But I cannot see how in a head on clash, all the power of Sidious would not be enough to negate this - he was not even using the full power of the Dark side as he did with Yoda. I have read how if Windu won, he only did so because he forced Sidious onto the window ledge, causing him to channel energy into not falling out.
@ShadowGricken The problem I have with this is how Windu eould have been affected himself...he is not exempt from the laws of physics lol Sidious drove Windu back in the first half of the fight in the movie. In the book, he just dominated Windu throwing him about, acting weak when Anakin arrived. Sidious killed Kolar, Tiin and Fisto in matter of short moments. He knew Windu was the toughest. People forget Sidious spent years around each Jedi and would know their abilities, sense their power.
@ShadowGricken As for Dun Moch, I am very familiar with this. Known about it for years. Dooku used it to great affect on Geonosis, though it backfired on The Invisible Hand. If he had just reigned in his use of Dun Moch, Dooku may have triumphed - which would not have pleased Sidious. Sidious knew all about Dun Moch of course; and probably deliberately encouraged Dooku to use it to an extreme, which he knew would finally play on the anger in Anakin. Time bomb. Sidious would not let Windu succeed
@ThePalaeontologist you also forget that Windu is the most powerful dulist in the history of the jedi order. I agree that Sidous was winning for the first part. Sidous of course planned for this making physical victory irrelevant. But that fact remains that in lightsaber skills. Windu was superior, plain and simple

He hid his power from the Jedi under their noses for decades. Lucas made a mistake I think in making Windu so powerful. He is all powerful in the old trilogy. The story would have made as much if not more sense if he just put up a noble fight and was lured into to think he was winning. Being a match for Sidious makes no sense really. Thats Yoda's job

He could create wormholes in the force that swallow up starfleets. Windu was good, but not that good. But you are picking at lightsaber skills. Well, Sidious is ambidextrous, master of all forms and able to augment his attacks with vicious force speed.
@ThePalaeontologist Sidous was a master of all forms. Exepct for Vaapad of course. As for force speed, remember that Windu could do the same. and he had youth over Sidous. He was younger and far stronger. I do agree though that in the end, it didn't matter if Windu beat him in the lightsaber duel. He's lord of the sith. He KNEW that Anakain would show up at that moment, he had it all planned through. In the end, although Windu was a better duelist, But it makes no difference.

He could have replaced his 'lost' weapon at any point if he wanted. Why not? Not in the plan. His aim was turning Anakin. As we know, he could have dominated Windu with the force. He sensed the Jedi coming. If it was a matter of fighting in a more suitable and spacious place like in his fight with Yoda, he'd arrange it
@ShadowGricken Other than that, I just think that seeing as Dooku is recorded as the only Jedi besides Yoda to defeat Windu in a sparring match, that Darth Sidious would logically be even more capable of defeating Windu. Dooku was really really good. A shade or two lesser than Sidious in saber lethality (he was equally skilled, but not a dangerous if you get me...more of a fencer than a violent slayer like Sidious) and a fair bit weaker in the force. If Dooku beat Windu and drew Yoda...then yeah

Yoda and Dooku were considered as good. not that they beat him. but again yes I agree that Sidious force powers were on a entirely different level than Windu's. but his skill with a lightsaber were far better. I assume Sidous knew that. But also knew that it didn't matter because Anakin would show up at the right moment. Sidous knew he was beat, but he didn't care, it didn't matter. Anakin was his now, so all of Windu's skills come to nothing.

I still like to think that there is a lot of confusion crossing over the EU, novelisations and film saga. A lot of detail in the Clone Wars has yet to be written in for example. For eg I would love to see a Dooku vs Sidious training session explored to show how Sidious treated Dooku in their odd relationship. A Windu Vs Dooku rematch would be great too. Sidious was a genius.
@ShadowGricken Yeah. Sidious reckoned Galen Malek was capable of growing to be his equal - which was neat because it would be the perfect Sith duo. Sidious would always be able to match Malek if he tried to kill him, and so both would exert their will on everything else in the Galaxy with their Empire behind them. This would be preferrable to Vader as he could have been twice Sidious's power (ie pre-Mustafar) and as it turned out, Vader post-Mustafar as he became a disappointment weaker than him

For one, he did not get where he is on his own. For eg STAR WARS the original (before being called Episode IV : A New Hope) had its funding cut in America cos it was feared to be a flop. @darthd4ve Windu actually invented a form of Lightsaber combat that required using the penumbra of the Dark Side to master. He was the only one to sucessfully master it without going mad or turning evil. But yeah give villains credit where credit is due and all that.

According to Samuel Jackson himself on the official Star Wars Website, Mace Windu was supposed to be the "second most powerful" jedi at the time. Yoda, was the wisest, most powerful, and the Grand Master of the Jedi Council. The only reason Yoda could not defeat the emperor, is because he had a time constrant. Clone troops were headed that way to assist the emporer, and though Yoda could defeat the Emperor given enough time, he could not defeat the troops as well. Just so you know. ; )
@WhiteLionKing10 Read the ROTS book and a book about Windu called Shatterpoint. Windu was the most potent swordsman the Jedi ever had. He would have beaten Palpy had it not been for Anakin Backstabber. Yoda was the strongest Jedi but he had no understanding of what the Sith had become under Palpatine. Instead of Light vs Dark as it had been in the KOTOR era it was just Yoda vs The Dark and realising that Yoda knew he couldn't win. But yeah I'll go with incoming Clones too :)

I doubt this will ever have an answer. How did Mace Windu defeat Palpatine when freaking Yoda can't touch him? And how, out of 4 trained, highly experienced Jedi masters, do three of them get wiped out instantly? Is Windu really that much of a badass?
@pm108sstkteom true, but the only reason he lost was because Anakin distracted him long enough for Palpatine to catch him off guard. He was disarmed, backed into a corner, and was exhausted (temporarily) from trying to electrocute Mace. For all intents and purposes, Mace had won. As he was about to kill Palpatine, Anakin maimed him, giving the future emperor a chance to throw him out the window.

@pm108sstkteom Yeah it's pretty inconsistent but oh well, what are you gonna do. We can still enjoy the movie for what it's worth, and accept the unrealistic. As a whole, it's probably the best out of the Prequel Trilogy. Just don't watch the Harry Plinkett review, it kind of ruined it for me haha

@ShadowGricken I read somewhere he had a second lightsaber up his other sleeve...and various others hidden in his ornaments which were all that time unknown to the Jedi, Sith art. He could have replaced his 'lost' weapon at any point if he wanted. Why not? Not in the plan. His aim was turning Anakin. As we know, he could have dominated Windu with the force. He sensed the Jedi coming. If it was a matter of fighting in a more suitable and spacious place like in his fight with Yoda, he'd arrange it

@ShadowGricken Other than that, I just think that seeing as Dooku is recorded as the only Jedi besides Yoda to defeat Windu in a sparring match, that Darth Sidious would logically be even more capable of defeating Windu. Dooku was really really good. A shade or two lesser than Sidious in saber lethality (he was equally skilled, but not a dangerous if you get me...more of a fencer than a violent slayer like Sidious) and a fair bit weaker in the force. If Dooku beat Windu and drew Yoda...then yeah

Yoda and Dooku were considered as good. not that they beat him. but again yes I agree that Sidious force powers were on a entirely different level than Windu's. but his skill with a lightsaber were far better. I assume Sidous knew that. But also knew that it didn't matter because Anakin would show up at the right moment. Sidous knew he was beat, but he didn't care, it didn't matter. Anakin was his now, so all of Windu's skills come to nothing.

@ShadowGricken In respect to Sidious not minding being beaten in saber fighting, thats one way of looking at it I suppose. I still like to think that there is a lot of confusion crossing over the EU, novelisations and film saga. A lot of detail in the Clone Wars has yet to be written in for example. For eg I would love to see a Dooku vs Sidious training session explored to show how Sidious treated Dooku in their odd relationship. A Windu Vs Dooku rematch would be great too. Sidious was a genius.

@ShadowGricken Yeah. Sidious reckoned Galen Malek was capable of growing to be his equal - which was neat because it would be the perfect Sith duo. Sidious would always be able to match Malek if he tried to kill him, and so both would exert their will on everything else in the Galaxy with their Empire behind them. This would be preferrable to Vader as he could have been twice Sidious's power (ie pre-Mustafar) and as it turned out, Vader post-Mustafar as he became a disappointment weaker than him

For one, he did not get where he is on his own. For eg STAR WARS the original (before being called Episode IV : A New Hope) had its funding cut in America cos it was feared to be a flop. Lucas came to Britain and was accepted in Studios there...Star Wars would not have existed otherwise. The EU is AWESOME.

According to Samuel Jackson himself on the official Star Wars Website, Mace Windu was supposed to be the "second most powerful" jedi at the time. Yoda, was the wisest, most powerful, and the Grand Master of the Jedi Council. The only reason Yoda could not defeat the emperor, is because he had a time constrant. Clone troops were headed that way to assist the emporer, and though Yoda could defeat the Emperor given enough time, he could not defeat the troops as well. Just so you know. ; )

He would have beaten Palpy had it not been for Anakin Backstabber. Yoda was the strongest Jedi but he had no understanding of what the Sith had become under Palpatine. Instead of Light vs Dark as it had been in the KOTOR era it was just Yoda vs The Dark and realising that Yoda knew he couldn't win. But yeah I'll go with incoming Clones too :)

@pm108sstkteom true, but the only reason he lost was because Anakin distracted him long enough for Palpatine to catch him off guard. He was disarmed, backed into a corner, and was exhausted (temporarily) from trying to electrocute Mace. For all intents and purposes, Mace had won. As he was about to kill Palpatine, Anakin maimed him, giving the future emperor a chance to throw him out the window.
