    Yoy are truly an ARSE!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @lovesGenet numan has only ever got better YOU DO WHAT HE HAS DONE

  • @lovesGenet Sad but true, if only he ignored the capabilities (or lack of) of his voice and trusted his instincts he might have grown musically. I will always believe that he should have utilized Mick Karn more to his and and Micks benefit.

  • @lovesGenet it's worth looking at the people who he had around him at this time, for example Billy Currie, straight from leaving Ultravox!.

Often the figurehead stands for a shadowy collective. Very much in the spirit of 1970's UK.

  • @lovesGenet Commercialism is the devil.

  • @lovesGenet If he changed though wouldnt a bunch of people bitch and complain either way about that too?

I mean hes being true to himself, not writing a bunch of new age radio edit shit like lady gag gag

  • I used to have this album. Even his first album showed great talent as a songwriter, arranger. This song sounds so good cranked up nice and loud.

  • @dirtygirlof76

    I still have it.

The kids and grandkids LOVE it, but are not game to touch it, I play it for them sometimes. The vinyl sounds SO much better than an mp3!!

  • I love this song, the version of White Noise is my favriote though

  • yeah just broke up wit my girlfriend at the time, its a proper song!fuckin bitch...lol

  • This was a really good album. Not my taste of music, but I did enjoy it.

  • What!! get some therapy. You are clearly a nineties baby or an OAP.

  • wat is an oap?

  • old age pensioner, someone who retired after passing the age they can collect a pension

  • Memories...a great album, I also like his earlier stuff.

  • i was walking up the stairs

    something moved in silence

i could feel his mind decaying

    only inches away from me

50 and i still listen to this. God the memories it brings back.

  • you are so right!

  • @srybishop ....hMMMMMMMM......YESSS !

  • The alarm rang for days

  • Took a lot of acid and listened to this album.

  • Active he may be but his last offerings have been cold ,sterile, lifeless, boring, innane, and irrelevant... This LP was the best thing he ever did IMHO. Like others who have posted here I still listen to it regularly..

  • You are talking out of your tight butt my friend, listen carefully to the Hybrid LP for example and look how far he has come in 30 years, he has just moved with the times, unlike you I would suggest..........

  • H is for Hybrid and HA HA HA HA HA HA HA You're so funny. Moving with the times eh???? RE MAKES of already perfect gems... Humm let's see... SLOW DOWN THE TEMPOS... OVER crank the bass so much that distortion dominates, bury the vocals so they sound like LUSH AND METTALICA ON A BAD ACID TRIP. Boy NOW THATS moving with the times. I'll keep my butt tight to keep crap like this out!

  • @Metrobilbao oH WOW SO MUCH DETAIL....YOU MUST BE DRUNK LIKE ME YOU PLONKER !

  • @Metrobilbao SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BOOK IMHO ?

  • Thank God for music captured in time! The trach takes me right back. It's still got that cold, detached vibe that a moody, pre-pubescent kid could relate to.

  • saying something that im 46 and still have this album playing in the car.

Trust me when I say this that this album is perfect so if you have yet to hear it go and get it.......please dont turn me off, I dont know what im doing outside..

  • These were the good old days listening to Gary on my record player and singing i even know all the words until this day and i'm 42 now!!

  • get this on full blast in your car whilst blasting down the Motorway. meeger megger go go go

  • The alarm rang for days

    You could tell from conversations

I was waiting by the screen

    I couldn't recognise my photograph

    Me, I disconnect from you

  • Check out the rasping beat and the smoothly mixed in synth it dosen't get eny better than this, for a newman track, wicked, just what the doctor ordered.

  • i could feel his mind decaying only inches away from me. holy %$#@. give the poor bastard an excedrine already.

  • such a cool front cover, even cooler than the pleasure principle cover. great song, this is one of my favourites

  • The dopest. Numan just had it for a period of about 3-4 years, and this is what we've got of it.

  • I rather think Numan still has 'it.' He has been an active and stellar artist right up through today.

  • I don't wear black nail polish but I had to add this to my playlist!

  • i got nthis back in the day when i was12and thought 'thats the coolest man i've ever seen!'

i still wear black nail polish every day!

  • I love this record, we used to play StarWars on Nintendo and listen to this one.
