  • I mean then we had Ulrich,Pantani,Armstrong.

  • This is the moment I got hooked on the TDF. Fantastic. hen we had Riis, Pantani, Armstrong in 1999 and I was also happy for him. Then we got the horrible Armstrong years where he started to show his despicable character. So glad when he decided to quit. Even better when he came back and got beaten by Alberto. I love The Tour! I wished I started watching sooner than 1995.

  • According to wiki this guy had one of the slowest heart rates ever recorded in a healthy person (@ 28bpm RR). 1 beat every 2 seconds lol.

  • @danishsatire indurain never said that idiot

  • indurain was natural . in1996 he leave the ploton because there was no hopes to beat dopes cyclists

  • The doping didn't work out

  • @VikingInvaders That's original. For the record he was never tested positive.

  • That doesn't prove anything! However winning the TDF 5 times in a row tells me a lot. Besides Armstrong and Rasmussen was tested positive either and people who believes that these riders are clean are ready for the mental clinic

  • @VikingInvaders I don't know where you are going with this other than just generally ranting and lingering over the same old tired 'cyclists are all dopers' discredit. Cycling is moving on and perhaps you should also. Do you think snipes about doping are going to help things and move the quest for 'clean sport' forward? I guess you could argue they all doped then and therefore the playfield was still even anyway; what it doesn't take away is that he was one of the finest athletes of our time

  • @amhampshire "cycling is moving on"...yep towards the next scandal. These riders are a disgrace to this great sport and so are those who doesn't condemn them

  • @VikingInvaders Man you are driving me to drugs; just off to shoot up an asprin...

  • Indurain only won 2 stages outside the Time trials in the tour de france. Lance Armstrong >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Indurain. Indurain one of the worst champions in history, his defensive tactics was appaling and simply took advantage of a poor era in cycling

  • @jackdanielss Miguel Indurain was big man champion in a little man's game. For hundred of years now most of the people on the podium are little mountain goats and that's fine. But Indurain championed above all this. For this, and for his humility, he is a great champion.

  • its the 7th stage chambery-les arc - i have the complete stage on vhs

  • I believe Indurain had faired very badly in the rain before this stage. Amazing athlete but was often accused of being boring.

Amstrong tambien ganó varias vueltas menores, clasicas y etapas.

  • @SmartCasual86 y un bronce mundialista

  • the Miguel Indurain era, one of the best moments oh The Tour

  • I like Miguel Indurain, He was one of the best that I've ever seen.

  • Golden days of the Tour!

  • This was probably one of the greatest stages in TDF history, from start to finish. If you can forget about the fact most of them were on EPO that is....

  • "Lance is the greatest champion in the history of the Tour de France, not in the history of cycling, that s Eddy Merckx." ~ Miguel Indurain

  • % Tours in a row is a miracle. No shame being beaten on 1996. Just winning a single Tour in your career is a marvelous achievement. Winning 5 is just... amazing. It's natural. At some point all great cyclist see their careers end.

There's no point in comparing Armstrong to Indurain. 2 different cyclist at different point in time. Im spaniard but i have a greato respecto for armstrong.

  • 5 TOUR 2 GIROS SEMPRE INDURAIN

  • Indurain much more to it to launch! Indurain had good opponents and throw noo! 5 tours and 2 twists! haul only ran for the tour and the rest of the year did nothing! indurated and the best point

  • Induarin and Mercks have been the best two by miles

  • ok, gotcha, sorry for blowing like a volcano. i get you now, that is funny. haha

  • wow, lose a pound yourself. or better yet, cut your balls off. that's the most retarded "advantage' i've heard of.

  • INDURAIN INDURAIN INDURAIN !!!

  • Armstrong is a lousy cheater. Not more.

I loved Eddy Merckx, the best cycler of the world!

  • EPO from team car?

    Not help.

    :)

    Armstrong 777777777777777777

    :)

  • QUESTION: how come Indurain couldn't take a water bottle during his climb?

    what's the rule on that?....

  • Riders are not allowed to take bottles from team cars in the last 20km of a race (sometimes 10km if the organiser think it's really hot that day).

It's so the team cars are not up at the front during the decisive last kms of the race - if they were, it might interfere with the racing, drafting, pacing, etc etc.

  • @niceonetom: thanks! it bugged me wondering why there's a rule like that. that was a "nice one, tom!'

  • se me saltaban las lagrimas ese dia...

  • looks as if miguel indurain forgot to take his EPO load the day before:-)

  • Yes, because the day before Armstrong left the TDF carrying whit him all the EPO available

  • that explains everything:-)

  • In 1995 and 96 Armstrong was not able to climb a shit. EPO was not enough for him

  • Armstrong will still kick your ass in 2010 LIVESTORNG MTF

  • he will need a wheelchair to go back home

  • Ohhh, so that was one day after the popular day, when Armstrong had to quit the Tour as a consequence of his disease.

    It is said at 3:10!

  • this is the year Bjarne Riis was doped up to his eyeballs and won the tour in which he recently admitted. Was a disgrace. Try as they might in their ridiculous accusations of drug use by Indurain they let someone like Riise away with it and look at the sport now. It was so clear he was on drugs. He was foaming at the mouth for Christ sake on every stage of the mountains. The fucking French hated the fact a Spaniard was dominating their Tour. Its a shame how they treated one of the greatest

  • i love cycling but do you realy think there are CLEAN riders ?? from 1990/1991 till now there is epo and you can see cycling changed forever !!!

  • atleast bjarne had the guts to tell he took doping, unlike the rest of the peloton who were also using doping but just didn't tell

  • Bo Hamburger was doped

  • The winningest pros seem to be about 5' 10" and use 172.5 and 175

LeMonde was 5' 10" and used 175mm crank arms.

  • Wondering: what are the longest crank lengths used by any rider today in pro racing?

  • 72.5mm used by Armstrong and Leipheimer

  • For out and out drama this stage, along with the final TT in '89, was arguably the best in tour history.

  • An example of bonking, probably due to lack of food and/or water. Wearing down of the body over time doesn't help either.

  • Chambéry - Les Arcs

  • was a cold day, leblanc has arm warmers in july

  • no it is not at all, because it is a simple and true cycle of life. in sport we forgot what it is to fight against years passing through the life of somebody (follow my eyes)

  • probably the dirtiest generation

  • Why are world records are coming down?

  • really awesome footage, great color casting by Roche and the other Irish guy.

  • cyclism and athletism are the most controled sport , what about foot and rugby ???????

don t be silly , sport at high level is a great joke ! welcome to olympic games..

  • Amstrong use drugs..everybody knows, tour de france had the evidence every year, and they said that, but couldn´t go to court because of economic issues. Amstrong was money and promotion around the world for tour. Indurain, the best ever....no discussion

  • Ive been waiting for someone to give me the facts about L Armstrong and drugs, go on then spill the facts.##

    He's dirty is he?

The finest cyclist that ever turned a crank is dirty?

    Go away you scummy nothing.

  • Miguel is the most incredible sportman I've ever seen. He was the best once, when there were at least 3-4 "supers" (Rominger, Bugno, Chiapucci, Zulle...)

Lance is very big, but no way like Miguelon.

  • @jorgesalamancavi

They're similar in that they were both fuelled by EPO and other forms of cheating :)

  • @keimal Riijs won this Tour. Afterwards he recognised that he was an EPO cannibal. Miguel was the big man, then, bastards like Riijs were together to beat Miguel. Miguel showed the world that he did not take EPO and this staff. Siempre el más grande Miguelón! Viva Navarra! Viva España!

  • @kehizman

Dude, if you think Big Mig wasn't fuelling on EPO you're sadly deluded.

  • @jorgesalamancavi

Zulle rode in the armstrong-years, comming in 2nd in 1999

    Basso

    Ullrich

    Pantani

    Indurain: 10 tourstages won

    Armtrong: 22 torustages won

You're probably from Spain or spanish-speaking, I understand, i'm not sayin armstrong is much better, but you're wrong.

  • Eddy is the best in history, after him it will be Miguel Indurain and Hinault. Lance won the tour but no other major race. An also it is a fact that he took EPO and other substances that he said he needed to treat cancer which he knew it wasnt true, however Lance has the best lawyers on the country.

  • No one's gonna tell you a thing about the Yankees because here in Europe we don't give a damn for baseball.Lance had bad days?Maybe some days he was not as much domineering as others but he always was completely recovered the next day.

  • why the hell did they penalize for taking water from the team car?

  • The man was human after all... And, like who does not dope, had bad days. The ones that in 7 years never had a bad day, like Armstrong the cheater, are the abnormal ones, who we should suspect of...

  • Oh Lance never had a bad day did he? He never "bonked" in 2000(please search Lance Armstrong bonks on youtube if you like)... Lance got his doors blown off in the individual time trial in 2003(stage 12), Jan Ullrich dropped him on a mountain stage again in 2003 on Plateau de Bonascre, and Lance couldnt answer attacks from Iban Mayo on Alpe De Huez in 2003, nor could he answer attacks from Vino on Bourg d'Oisans - Gap stage also in 2003.. How un-informed can you possibly be about Lance Armstrong?

  • Very ignorant. Tour 2000, Joux-Plane. Look it up.

  • I meant 'real' cracking... Few seconds, when he is already in control is perhaps just a way to disquise against his secret. The FACT is that he was never real threatned and in other stages (I remember when Ulrich left him a few seconds behind in a climb) it was nothing. The FACT is that ARMSTRONG = CHEATER!

  • A few seconds?? Lance lost over a minute and a half in one stage to J. Ulrich in 2003. Ulrich also beat him in mountain stages a few times. Lance's bad days are common knowledge to anyone who actually follows cycling. What are you going to tell us next, that the Yankees never lost in the World Series??

  • Anyway, he doesn't have to prove his innocence but others have to prove his guilt. So, for me, he is a fair winner and a great champion.

  • Armstrong deserves all our respect because of his great courage but you can't deny it's a little bit suspected the way he won 7 consecutive Tours when, until 1999, he only had been a "good cyclist".

  • Armstrong never was controlled positive but Rijs neither and several years later Bjarne confessed he was dopped in 1996.

  • actually they found EPO in an armstrong doping test from 1999. but they only detected it a few years later when they were able to detect it with new methods and by then the test results were irrelevant because they were done too late!

  • Actually thats not quite true. A French agency froze some of Armstrong's urine samples from the 1999 tour, and conducted tests on them a few years later that supposedly found EPO. But the results were not irrelevant because the were done too late, they were irrelevant because after an inquiry the testing methods were found to be "so far below the required scientific standard that the results did not constitute evidence for anything."

  • This proves that Indurain didn't dope, he had some bad days in his career. Armstrong, for example, never had a bad day for seven years.

  • Again, Tour de France 2000, Joux-Plane. Bad day for Armstrong but using your flawed logic it at least proves that he wasn't doping!

  • Jasperplai... you´ve got a problem with no solution. You´re a complete asshole

  • Indurain arguably best cyclist ever For sure. Arsmtrong would have never won 7 tours with indurain who won 5 in a row and also the spanish vuelta and il giro twice !

  • agreement here m8

lance just raced the tour for 7 followin years. he was a pusher and the federation letted him get shit coz of his balls cancer...

    anyway, respect for lance

  • Indurain never won the Vuelta, he finished 2nd to Mauri in 1991 but that was the closest he got to victory

  • It's a shame they didn't show the exact moment where Indurain blew. All they showed was a few moments after he'd been dropped. I've read somewhere that the Mapei's (Rominger and Olano) did as much work as possible in the last 4k's to put as much time as possible into Indurain. Shame the TV coverage wasn't better.

  • "Indurain makes me sick because he's actually a really nice guy. You can't actually work yourself up, there's no hate involved, no anger. He's a really nice bloke and a true champion." — Chris Boardman

  • Something went wrong with Indurain and his EPO - poor guy

  • something went worng with your intelligence -poor ape

  • Obviously you are fan of Indurain ;-)

  • 3:12 "..yesterday,armstrong packed it in and climbed off his bike and said no more for me.." lance armstrong? cant be.

  • It sure was Lance they talked about.

Before Lance started to use EPO he quit most of the tours :-)

  • yea, Lance Armstrong. He was diagnosed with cancer in October of 1996... so that's why he didn't finish.

  • Fausto Coppi e Gino bartali a belli!!!

  • Vancomycin87, He didn't test positive for EPO in 99. People were concerned he took some type of drug, but when they investigated it, it turned out to be a cream to treat saddle sores which Armstrong got approved by the Tour de france board. And by the way, If he was so succesful in winning the tour de france in 1999, 2000 without drugs, why would he have to take them later on in the 2000's?

  • the frence hate lance due too winning tour so many times . thats why they target the none dopper

  • Lance's doping controversy was a product of the French media. Let's face it, the french don't like Americans. Even worse, Lance is from Texas. Him winning the tour was like a french baseball team winning the world series. People in france were syaing "Why is this American doing so well and our riders doing so poorly? He must be on drugs, it's the only explanation." However, Lnce has been tested Hundreds of times, and not once did he test positive for roids, EPO, or anything else.

  • LMAO !...how ingenuous you are?! his urine sample from ´99 was tested positive of EPO...but than in the 2000s he doped (probably) with EPO of the second or third generation ...btw: ricardo ricco took the second generation...maybe schlecks do it with 3rd..but i love cycling...by fair

  • Don't give a monkey's about what Lance has or has not done. The guy is an arse!...Ruined the Tour as spectacle. He will NEVER be cycling hero in my books...And just because he hasn't been caught(though their has been smoke, and theres no smoke without fire.)Doesn't mean he didn't dope. Love him all you want. I have no time for him.

  • If I am clean and beat riders doped to the hilt then I must be superman

  • Armstrong was a doper. So much testimony. Speak to Simioni or Bassons or Whittle or Andreau. Ask Bruyneel about the doping programme at US Postal that he continued at Astana.

  • THE BIGGEST EVER.

He won 5 Tours against REAL opponents like Bugno, Chiappucci, Zülle, Rominger, Jalabert, Ugrumov, Virenque, Lemond, Riis, Pantani... and with absolutely no team, while Amstrong had one of the best teams ever.

And he won Giro and Tour in the same year twice (while Lance only prepared Tour).

Add an Hour Record, World Championships, Olimpycs...

Lance was great, but Miguel was the greatest

  • Damn straight Miguel was the man, and is still the best cyclist Ive seen on the tour!

  • Big Mig was indeed great, but I think it is a bit unfair to say he had no team, as a matter of fact he had a great team... Not alot of flash, but hardworking, loyal and effective...

  • Indurain cracked. Of course, he's human... Armstrong never cracked in 7 years. Meaning that, since he is also a human, he had some secret... CHEATER!!!

  • he cracked 2000 in morzine...

  • Lost a few seconds, doesn't count!

  • I dont care about the audience numbers. It was boooring, and I suppose that if there was an increase it was because of the new americans interested in cycling because of Amstrong, but who cares about audience? Now the tour is much more interesting, because you dont know who is winning...

  • And don´t forget he had to fight (apart from Rominger and Chiappucci) Jalabert, Zülle, Bugno...

    Who´s Armstrong fought with?

  • Only the biggest talent the sport ever saw...

  • For starters he had to fight for his life, he beat cancer and that is better than any sports win!@!!!

  • He was the best. He was modest and generous. He had great enemies, like Rominger and Ciapucci. We must remember that if Miguel had not been there, we would have had a "Rominguer" era. I bet Rominguer would have won at least 3 tours. Amstrong never had any great enemy. His era was ther most boring ever.

  • Yer an idiot. Armstrong's era was the most boring ever? Go look at the audience numbers, the highest ever. Watching Lance race was awesome because it was him vs. everyone. Lance was and is still the best. Watching these weak sauce losers race each other is pointless because Lance could destroy them all.

  • Pantani, Ullrich, Belokki,Basso,Vinokurov,Kloden,Virenque,Zulle!! By the way! The 2003 TDF was one of the most eexciting ever! Lance is a living legend like it or not!

  • Lance sucks BIG time!...hate him...ruined the tour!...And for your info..Eddie Merckx is the GREATEST cyclist ever to live. And in the tour...He won the Green jersey, KOM jersey and the Yellow jersy in the same Tour!..thats class!. Over 500 wins..no cyclist will ever achive that again.

  • Eddy was cought doping twice! Lance was never cought ;)!

  • thats wrong. Armstrong is aready cought.

  • So wheres the media frenzy;)? Every french newspaper would pounce on that news! Lance has already won ower 13 million $ in lawsuits in countles accusations! Know what?? Nobody coould prove that he doped;)!

  • @Belokki

    Wrong!

Armstrong had to many red blood cells in 1999, which indicates the use of EPO. And it really doesn't matter whether they have be caught or not because we all know that most of the riders cheat - and for sure every winner of the tour

  • The best cyclist ever, Big Mig.

  • Every body here who wite shits about Miguel have no idea of cyclist, Miguel won 5 consecutive tour beting bii men as Ciapuchi or Rominguer, aso won Amstrong and Lemon , and a big squad of big cyclers. Is Injustice to say that miguel was doppes, he was tested a lot of time and ever he had a positive.HE was a gentleman in his sport carere

  • Bjarne Riis never had a positive either .. moron

  • JJajAJa , RIss was full of epo, he recognized some years ago. And The tour hasn´t retired yet his tittle, What a shame!!

  • That was completely uncalled for.

  • the whole peleton was doped... not only telekom...

  • 1. Indurain didn't lose. But he never could win the tour '96, because the whole team telekom was doped.

    2. Amstrong was not a sportsman, he was a medical test object.

  • He finished 11'th..thats a pretty bad defeat...

  • Indurain is doped get it into your small heads

  • I didn't like the way Indurain rode, he never attacked in the mountains, but he was a humble champion. The Armstrong era was the most boring in cycling history though.

  • Big Mig was burnin oil

  • I hated to see this, Indurain was my favorite cyclist of all time, power, grace and unlike some other riders, class and HUMILITY!

  • El Rey. A great run by Big Mig. perhaps undone by others who were doping.
