  • They both have the same chord progression and ToTo might have been inspiration for Owl City, either way they are great songs and YES...both similar but not the same

  • I mentioned this when the song first came out.

  • sounds very simmilar!

  • They may not be exactly the same but I'm with bradleyland, every single time I hear this song my brain starts to launch into Africa...

  • Blogstein is crap, they don't go together at all

  • ...so?

  • WTF! NOBODY BASHES KARL WOLF FOR THIS...

... even in the Coldplay/Satch case... (love Satriani though)

... you can't copyright chords, rhythms or non-melody. even then it gets shady.

  • I sure there's a lot of sound that use the same chord progression.

  • This is retarded! They don't even sound alike! People and their damn conspiracy theories!

  • my uncle came to me telling me this and i thought he was crazy intell i found this video but i can hear it very well now. Video helped alot thanks

  • I agree with you 100% Dr Blogstein! Every time I hear that melody in Fireflies, I compulsively sing the dudu dun dun dudu dub duuuuu part of Totos Africa after it, and my buddy Scott dies laughing. Hes a child of the eighties and a huge music fan as well.

  • my hubby talked about the same point but i didn't understand what he meant, but now i know what he meant. thanks!!

  • Omfg it has NOTHING to do...

  • bullshit. you have too much time on your hands and your blog fails.

  • I thought I was the only one who noticed the similarity!

  • This is a piece of crap.

  • i think this is crazy! and not in a good way
