A friend recomended this film to me. I will thank him. I saw the whole thing, and at the end, I cried. Why do humans feel unsatisfied by what was already real on earth? Why do we have to build things that fail, decay and become our subjects of burden rather than glory? Why do we have to build weopons that burn the whole world and not just ourselves before organizing harmony?
@TheMeistereckhart Im not sure i would enjoy the whole film i dont know much about it but i like the one specific music part which i heard in scrubs where they chant koyanaanisqatsi
This film kept giving me the same feeling throughout it, the same feeling I would get when I was little, the feeling that I was so small and now I realize I still am, I am just one light in a building
Amazing! I love how it still remains having it's impact. Plus the haunting idea back then of how people were afraid they could be hit by a nuclear bomb every moment.
Wow, just wow. I was honestly not expecting to like this movie at all, but I decided to sit through it and give it a shot and just wow. I'm hard pressed to think of a better way to deliver the movie's message. It just makes me think about a lot of things.
Brilliant creation this Koyaanisqatsi...effectually mirroring humanity, our pointless, mechanized, monotonous, soul sapping, resource exhausting way of life. A continuum of images is worth an entire script of words, and coupled with the selected music even that much more impacting. Slaves without chains or cells, toiling to make the next buck in a system serving the elite. Take a seat, grab your remote and a Twinkie, sitcoms and reality shows to numb the mind. Mankind's been duped!
Wow, I just saw all 9 parts in one go. I saw the movie about 30 years ago. I had forgotten, or else never realized how incredibly powerful this movie truly is. A very sincere thank you thesumofparts.
So much things makes it go through your mind but yet no word is said, the music isn't just put in there, it is the story, it is everything together with the images. just amazing..
this video fills me with hope. I see the soul behind the machine. behind every assembly line, car, building, and skyline are real people. people who love, feel, laugh, eat breakfast, and cry. as the world progresses into a post-modern and interconnected culture, I reflect that it is still individuals taking this ride through life. and as individuals we have generally good hearts and, though turmoil is as unavoidable as the weather, in the end the greater good will prevail.
Of course, the best way to watch this is in one long duration (no segments). This movie is so hypnotic (in my opinion) that having my attention drawn away every ten minutes to select the next video in the sequence can throw me off. Regardless, this is my favorite serious film of all time. The synchronicity between the music and the visuals is just right there.
@OffWhiteCow I noticed how it kept me hyptonized,in a flow, and when the segment of 10 minutes stopped, i noticed how the effect stopped. amazing. man, this film made me think so much, like a dream, the keypoints were The bigger picture, of individualism, is the modern world of the west really for the individual? or do all the individuals just server an greater collectivism, maybe evil or good, or maybe none of both, but it takes away the purity.it's all so much and hard to explain, itsdepressing
Thanks for posting the entire movie online, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My father walked into the room at part 5 and said this is weird and walked out. I might agree, it's a movie that may challenge us. It reinvites many ideas that we see now in the 21st C. It sure as hell doesn't give me hope. Stunning nonetheless.
@mathavian It made me really emotional, as it showed how the person which feels himself not comforty in the bigger mass society as its not natural and free, as the person to think actually right. the bigger mass of cattle and the smaller elite of smart thinking people. it's just all so big. this movie is brilliant. it makes you think and philosophy about so much things in the world and everything.

Sorry to say it but I feel like I've wasted an hour and a half of my life. Aside from the fact I tortured myself by leaving the sound on whilst watching this (Philip Glas makes such dreadful music in my opinion) I thought that the same message could have been delivered with a lot less material, in fact possibly strengthened. I suppose it might just be down to its age or that I'm an active observer of the world around me but the film seemed a little bland and empty, and I don't mean symbolically.
sorry to say it, but i loved the music in this film, and i thought it could have taken even longer. i think you have to be in the right mood for this kind of thing. passing it off as weak just after seeing it once is not really fair.
Thank you for posting this. I haven't watched it in a good many years, love love love the soundtrack. I get a very similar feeling from the cinematrography on Home, I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.
...and nearly 30 years on, it's only gotten worse. I am Zarathuza. Look on my works man and despair.

where did it all get us, in the end? What did we achieve? What do we achieve? Where is the meaning in our fleeting, ecstatic existence?

A beautiful song doesn't make the lyrics true.
No matter how powerful this is, I won't stop thinking the underlying view of the world is bullshit.

One of the all time greats for sure. Has there ever been a movie where the music contributed more to the flick than this one? I doubt it.

Is the whole film music?

@Mbarnes3381 Why not klick on "part 1" etc and see/hear for yourself? You might even like it. Or would that consume too much time?

Do you mean the one with Glenn Close as a narrator? (I'm asking because there are tons of movies with that name on imdb and I do want to see it)

Pretty sure, yeah. It's the one that's entirely aerial photography, in any case.
