  • Same DUMB arguments in this country via republican "christians".

  • oh SNAP

  • love the writers of this show and Dixie's delivery

  • But if she was on Fox she would have been shouted down and run out on a rail. There are lots of people who have healthy opinions like this who are never given a platform, or are pepper-sprayed when trying to voice them.

  • Amen Sister. Amen. Perfectly said. This should go viral. Share it. Share it. Share it!!!!!!

  • As true today as it was when it was written.

  • this woman rocks

  • This was made of awesome :D

  • I wish I could be that articulate when getting emotionally fired up. Simply breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was with her until she started talking religion.

  • This scene rings true even more during these troubled times.

  • I have always loved this rant and this character. What makes it more impressing is the actress who plays this part is a Republican.

  • OMG I remember that it is too bad that Democrats don't have guts to stand up to the scary Rick Perry types

  • It's too bad her opponent's comments weren't included beforehand, because he made some good points...but in the end, Julia won the debate (though she lost the election).

  • This was one of my all time favourite "Julia Rants" of the whole series!

    :-)

  • I always loved it when she went off on ppl, Especially those that thought the world revoled around them...... Amen to Julia and Dixie, you played on heck of a lady.... God be with you and bless you all the more now that you are with him....

  • She may been a republican but her views were very much along the same lines as what she spoke here. She was for gay rights, womens rights, civil rights ect!!!... She was an awesome woman and we need shows like this on today!

  • julia sugar baker for president!!!

  • I clicked this by mistake, but then once she started talking, I couldn't...turn...her...off...

  • Holy Shit!

  • Great rant but,

She kind of embarrasses herself when she says "We're today probably the most uneducated, under-read, and illiterate nation in the Western Hemisphere."

Um, no. The Western Hemisphere includes South America.

    Oops.

  • @Parmeniscus no she means the western industrialized nations

  • @Parmeniscus Its not her fault either, that's more the fault of the script writers, as anyone in acting would tell you, though the star of a show has a lot of leeway in how they read their lines, they cannot under any circumstances change the lines themselves. If she caught that mistake she wouldn't have been able to say anything different if it wasn't cleared by the writers.

  • Wow, that is impressive

  • Julia Sugerbaker was and still is one of my favorite tv characters! Rest in peace Dixie. You are sadly missed!

  • Tell him off, Julia!!! She is so right on the money in this scene! Miss you, Dixie.

  • My fave episode! :D I never thought this was a liberal rant. It's simply a CORRECT rant! :D

  • My fave episode! :D

  • Her politics are as bad as her dated wardrobe. How did I stand this show all these years?

  • @lauermar In reality Dixie Carter was a registered republican, she had a deal with the show maker to do lines such as these as long as she was allowed to sing a song in the show. Dixie's personal vies were drastically different from Julia Sugarbaker.

  • @ricovelas Actually she was a Libertarian.

  • @Azlaier sir, while she described her views as libertarian, she was in fact a registered republican. This information is found on a few websites.

  • bam!

  • Mistah Briquette!

  • WHERE has this been!!!??? I've been looking for it for months. YAY! I LOVE this scene. It's SO true too!!

  • Damn right! Julia Sugarbaker makes you want to take on the world!

  • Very few women can put another person in their place and lay down the law like Julia Sugarbakers has done in this scene ---- all while sitting there with her legs politely crossed.

  • I love Dixie Carter even though I'm definitely more conservative in my political and social views. She was such a fabulous actress who started her career at a much later age than most hollywood actresses. She started out her life in an impoverished Tennessee background and yet became a very successful, very classy woman. She'll always have my admiration.

  • @Smalltowngal29 Actually Dixie Carter was a conservative in real life. But, wow, Julia made a great liberal. I'm one and she convinced me with her performances. What a great actress! RIP Dixie.

  • I get an AMEN! Liberals are still being treated like crap and we have one in office still!

  • BRAVO!! BRAVO!!! BRAVO!! AND A BIG THANK YOU!!!!!

  • I remember this scene and I cant believe they voted him in office :)

  • WOW!! Total Class!

  • how did they know exactly when to clap?!

  • Dixie was a great actress

  • Great Scene.

I just wish they would have put the cue cards for her somewhere else.

Her cue card reading is so noticeable.

  • There was another episode Dixie Carter was in that was really good. The episode was called The First Day of the Last Decade of The Entire Twentieth Century. In that episode she holds the hand and listens to a 102 year old woman speak important wisdom before she passes on. That episode is an episode I will never forget. During these tough times a lot of people would appreciate that episode. I would love to see that whole special episode on youtube again!

  • Agreed! this IS a great scene! Seems more from her heart than a script. Guess that's what made her so darned good. Bless your heart Dixie, we miss you already. Pls go to the NCI homepage for info on Endo Cancer.Every year 7780 women die of this curable disease. I was diagnosed last June n WILL survive!

  • I think that this video says alot about what is going on in the USA today!!! I think that if more people understood what "Julia Sugarbaker" was saying we would be alot better off!!!!

  • @hotsingle1983 AMEN!

  • I can honestly say she was one of my favorite actresses!! She was classy and sassy, a natural beauty, a rare combination!

  • Do not test Mrs Julia!

  • RIP Thanks for all the humor.

  • loved her in the show. We do not have great people like her any longer. we will miss this great lady

  • this is awesome.

  • My absolute fave! Thanks for posting this scene! Dixie Carter was so fantastic. I will miss her. :(

  • I LOVED her on Designing Women. Kept waiting & hoping she would reprise her role as Orson's psycho-mother on "Desperate Housewives." Not gonna happen now. I will never forget this great lady.

  • @NotsoNutso - Wasn't her character made unresponsive and mute so that her mind still processed buy she couldn't control her body or voice? Kind've hard to reprise there.

  • Just as true today as when originally said.

  • Wow, that was amazing!

  • I never even heard of this show before, but I am disappointed I did not.

  • fantastic

  • Julia Sugerbaker is the best ever!

  • SIMPLY AWESOME! I wish all religious people would be like this.

  • Comment removed

  • @rkulla It should include ONLY atheists, IMO. No place for fairytales in government.

  • Lawd have mercy! I don't know which is worse...the shock or the sadness of Dixie's passing. Such a strong, good lady who influenced many people. It's when people like her that are no longer with us that you realize the impact they had on you. A true class act...we'll miss you Dixie.

  • The funny thing is she was a conservative/libertarian in real life. :P RIP Dixie You were an amazing actress.

  • Incredible monologue!

  • i met her as a little kid, i knew her niece as a good friend,

    rip.

  • RIP DIXIE

  • Perfectly said!!!

  • Is she reading off cue cards??

  • that just rocked my world!!! RIP Ms. Carter

  • Condolences to her family and friends. She was a great lady!

  • Good heavens!

  • i've never heard of a southern liberal, but rip nonetheless

  • @rabbit605 Then you don't get out enough, because we do exist!

  • @rabbit605 I'm one.

  • @rabbit605 well, darlin', come on down, and we'll give you a good ole dose of Southern liberalism and a good meal to go with it. :)

  • @bogadea - You're at least the fourth to reply so I stand corrected - my apologies. Thanks for the hospitable offer! If I ever find myself down that way I just might. ;) Nice to know I wouldn't be alone.

  • @rabbit605 Your reply was most gracious. Graciousness may be an old-fashioned virtue but a much admired one nonetheless. Regards.

  • Looooove this!

  • So much class! Where is everyone's head? Loved her.

  • rest in peace....what a classy lady...

  • Going to miss you Dixie. We all love you .

  • Dixie, you will continue to shine. RIP

  • @jlo1n27104

    don't bet on it

  • RIP Dixie! ;-( A woman of power, grace, class and virtue thanks for posting this video clip of her in action!

  • R.I.P Dixie </3

  • R.I.P. Dixie....I love you...I have been told Im like Julia Sugarbaker, a spitfire southern belle, and I am so honored to be thought of that way, and that she was played by such a beautiful and strong woman, you will be missed

  • RIP, Dixie...I love you.......your speech here would also be for Palin.

  • Nobody rocked a speech like Julia Sugarbaker!!!!! Shine on, Dixie...

  • Carter may have been a republican but I think this is the one Julia speech she would agree with. It was more anti propaganda than anything else and I know many on both sides that are fed up with propaganda and distraction politics.

  • R.I.P

  • she could chew somebody out like nobody else could!!

  • Damn straight! She was an amazing woman, and I admired her greatly. She will be missed. <3 ;__;

  • @Tsuki17 are you saying "damn straight" to julia sugarbaker's statements? because in real life, dixie carter was a die-hard republican.

  • Preach it sister!

  • Yes, I do agree. We need to see this over and over to be more respectful

  • RIP Dixie/Julia...heaven is going to get just a little more jazzy and spunky!

  • RIP Dixie & Julia. AMEN Sister Julia, AMEN!!

  • True to this day!

  • This is so ahead of its time!

  • RIP Dixie. You were a true woman.

  • HELL YEA! Oh Julia, you were my little preteen self's hero.

  • RIP

  • RIP "Julie" Dixie Carter passed away today....
