Been lonoking for this for awhile, thank u, it's not on iTunes! Whynot! Great New York City club tune, 3rd world galleries , Charlie Browns, Top of the 666
I never got to see this crew live in Cali back then but we were hearing it. Just a cold funky mix of Afro beats, jazzy horn lines, psychedelic funk. Man they could push it. That B-3 Hammond made the case NO STRING BASS!!! (Sorry Calvin)
This is one of the baddest classic funk, r&b/ soul tunes of all time, from the early 70's.This song can stand against any similar song of that era. By comparable groupslike The Commordes, The Ohio Players, Mandrill, War, Kool& The Gang, The
BT Express etc. It's a shame The Counts did'nt make it big like those other groups.
I cannot believe I found this after looking for this for 10 YEARS (or more). I guess being in Seattle has something to dpo with that. No one I have talked to remembers this. I only heard the song ONCE when I was about 8 years old, now I'm 52 and can remember it like it was yesterday. They call what they play today music?!?!?! They don't know 'nothin 'bout thisz!! Thisz is REAL FUNK!
I got some more Philly folks - cabarets and boatride cabarets, when the bands were the main attraction and we had tamborines and whistles on the dance floor. DJ's were secondary they came on when the bands took a break If you didn't soak your clothes in sweat from dancing it wasn't a good party. Singapore Sling, Cream White Concord, TJ Swan, Yago Sangria, Thunderbird punch, Sloe Gin & milk. Loved it, "here's a chance to dance my way out of my constriction", to quote George Clinton
The lived in Detroit. They were one of the great live bands. in fac, they sounded better live than on their LPs. I love the instrumental version of this song. Great guitar solo
thank you very much for posting this great piece. i have been looking for this song, for years and i've just finally now found out the title. it was played a lot in detroit in the '60's and i always missed the the title of it - case closed and thanks again.
Hey Adrian, I'm from Philly, owned a record store. Sold the hell out of this record; it was great, and great times. How about putting up the song "funk pump"?
@jazzmandan50 Actually this was released in 1972. It was the follow up single to their 1969 hit, Jan Jan, which was released under the name the Fabulous Counts.
boatride cabarets, Belmont Plateau in the summer, the Library (club) on City Line, every club worth it's salt and bar had live music with the dj who only worked when the band took a break...Damn where's my Champale and grenadine
On my 21 st birthday, I listened to this album, STEVIE WONDERS TALKING BOOK, AND MARVIN GAYES WHATS GOIN ON, with of course Champale (without granadine), in the girls dorm, at C.W. POST college. A wonderful thing
have mercy! jango..i have to co-sign. i havent heard this in years. this was one my brother and i used to jam on. 'to heck with a hug and a kiss'...'put it in your pocket...' timeless lines. loved the Counts, if anyone has the B side, i think it was Dont Lose What You Got, Trying to Get back what you had'....post it please!!!
O-M-G !! TY,TY,TY ! I never thought I would ever hear this song again. In the mid 80's I had a top of the line stereo system and an older friend of mine had this album. He had taped this cut and played it for me in his car. I searched all over for it at the stores but it was a 70's album. I finally had to borrow his album but I could not enjoy it as much because my system brought out all the pops and scratches on the vinyl. But I do remember the sound quality itself was good especially the bass
You're welcome, I must admit I only heard this song for the first time about 3 years ago on an old school mix show..I immediately ordered the album. Album is hot as well...
brings back memories, living in Atlanta in 73 with my Cutlass baby gangster tires and the underground thx
