  • jackson @ 59 secs clearly is not shooting a 3

  • number 5 at 0:56 , lol

  • This North Carolina team may not have had high lottery picks/future NBA All-Stars like previous or future teams, but they were dominant. They were a 1 seed, finished 34-4(14-2 in the ACC) and a couple of these players were starters on North Carolina's 1991 Final 4 team. Several of these UNC players(Eric Montross, Derrick Phelps, Brian Reese, George Lynch) were McDonald All-American/5-star players coming out of high school players just like the Fab 5

  • One of the least talented UNC teams in my opinion so this was a huge mental run. They were really together. They had to-to guy George Lynch, Montrol, Donald Williams, Phelps and who else?

  • @Lorenshyne Brian Reese

  • number 5 is my uncle henrik rodl!!

  • How that ref missed that walk is mind-boggling..

  • @tydigga because the ref was wondering if Webber will make something more stupid thatn that walk

  • wasn't our best team to win by no means but I'll take this win over a more talented teams we've had that came up short........to many cats stuck on the style over the substance.

  • Great vid. Thanks for the post. Jalon Rose interview on ESPN brought me here.

  • Hi, i dont get one thing: first of all what was unc starting lineup in this? Phelphs, Donald, Lynch, Montross and who? I dont see no more big names on their roster? Secondly seems like everbdoy bacame a bust out of this group: Donald and Phelphs never played in the league, we know Montrose and Lynch wasnt a star too. Thirdly Donald Williams was just a sophomore hear and still became MOP and was the best scorer? How on earth he did not became an nba player? from Turkey

  • look at the guy on the wolverines sideline when they show the replay of cwebb getting the rebound of the missed freethrow u can see somebody on the wolvernes sideline telling cwebb to call a time outthen when he calls a time out the guy on the sidelines starts claapping

  • Who was on Carolina besides Montross, and Lynch?

  • @granitehills2t donald williams, derrick phelps, brian reese, Kevin Salvadori

  • The referee gave Webber every chance in the world to get his head but the Fab 5 proved why they were all talk and no action. Dean Smith forever!

  • anyone else find it kinda weird that dean smith won both his national titles in new orleans because of mental mistakes by an opposing player? im not knocking the man, but still.....kinda odd.

  • @watchutoob1 In fairness though, both of those UNC teams were already ahead when the mental errors took place. No one can know for sure whether the other team would have even scored again in either game. It's not as if the games were handed to him. That would be more like a certain Kansas team that was handed the game by a Memphis team that totally imploded.

  • I saw someone call this the weakest UNC team to win a National Title. They might have been. But what does that say about the supposed "Fab 5." Timeout or no timeout, walk or no walk, Michigan was outplayed the whole game by this "weak" UNC team.

  • If you will notice, the ref was shaking his head, according to him it wasnt a walk. With no call, the other refs obviously thought it wasnt a walk. It was a walk as soon as he dragged his back foot . This was a great final!!

  • i've never seen dean smith so animated when webber walked at the end of the game and was missed by the ref

  • @thatboyhov Let's be honest though - traveling could called every other time down the court....well, at least these days. It's appalling.

  • It looked like a travel but he was putting the ball on the floor when he was dragging his pivot foot

  • This was the worst UNC team to ever win a title.

  • @jcaudill6921 but did we win it? exactly

  • i was watching it, and i don't think he walked..i think that announcer was just being overzealous

  • people say someone on the michigan bench told him to call a timeout. Well look at 1:33, the guy right by the coach was clapping his hands, and the coach was angry

  • @ggman7117 I also saw that onspn. hmm

  • Fab Five Lol how he walk then call a timeout with no time outs left he should have had his head in the game

  • WOW!!!! how did all their style and swagger not win the game for them? Oh thats right, you dont win by style and swagger, you win by discipline and structure, the not so fab 5 had niether

  • almost 20 years later, people still talk about the fab five, because of the swagger in which they played with, i mean they lost to two senior lead teams as freshman and sophs. the only time u here about 93 carolina, is when they talk about the fab 5 lol. jalen rose made a good point that the fab 5 were bigger than the score of the game. every time a school gets a recruitin class, its always compared to the fab five. im sure there goin to do a espn film on the 93 north carolina tarheels lolololol

  • @truthreal2334

At least the 93 tar heels won the national title....what did the fabulous 5 win? highlights to losing.....

  • @Killer0fTheSun yes ur right! they did win and the fab 5 lost as freshman and sophs and never won a title and were cocky and lost to duke everytime and was everything wrong with basketball and didnt win a big ten title and played with too much swagger lol, however in saying all that people rather talk about how overrated or great or tragic or pissed or how wrong or urban pioneers or how stupid the fab 5 were a million times more ever then the 93 tarheels winning the national title lol

  • webber should've became an uncle tom and pursued an education duke instead of being a dumbass

  • It's ridiculous how guys like George Lynch and Eric Monstross look so dominant here but is just absolute crap while in the NBA.

  • Jalen should have went to the ball when chris grabbed the rebound, that's what a point guard does, if he's trapped , you go to the ball, but yea one play didn't decide that game

  • George Lynch went to my middle school and high school!

  • Wow that's brutal. I feel sorry for Webber, a little bit. He seems to have recovered.

  • I watched ESPN's "Fab Five" the other night and was a bit surprised when Mr. Wooferine himself, Jalen Rose, stated they had lost to a team "we were better than." Really? Michigan beat UNC in December 1992 on a buzzer beater off a fortuitous offensive rebound, then needed referee to turn a blind eye to Chris Webber's obvious travel late in the championship to even have a shot at beating UNC twice. Message to Jalen: YOU LOST. Let me repeat that: YOU F'NG LOST! GTF over it.

  • so true!! i actually wanted michigan to win but looking back you can't say "oh we lost as the better team", thats such garbage. yeah michigan was more fun to watch but the better team was unc so stop making yourself look like a dickhead.

  • @WildwoodClaire1 hi odinata, I'm watching you.

This is a watchbird watching a foul mouth.

This is a watchbird watching you WideAssClaire.

    HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR

  • ...and Michigan DID get punished for this, badly.

  • @KobeAllDay024,Ed Martin was friends with jalen and webber long before they were national icons. And for you to want Michigan to be stripped of even their 89 National Championship? You are pathetic, the NCAA already treats our school like we're the devil and the worst thing to ever happen to college athletics. I can name a billion things that are worse than this that happen to everyday universities with no fucking penalty at all basically...

  • This is what C-Webb is remembered for but I think it is a conspiracy because as you can see other teammates who were signaling to call timeout and then clapping when the ref called the Technical, you can see #32 and #14 of Michigan. This to me looks like a setup the fab 5 own teammates wanted to see them fail, so #32 and #14 of Michigan here is a big FUKKUUUUUUU!

  • This is b.s. the FAB 5 is the greatest team ever assembled. For 5 freshman to go to the title game is a great achievement. Everybody know what teams Michigan played against for the national title but can you remember what who the players were, NO.

  • @4UCESO

hmmm how many titles they win??? actually it yes alot of fans do know.. fab 5 werent the original bad buys of basketball either . go look at some clips on here of 1990 UNLV

  • @davidallenroth EXACTLY, THANK YOU!!!! UNLV actually WON a National Title. Oh, wait a sec though, did UNLV actually make it to back 2 back national championship games as 5 freshman and then sophomores? I'm not taking away from what UNLV was I'm just saying if you're so far up on their nuts go to THEIR vid or watch the ESPN documentary on them.

  • @Hitman27100 UNLV was much better than the fab 5, the fab 5 where the most overrated overhyped group of clowns ever put together and put on a sporting facility at the same time

  • @pats4lifebb Tell me of 5 starters to ever reach the NCAA Title Game as freshman, then go back the following season as sophomores. I remember watching UNLV and I had nothing but respect for them. Did they win a title? Yeah. Did they go undefeated? Yes. Does that take away from those years at Michigan? NO! UNLV has no bearing on future teams besides, if all you you're doing is hating why are you here? Have you nothing positive to put your time and energy into?

  • They would have just as well off if they had went to any school. They would have either graduated with a degree or went to the NBA, both a well living. He didn't simply give them a nice car to drive, he gave them half a million, Mercedes, apartments, houses, alcohol, drugs and cold cash. scUM knew what was going on and did nothing. He wasn't helping them along at all, he was paying them well to play in the NCAA even after people knew. There's not one thing worse you can do.

  • Damn apparently someone on the bench told C-Webb to call it... if you saw the documentary you can see people throwing up the timeout sign. Well atleast I know it's not completely his fault I would've done the same thing in that situation if someone was signaling timeout. Anyways he became the #1 pick, made millions, and became a dominant Power Forward from 1999-2003. This probably still haunts him though.

  • Not a Duke fan, but this "whoa is me" thing about Michigan is a joke. Michigan is an elite university. And it is not like every kid that plays for Duke is a rich kid. Bobby Hurley's dad was (and is) a HS basketball coach - how much money do you think he makes?

  • @giants127giants Bob Hurley's Dad coached one of the best high school teams ever! Btw, that is a private school...im sure he get alot of paper!

  • ...realized these kids needed a friend to provide needs for them to get food and stuff like that. I bet your a fucking Duke fan that's got it all made. Shut the fuck up, you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @take9pick I don't blame them for taking money because I would too. I blame scUM for cheating for many many years. This isn't just some random and small violation, this is the biggest scandal in all of NCAA sports and it's well underplayed. It's bigger than any SEC team has done, bigger than UCLA, and right up there with SMU. It's sickening to know scUM has a dirty banner hanging from their rafters. Don't act like Ed Martin was just a friend.

  • dont overlook their all only sophmores!!!! They are not only known for getting to the Championship twice (once as freshmans) but because of their baggy shorts, black socks, black shoes, they revolutionized the game of basketball. Before every would wear tight short shorts, they are awesome!!!

  • Don't refer to this team as the Fab Five, they're forever known as the Fraud Five. The Fab Five does not exist. Can anybody show me where they are in the record books? Oh ya, that's right they aren't there. If it weren't for the FBI the NCAA never would have done a thing. scUM still has their 89 banner somehow even though that was dirty money as well.

  • @KobeAllDay024 , Oh yeah? the fraud five? did you watch the fucking documentary? Jalen didn't have a real family, Juwan's grandma raised him and even she died while he was in high school, and even Webber was poor. They might have seemed like they were spoiled and living the good life, but outside of school they NEEDED money. And Ed Martin wasn't just some random guy that came into their life as soon as they got good and wanted to reward them. Ed Martin was just a friend of theirs that...

  • ESPN FAB FIVE brought me here.

  • @guam2oregon me too

  • @guam2oregon

ESPN Fabricated Five made me LOL. Never won a Big 10 title or an NCAA title. Want to see a team that REALLY changed the game? Try 90 and 91 UNLV. They were Michigan before Michigan...not to mention they actually won something.

  • CHEATER! Karma's a bitch, Webber. He traveled and called a timeout in the same play.

  • @nickmordo He was under pressure though give him credit they wouldn't of got where they got without him.

  • Where's Gus Johnson when you need him.

  • Can these announcers get any more boring?

  • i love how loud the crowd gets when he walks. you can kinda see the nc bench going berserk. as would i.

  • @movrinoscopy the nc bench's reaction is priceless

  • Does anyone have the 1993 NCAA championship March of the Tar Heels video? I use to have it on VHS and I want to see it again! Please post!

  • Even as a Michigan fan, it was kind of instant karma when Webber called the TO, because he had just gotten away with a travel.

  • It's just as well that Michigan lost this game. It would have been awful if they had had to forfeit the national championship when the NCAA found them out.

  • @6891man what did the NCAA find out?

  • Two worst moments by far for Chris Webber in his basketball career no doubt about it

  • Webber maybe have got that from Paul Westphal who did the exact same mistake 17 years before but he got away with it and C-Web didn't

  • who is broadcasting this game

    play by play

    color commentator

  • I bleed unc blue, but I still wonder how the fuck carolina won the championship that year hahaha

  • @tomatoface12 Donald Williams, that's how...Best 3 shooter for the Heels of the 90's.

  • Michigan did not lose because of Webber, we don't know that

    they were trailing 73-71

Although, he did give up Michigan's hopes of winning :(

  • Thanks to North Carolina I won a Tournament Pool in High School in 1993

  • I just dont know what to say after watching that back then, its probably mental lapse on his part..

  • It was the best championship game ever. So much hype and drama.

  • 1993 North Carolina vs Michigan is still one of the best National Championship games ever

  • Take time out of new orleans like webber!!!

  • I don't know who "jock sniffed" the SAD FIVE more-Dick Vitale or Billy "FUDGE "Packer!!!!!!! Either of them would have bet their manhood (IF THEY ACTUALLY HAD SOME) on Michigan that game. Only Coach K pregame picked the 'Heels!!!

  • I was there live in person for this one!!!

  • I forgot that UNC and DUKE won Consecutive championship in 91,92, and 93.Fast forward to today,,, UNC and DUKE 2009, 2010 championships

  • so what happened to michigan would they lose record of this if they have won it? i dont get what the scandal happened with the fab 5

  • Basically a team booster named Ed Martin paid players in order to get them to play for Michigan. How it effects the fab five, as far as I know, Webber was the only one of them who got money from Martin. But Webber was definitely the source of the biggest violation. Martin had been paying Webber money since Junior High and ended up paying him something like 300k.

Their records from the time and CWebb's accomplishments were voided. So yes, if they had won this, it would have been taken away.

  • @jdlund

yeah so when drose SAT test was taken by someone else not him so if memphis were to be champs vs kansas it would be off the record books?

  • Pretty much. The NCAA would just pretend like it never happened and the school wouldn't be allowed to claim it. As it is with the year DRose took Memphis to the finals the school's official tournament is recorded as 0-1. They get to keep the fact that they lost to Kansas, but all the wins leading up to it were voided.

  • The stats are based on what I found online. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

  • They didn't lose just because Webber called a timeout. They weren't even winning at the time. We don't even know if they would have scored. We do know a few things though. Michigan shot 7 free throws. UNC shot 23. They had 14 turnovers. UNC had 10. Juwan Howard had 7 points, which was less than UNC's Brian Reese. Chris Webber was 11-18 with 23 pts, 11 rbs, 3 blks, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Where would Michigan have been without Webber? Don't try to pin the loss on one guy or one play. It's absurd

  • @ilcactusdigomma you sir are a dumbass, that is why they lost

  • The comments that this was the worst UNC team to win are wrong. This same UNC team lost to the fab 5 early in the season in Hawaii on a last minute heave by Rose or they would have beaten them twice. This team went 10 deep, had (3) 7-footers, great defense, and played Smith's system perfectly. This was the best UNC team ever and I have seen all of them including those with Jordon. They would have worn out the 1982 team that only went 6 deep, the 2005 team didnt play D...the 2009 team maybe

  • @ilcactusdigomma thankyou for the perspective.

  • @ilcactusdigomma : In addition to that, UNC only had 4 team fouls, so they had a couple to give before putting Michigan on the line. Michigan was certainly the more talented team. I really believe they fell victim to experience once again. Carolina was the more experienced team and was the fresher team down the stretch. A steal, an errant shot, a 3 pointer airball - three big plays down the stretch that hurt Michigan . . . and the inability to stop Donald Williams!

  • Simmons

  • @rswcsq2 haha me too

  • lol did u see the unc bench when webber walked they were jumping so high

  • Webber could've become a HOF and people still would give him shit for this epic fuckup!

  • webber's a fuckin bum !!!!!

  • @hoodrichGMP He's a HOF candidate, but he never won the big games.

  • @CharlesNigro that's why he's a fuckin bum ! now don't get m wrong there was a time when i thought webber was the best pf in the nba when he was doin his shit wit da kings but then in the west finals against the lakers , i think in 2001 he fucked that up too ! fuckin bum ! but the nigga did play good ball but he always choked ! TERRIBLY !!!!!!!

  • Webber should never have gotten a chance anyway b/c he clearly walked.

  • cris webber is retarted

  • Say Michigan won this game and still had all the wins vacated. Would the NCAA give UNC the championship for 1993 or would there just be no champion? Same applies to KU Memphis in 08.

  • @stevo0665 no champion if it is vacated

  • Can't say that for the rebels. They would of kicked n.carolinas ass.lol

  • what? in 93?

  • @dad2ujunior I would like to have played them in 91" Fox vs Augman.....classic!

  • The Fab Five never won a game. Hahahaha cheaters never prosper

  • @EagleLC21 sorry but that will never change what they accomplished on the court. Dickhead.

  • @bjblyrical right, I'm a dickhead because I speak the truth? It defintely does change what they accomplished, they had every win that year taken away and have no final four banner at Crisler Arena.

  • technically, this game never happened cuz Mich. broke some rules

  • U of M was sanctioned for violating NCAA Rules for the 1991-1992 and also in 1992-1993.

  • the TO debacle should of never happened.. he Traveled with the ball anyway.. would of done Michigan better had the refs called that instead of the Timeout heard around the world!!

  • That is still one of the worst non calls in a huge game ever.

  • There was no fab five because they violated NCAA Rules at the University of Michigan so they were vacated so basically it messed up the whole final four that year.I believe the U of M in ANN ARBOR knew about this Ncaa Rules and didn't say nothing about it even the athletic director.

  • Jesus, he throws the f'ing ball to Jalen, Michigan ties or wins the game. Rob Pelinka was wide f'ing open for a three. Jalen alone could have driven and tied. The real hero of the Fab Five was always J Rose, not C webb.

  • @cdzmo1972 imagine if the fab 5 would have played all four years.

  • they would have lost all 4 years haha.they lost for 2 years in a row im sure they would have lost to duke or arkansas the next year too.

  • I'm a UNC fan but as a basketball fan I dont blame C-Webb @ all. In that situation where was the PG, who is most likely to most aware of the TO situation and what offense to run, to come get the ball & make the best play ?

  • That was a bad day to be Chris Webber. I think he did that out of instinct.

  • George Lynch = favorite Heel ever.

  • you got some funny idiots on youtube talking about luck not only did call a timeout that didn't exist but he walked which was clearly obvious yet no call so no way Mich should have won

  • webber took money while in college

    webber walked with the ball

    webber was a coach killer

webber should have been nicknamed "Dr. Chokestein"!

  • Dr. Chokenstein!!

  • Chris Webber is the best...it's sad that this illegal timeout bullsh** had to haunt his entire pro basketball career, i still think he should be framed in the Hall of Fame....I LOVE YOU C-WEBB!!!

  • FUCK unc

  • Fuck YOU

  • FUCK unc go mich

  • You guys beat seton hall.

  • Chris Webber always seemed to come up short in the big games!! He called THE INFAMOUS TIMEOUT!! Michigan did'nt have, which gave North Carolina The 1993 NCAA Championship!! He lost game 7 to the Lakers for the right to the NBA Finals, AT HOME!! Making the Kings the first team to loose Game 7 at home in nearly "20" years at the time!! He lost as a Detroit Piston with a 2-0 series lead against The Cavs!! 2 GAMES AWAY FROM THE NBA FINALS!!! Sometimes great players don't achieve greatness!! DAMN!

  • dude shut up you're gay

  • which gave North Carolina The 1993 NCAA Championship!!

    ----------

How did he "give" UNC the title, when UNC was leading the game? Also, as out of sync as they were, do you really think Michigan would've put up a decent shot?

He also walked before the TO...if anything, MICHIGAN was "given" the chance to have a CHANCE to win--and they blew it.

  • it's the guards fault they should have come down and take the ball out of his hands in the back court

  • My sentiments exactly. I said the same exact thing before I read ur comment.

  • Either way it felt good to see that prick Webber fuck up.

  • Tarheels beat Michigan in 1993 and now they beat Michigan State in 2009!!! Go Tarheels. Carolina Class of 1996.

  • 1993 - Michigan, 2005 - Illinois, 2009 - Michigan State who is really the best team in the Big Ten..North Carolina

  • to damiens80:

but unc is not in the big ten.

  • Man for almost twenty years now I have been thinking the Tar Heels were in the Big Ten... No really either you are under 13 or the most gullible mf on earth, or need to stop watching sports and go read some damn books. If you didn't catch what I was saying in my post. The point of it was Carolina has dominated the Big Ten in its last three titles. Its called sarcasm. Trust I know more about Tar Heel basketball than you may ever know...Genius!!!

  • ay man, i was just making sure. something told me u were bein sarcastic or kiddin around but i was just sayin

  • wow dude you're so fucking cool i wish i knew as much about the tar heels as you do

  • What in the hell was gay about what I said? I feel for what Chris Webber went through to be a winner, and he kept coming up short!! Congratulations on going out of your way to be a complete asshole!!!

  • You should

  • N.Carolina is in the ACC not the Big Ten.

  • You know I shouldn't respond to you being that its obvious that you didnt read my post when another dumb teenager tried to correct me but I will. The point of post was that UNC has dominated the Big Ten in winning their most championships. You know since the last three championships have been victories against Big Ten schools dumb ass. What makes this worse is you probably researched this to try to prove me wrong. Please learn to read before responding youngster or your terms dude.

  • haha i just did that cuz i knew how much it would piss off a loser like you. did you know duke is n.carolina's rival?

  • Not to mention in 2005 they beat the top 3 teams in the Big 10 in reverse order:

    Elite 8 - Wisconsin (Big 10 Reg. Season #3)

Final 4 - Mich St. (Big 10 Reg. Season #2)

Nat'l Championship - Illinois (Big 10 Reg. Season Champ)

  • the heels make a regular habit of beating up on the big ten. five straight over michigan state and last three NTs over big ten teams= michigan, illinois and michigan state

  • This was the best default championship game I've ever seen.

  • the birth of a choke artist...

  • Choke Webber

  • Technically, this game NEVER HAPPENED.

  • Who cares if Webber blew it. Tar Heels rock. They're on their way to another NCAA title this year!

  • Let's not jinx it. Two more games. COME ON HEELS!

  • Michigan still rocks!

  • the timeout was called way before webber even tried calling it. listen to the whistle and look at webbers move with the ball...it def came from the bench

  • Damn Michael Talley. If you look at it, he's the one that is telling him to call it and the one that claps for the first split-second he calls it. Also Webber immediately glared at him and said something to him right after. To Webber's credit, as far as this is concerned, he took all the blame for this play and the loss even though he could've blamed his teammmate.

  • Please. Webber called time FAR before the ref's noticed it. When he first in bounded the ball, he called time, walked, dribbled down the court, and then he called the time out that was whistled. I'll admit, the Immaculate Reception and "The Play" by the Cal Bears were bogus, but this was all Chris Webber. No conspiracy.

  • Neither of those 2 plays are bogus either.

  • Great username, jackass.

Speaking of numbnuts, Webber definitely blew it, big time.

  • Yeah most people don't notice that the first time he called a timeout was after rebounding the missed free throw.

  • UofM should be glad they didn't win this game. Save them the embarrassment of having to forfeit a national title.

  • Yes...when they first lost I was about seven and it was devasting particularily because my dad taped it and I loved the Fab 5. (He thought U of M would win) looking back on it this clip is the best thing that could have happened to U-M as an institution, save any NC's they might win in future years. It proves that cheaters never prosper. They should've told the Fab five to stay the hell away from the program entirely, not just till 2012 in my opinion.

  • EVERYONE KNOWS SOMEONE FROM THE BENCH CALLED TIME OUT! It isn't Chirs Webber's fault! Donald Williams won that game for Carolina...eventhough Carolina played TEAM ball all night!

  • I always wished this game had been north carolina vs kentucky....still cant believe michigan won the semifinal game in ot.

  • If that "timeout" hadnt occurred, and Michigan had scored to force overtime and/or won the game, that no-call on the obvious travel would be remembered as one of the worst missed calls in basketball history. As it is, you almost never hear about it.

  • yep!! you have the same thought as i do!!

  • fab 5... funny... i look in michigans record books and i cant seem to find any record of a fab 5... did something happen? did they like.. take money or something?

  • anyone who says carolina winning thi game

was abunch of luck can suck it we all know

carolina will always be better than michigan

in just about everything except football

    the Big Ten SUCKS

  • INSTANT KARMA .. Walk no called but love that time out!! LOL!!!! This will always be my favorite favorite NC NCAA championship! The team of 93 will always be my favorite!

  • FAB 5 FA LIFE!!!!!

  • Fab 5 4 EVA!

  • What i would like to know is why they all ways count out the 1924 ncaa championship they won!
