This is a typical graphics problem that I experienced using an Nvidia graphics card on some Linux Distributions. Those cards are not standard compliant. Use an ATI video card and the system will run perfectly.

Appreciate it, but I believe now its the Intel GFx POS in the mobo, so i'll have to fork up for a new card

Try using ui1 to see if it does same thing?
