he picked up his dribble in mid air, how the fuck is his "first step" counted as picking up his dribble if he never grabbed the ball with both hands until he was hopping back? so yeah it was completely legal and your dumbass for slowing this down and still not seeing it. smdh
@AsianPersuASIAN22 right its a travel they stopped calling...once you stop dribbling 20 feet from the hoop you can take any steps...they just don't call any of this stuff against superstars
@KoolDude742 Your sentence makes no sense. You do know that a jump stop is a legal basketball move right? Whether or not you travel isn't based on an opinion, it's based on the rulebook.
that is definitely a travel. there's so many people that think it's not. i've been reffing all age groups for 8 years now, and he takes his last dribble at :21, establishes a pivot foot, then takes 2 steps to the left. and if you think nba rules and regulations really establishes true footwork conduct, then i feel sorry for you. watch some college basketball where players don't get all star treatment and footwork regulations are established and concrete.
@911goathead bro..who respects a 13 year old kid? please hit puberty and grow some balls first before coming at me with comments and no explanation. you state that you're 13 as if you're gonna get respect for it, but it really makes you look a dumbass kid who worships the NBA and doesnt do his own research on basketball regulations. so...suck it, goathead.
@xjdub908x wow i cant belive your arguing with a 13 year old to this level, ILL be the adault here and end this. and actually i prefer college ball where they actually call stuff.. and before you go tell me to hit puberty i think you should get your head out of your ass and go learn some respect.
@911goathead hey all fun and games for me, man. just tellin you it's not a travel. if you do watch college ball, watch some more of it and then come back to this video. and respect should be reciprocated, so you rebuking my comments in the first place are also signs of disrespect. take that into consideration.
@xjdub908x It looks like he picks up his dribble at :21 because the angle. Watch the other angle, from behind and he dribbles takes a step back then jump stops. Its just like a normal jump stop, just appears like a travel because it is the opposite of tradition jump stops. You take one step forward in traditional ones usually the jump stop. This is the same thing in reverse, not a travel, just looks like one because the way it is done. What Lebron (5 steps) is traveling. Not trying to argue JS.
Dam this vid suks it was clearly a step back with both feet into his shot jus anotha hater hatin on someone who can ball better then them..its OK Gino, Barkley's got yo bak...GINOBILIIIII!!!(Barkley voice)
its a stepbaack when he took the 'first step' u said, the ball was not gathered by him, wich mens it was a gathering step and then he hopsteped, legal.
NOT A TRAVEL! After you pick up the live dribble a player is allowed to take one step then the second consist of both feet landing at the same time. It is called a "Pro Hop" and is perfectly legal.
It seems like people do tend to travel a lot when attempting this move (not just in the NBA but from my personal experiences just on the courts)- but this is not one of those times, Ginobili did it perfectly. No travel.
lol. Not a travel, not even close. A nice although not guaranteed rule-of-thumb when it comes to disputed calls is that if the other team doesn't say anything at all, then there's nothing to call. Don't you think that if Ginobili traveled and did so obviously enough to warrant you posting this video that Mbah a Moute or someone on the Bucks would have been yelling for a call or made the hand motion for a travel? No one did. I'm a Bucks fan and I was pissed he made this, but it was not a travel.
he went left which is manu's strong side that's why it looked awkward...it's like taking that last hop going right, to do a hopstep once you have a possession of the ball to do a quick jump shot...
If yo think that He Traveled then i guess manu is to tomplex for you! you know that manu uses alot of moves that look like travel but its not like the euro step!!
hard to tell it can be a travel bcoz he picked up the ball and then did 1 step and then jumpstop, but if he would jumpstoped and then picekd up the ball it wouldnt be travel for sure
Nice job! People who call it a travel should at least become NBA referees. That's one of the smartest NBA players hitting that game winner. He's Manu Ginobili!!!
if this is a travelling lebron, kobe, anthony and many others in stead of the 25+ ppg they have they should averaging 15 or so becouse every time Kobe get the ball with his back to the basket travels, everytime lebron or carmelo go for a dunk, they travel, so, please, to all the idiots that now are screaming for this buzzer beater, go learn some nba. travelling is not called in the same way they does in fiba for example
your flaw his that you're counting his jump off of one foot separate from his jump stop. If jump stop only constitutes the landing then there is no possible way to not travel. Poster of this video is wrong.
he didn't travel. in two steps you have to do at least one bridle and he didn't have the control of the ball at the first step. then he did a jump-stop
@brycethepimp I actually play basketball as well and if you look at 44 seconds his pivot was established then he picked it up. its a travel in any league that its caught in.
@fullybuiltcivic1 that's not a pivot foot, you idiot, it was his first step... how can you have a pivot when only one foot has touched the ground with control of the ball?
@XxWombOxX Emm i'm not a Spurs fan but it doesn't take a genius to figure it out, but that was not travel. Its called a hot-step! Mate you have anger issues, telling people to suck their mums cocks and shit, thats fucking weird...Buy the basketball starter manual, you need it
Lebron and Kobe (and others) run into these issues a lot too. They really stretch the point where they supposedly pick up the ball because they don't use two hands, so they get away with an extra step. It depends on what point you view it as controlling the ball (officials seem to take it when you grab it with two hands), but it's one that all players, not just stars, get away with if they can pull it off.
His *actual* first step occurs on the step prior to where the video says "First Step". That makes his "First Step" a second step, after which he needs to go in the air and get rid of the ball.
Then, his feet land sequentially on the 'jump stop', not simultaneously. Even if we grant that G's second step after picking up the ball is his 'first step', his 'jump stop' still constitutes 3 steps.
But stars get the benefit of the doubt on these calls.
"progressing player" means he is continuing forward, he reversed his direction plus his feet did not hit the ground at the same time, two reasons it was a travel
In Europe,or any where alse in the world this wouldnt even be a question, everyone knows it was a travel. But sadly in the nba traveling is no longer a big deal. Its really sad, because trvaleing rule is one of the most important in basketball, i really dont understand why its so desrespected these days in the nba.
He should've just planted his right foot on the hardwood at 0:42 and shot a fader but instead hopped backwards off his left foot. In the real world its a travel. In the NBA its whatever the ref decides.
Tough call to make by the refs but it doesn't change the fact that Ginobili is a fantastic ball player and all those who criticize him are only doing it out of envy because did down inside they can't stand the fact that a white guy from South America is so successful in the NBA (as well as a genuine star of this game). It makes me laugh because the very same people who are bitching about Manu are the ones who will then defend Lebron, Wade or Kobe every time they take 5 steps going to the hoop!
TheTwoManGame, yur right on. It's not a travel if u notice the refs head was looking a bit downward towards ginobilis footwork. All refs know of his euro 2 step. And what a beautiful display of it on a step back. Pierce was a basic step back still good tho...
Seriously, c'mon. You must have had a lot of money riding on this game to spend that much time making this video and complaining about something that is so obvious. EVERYONE knows, and has known for years, there's no travel in the NBA. Technically, you could go through this game or any NBA game and pull out 30 travels. It's the NBA man. It's what makes it the NBA. It's what you call "NBA RULES" in pick up & someone calls you 4 a travel. If u want travels, go watch a junior league.
This video is pointless, stuff like this happens all the time. It's looks like a normal step back jumper to me. Lebron takes like 5 steps every time he goes to the hole
this is clearly travelling. dont go all nerdy on me trying to break it down and shit. ugly footwork caused it. manu should stick to flopping and leave the game winning step backs to paul pierce
I think, this rule just overwrites THE TRAVELLING violations of basketball, because so many players do it in the NBA. FIBA-wise it should be plain travel, I mean the referenced rule. BTW I am not clear with the latest fiba rules. 5-10 years ago it was definitely a travel. I am still talking about this NBA rule.
The Manu drive and stop was not travel because: in my opinion what the video calls first step is still part of the live dribble. And he did a simple stop on both feet.
the real bs call was the knicks celtics game where amare's shot should have counted. there were really .6 or .7 seconds left idk why the refs didnt review the time after pierce hit the shot.
AND they're supposed to reset the clock back to .4 instead of leaving it there because it as really at the point where it was switching from .4 to .3, so when amare touched the ball it went to .3 immideately which is wrong.
@cencalifas umm you really don't know what you're talking about. Skiles said it was a travel in the press conferance the next day. And guess what, so did Ginobli. You're a fuck tard
okay First off, there is a clear push off. Second, if you watch his RIGHT foot after the "LIVE DRIBBLE" pause screen(0:40) he pushes off with his right foot while the ball is in his posession, he than proceeds to land on his LEFT foot shown at the 0:43 second mark (frozen screen) "LIVE DRIBBLE", thus making his second leap to the "JUMP SHOT" screen a CLEAR TRAVEL. This is my first youtube comment people. i find necessary because this video is showing false information. WORD.
These bums are suppose to be the best in the NBA and it took a botched offensive possession on the Bucks end and a borderline travel with push off (both not called) for them to win.....oh yeah, I forgot that with 2 minutes or so to go that Manu committed a clear Charge but it was called a Block on Bogut....Spurs suck, but I still love my boy Timmy.....Wake Forest fan for life.
The opposing Bucks player appears to have slightly touch the ball with his left hand anyways I believe that's probably what the ref saw and thats why nothing was called, game over point, blank, period!
For those who still think that Manu traveled, HardwoodParoxysm (who I believe posted this video) has a different analysis than what I posted, but comes to the same conclusion that it was a legal play:
@danthemankandy lol When I first saw the video, I thought he traveled but as I watched it over and over before this video, I knew it was not a travel.
The NBA rule: "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."
and turniton.com at PtR says:
"It’s not a travel because he only had one hand on the ball, therefor he is mid dribble, when he pushed off with his left foot to initiate the jump stop. It just looks like a travel cause he was going backwards but it is technically the same as performing a forwards jump stop mid dribble."
If someone had told me, two seconds after the ball dropped through the bucket, that Manu had made a legal play, I wouldn't have been able to believe it. But there it is. He didn't drag his right foot while taking his first step with his left foot (which I would've sworn that he did) & he cleanly landed and jumped with both feet together for a legal jumpstop.
It looks as awkward & illegal as anything I've seen, but it definitely fits the rulebook description & so, has to be a good play. Weird.
no travel. Just the weakest stepback in the world!

this is clearly travelling. dont go all nerdy on me trying to break it down and shit. ugly footwork caused it. manu should stick to flopping and leave the game winning step backs to paul pierce

@blackballa14 hahaha I fuck with the paul pierce saying....thanks

AND they're supposed to reset the clock back to .4 instead of leaving it there because it as really at the point where it was switching from .4 to .3, so when amare touched the ball it went to .3 immideately which is wrong.

open your eyes people. his feet didnt hit at the same time on the jump stop. travel
TDGIHEAY 1 year ago
okay First off, there is a clear push off. WORD.

This is probably the best video out there. It clearly demonstrates that Manu didn't travel.
MedicalPhysicist08 1 year ago
Clearly not a travel. I can see how the less educated, casual basketball fan would think it is however.

Obvious travel

These bums are suppose to be the best in the NBA and it took a botched offensive possession on the Bucks end and a borderline travel with push off (both not called) for them to win.....oh yeah, I forgot that with 2 minutes or so to go that Manu committed a clear Charge but it was called a Block on Bogut....Spurs suck, but I still love my boy Timmy.....Wake Forest fan for life.

@nvmyc thats why the spurs still won!! homes

The opposing Bucks player appears to have slightly touch the ball with his left hand anyways I believe that's probably what the ref saw and thats why nothing was called, game over point, blank, period!

I can't post the link, but go to hardwoodparoxysm, search for "have-ball-wlll-travel-manu-ginobili" posted on 2010/12/16
FreshTunaOffTheBoat 1 year ago
For those who still think that Manu traveled, HardwoodParoxysm (who I believe posted this video) has a different analysis than what I posted, but comes to the same conclusion that it was a legal play:

Jump stop counts as 2 steps dumbass TheTwoManGame. Are we doing crab dribbles now? Fear the deer, the Bucks were robbed by Batman/Pinocchio

This has been flagged as spam show
If someone had told me, two seconds after the ball dropped through the bucket, that Manu had made a legal play, I wouldn't have been able to believe it.
Weird.
