@gtaisawesome87 Believe it or not, I'm actually one of the few Brits who enjoys this film. The only thing I don't like is that clearly many British people take rather large offence to it and mouth off about it, and in turn I don't like the mass anti-British comments from many Americans who get a little too patriotically stirred by it.
Nonetheless, it is a great film. Jason Issacs makes a wicked villain, Mel does well and the acting and fight scenes all round are fantastic! :-)

@slippo99 Ok, from the 99 in your username I can assume that you were born in 1999, and conclude that you're vastly too young to understand. The context is different, the warfare and weapons are different, the right to gun ownership today doesn't mean you can stop a goverment dictatorship which has control of a military with fighter jets, bombers, mortars, artillery pieces, grenades, tanks etc. Weapons were easier to make and use in the 18th century, even cannons weren't hard to construct.

I am an American, and my father is in the military as so many of my other ancestors. My family even fight in the Revolutionary War. We came from Scotland, Germany, and England. I think that some Brits should get over the fact that we won the war. I mean it was over 200 years ago!

@gtaisawesome87 Doesn't matter either, D-Day is not a British, French, Canadian or American victory. It was and always will be an ALLIED victory. Every nation's armies was decisive to the resulting victory, which is why the countries that fought can celebrate individually as well as together.
It is rather pitying that so many Americans have been convinced by some bloody stupid that D-Day is a US victory.

@gtaisawesome87 Believe it or not, I'm actually one of the few Brits who enjoys this film. The only thing I don't like is that clearly many British people take rather large offence to it and mouth off about it, and in turn I don't like the mass anti-British comments from many Americans who get a little too patriotically stirred by it.
Nonetheless, it is a great film. Jason Issacs makes a wicked villain, Mel does well and the acting and fight scenes all round are fantastic! :-)

you can tell that Lt who thanked Mel for the care of the soldiers did not want to do that. If Tavington had not shown up the house and barn would never have been burned, nor would Thomas been shot, or Gabriel arrested.
In a movie sense Tavington's action caused failure at the end.
