Plagiarism is such a stupid fucking law. Everyone has different ideas and you shouldn't be called a thief if your idea is SIMILAR to someone else's. There is a difference between EXACT and SIMILAR pieces of writing. Similar isn't plagiarism, exact is.
It's not like students are making a profit from that essay, they just wanna write a paper in which they have no interest as fast as possible so they can get on with their other courses' workload.
Since all ideas, interpretations and concepts in society have an origin with a specific source we should have to show the source for all things or risk plagiarism...... Although sources are nice for doing follow up research and to indentify verity.
NO! YOUR OWN WORDS ARE DECIDED BY THE #1 STUDENT IN YOUR SCHOOL! THAT MEANS THAT IF YOU USED YOUR OWN IDEAS, BUT THIS STUDENT SAYS THEY ARE NOT YOUR OWN, THEN IT AUTOMATICALLY IS PLAGARIZED!
For a classic example of plagiarism, feel free to investigate a youtuber called TheCrazyBugga....
The details are on my channel page.
TheCrazyBugga has been filling some YT comment pages with plagiarised material (that's not even about the topic under discussion), on a daily basis for about 2 months now.
The reason why he started doing this, is hilarious.... unfortunately, it happens to be a very serious subject, and a very tragic truth, that he is trying to prevent from becoming known...
Use a mixture of these techniques and you have yourself a great assignment with the minimum effort :D
Particularly effective method is to make friends with the people in years ahead of you. In my University they keep the same assignments from year to year and so... well you get the idea :D
They showed this in my high school on the school station a while ago to curb plagiarism. They didn't source where the video came from and took credit for it.
@EmperorNorton2008 Actually it's not plagiarism under the fair use policy for education. However they can only use it for a year with out asking for permission.

I remember in 7th grade, where each of us had to do a presentation, one of my classmates was busted copy/pasting from a site, because in the text it said "I have personally witnessed women having their birth-control pills removed at the border at *some foreign country*". It was obvious, but it gave us all a good laugh.
plagrism in a high school or college is a joke because the source you get it from don't for the most part write were they got thier info so as long as you change the wording you should be able write it as if it was your own
@bugabuse lulz, that's like when Frank William Avignale Jr. was on To Tell the Truth after being released from jail on parole - after the bank fraud spree that got him there in the first place - to be asked if his parole was real. :D

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.

I have issues with plagiarism. For example:
Lennon cracked a smile for the first time that afternoon: He and Joseph actually saw eye to eye on something. (A line from a book)
He cracked a satisfaction smile knowing that David and him saw eye to eye on something that evening.(I edit to make it my own)
Or you watch a scene in a movie and try to follow it. Twist and turn it to make the line and situation different but almost the same scenario.
Is this plagiarism?
