as a member of the IP youth council again i agree with these previous comments, this is not an Igorot Dance. Im also an active member of the BIBAK_BAGO students Org. and been performing the dances of the Race where i came from i certainly did't feel the way a genuine Igorot feels while witnessing such performances(kc nga po d ito Igorot dance this is Ballet). totally sad because they used the Igorot Garments and some of the Steps, even adopted really didn't suit the performance.
I am from the northern Philippines at ang mga sayaw sa region namin is completely different from what visayas and mindanao. what Leyte group presented I think is an Igorot dance. "BUT" hindi sana Igorot dance ang sinabi nila.... ginawa po sana nila itong Neo Ethnic presentation. Neo...makabago... dahil ang pagkakalam ko po hindi ganyan ang tradisyunal na pamamaraan ng pagsayaw ng aming mga katutubong Cordillera... ibat iba man po pero me may pagkakahwig... salamat......

This is not the way the Igorots dance especially the way the men dance in this troupe.The men insult the proud Igorot warrior image by bastardizing the the dance and dancing it like morons and gays.this dance group really pissed us Igorots because they are introducing their fake Igorot dance to the world.

I am a member of the BIMAAK organization and a pure blooded igorota. hndi magaslaw ang mga girls gumalaw. all steps done were not just practised and danced with countings. we performe because we are introducing our real culture as Igorots. ay ineh lawa nan performance ay sana!
Although i do take into account that this is a ballet version of "igorot dance" i feel that they have taken to many liberties in changing the style from its original form. As an Igorot I actually find this as a very offensive representation of the Igorot Culture.

you can say incorporated dance steps, because once you go away with the basic movements of the dance, its no longer the original... dance incorporation pwede pa...this one is not the real ifugao dance cause may halong ballet yan... hehehe but over all nice presentation naman....

@clangelo03 They don't intend to make it ugly but they changed the nature of the dance so it would not be the same any more. Its like say this is my mother's original adobo recipe but then you deviate, say you add too much salt, or a use too little oil, or add kangkong leaves. It would not be your mother's original adobo recipe! And then if you keep cooking it your way then your mother's original recipe would be forgotten. I hope you could understand that.
@clangelo03 Of course they are different (after all its a metaphor) but they are the same in an important aspect... their nature of being what they are. Would you still call it adobo if you add Curry Powder or Tomato Sauce? Would it still be Igorot Dance if they add Waltz steps? or Break Dance steps or Ballet steps? How about if they use another music? We know what elements that make it an Igorot dance. Changing any of the elements will make it different, not an Igorot dance anymore.
Not to take away any from the dancers but I have to agree with most of the post here...this is not doing our folkdances any credit...THIS IS NOT Preserving our heritage. Ballet should be ballet and traditional dance should be kept "traditional" and should not be made into an interpretative dance of some sort.

Title of dance is Cordillera Images... not the one posted by Zebra of New Hampshire who took the video and excitedly posted this without our knowledge. surely this is not an igorot dance at all...it has only basis on it... the gong is different plus the yelling of the men, usually men yell to end the dance where in here, they were yelling and dancing at the same time...just call this an ethnic dance inspired by igorots...i think that would be better and not to call this igorot dance because surely many would be confused when they see the real dance steps...anyways this dance troops performed well and were really graceful in there execution...
..for Igorots, they will notice that the 'mahinhin' moves of the ladies were gone.....Note that Igorot men are not rough nor wild when they dance...they are respectful even with the war defence and attack dance--

Tradition is life, life should be respected. In the cordillera's tradition is respected. It is our way of life. We never disrespect our culture, Igorot dance is sacred, THE LEYTE DANCE THEATRE SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED HOW the CORDILLERANS MUST HAVE FELT by altering our dances. Did they ever try to research the very meaning of each steps?, did they ever know what the dance is for? Do they know how to play the instrument correctly?
It's not a question of having better dance, for it should not be shown to prove who performs it better, but the proper way and without alteration and disrespect to our culture. I invite you to come and visit my small hometown in Bontoc or even Sagada so you could see how much we treasure our dance.
This dance is so magnificent that i forgot im waraynon. I just dont understand why some people keep on complaining 'bout this terrific peformance of our own blood. The people of the Cordillera must file a formal complaint againts Leyte Dance Theatre. This is not a dance of the Kaigorotans and it is a total disrespet to the culture of the igorot tribes. I agree - Look what this group has done - I'm from Muslim Mindanao and they've given bad treatment to my culture's dance form. In traditional Muslim dance much more for singkil - bawal hawakan ng lalaki ang babae specially in the more intimate parts like the waist and legs. Very subtle ang pagbabastos ng Leyte dance group choreographer ang singkil. Tapos they go out to the rest of the world and in the U.S. to show this off? This is not an accurate rendition of the dance.
I think it should not be treated that way. this group is a DANCE THEATER. Not a FOLKLORIC GROUP. The later is focused on the traditional and folk dance step/movements/patterns/positions/music/costuming, etc.
A dance theater is gets simply some "inspirations" or "motifs" from folk dances or artstic expressions which are in turn expressed in various dance forms like ballet, aerobics, modern dances, post modern dances and even avant garde.

as a member of the IP youth council again i agree with these previous comments, this is not an Igorot Dance. Im also an active member of the BIBAK_BAGO students Org. and been performing the dances of the Race where i came from i certainly did't feel the way a genuine Igorot feels while witnessing such performances(kc nga po d ito Igorot dance this is Ballet). totally sad because they used the Igorot Garments and some of the Steps, even adopted really didn't suit the performance.

I am from the northern Philippines at ang mga sayaw sa region namin is completely different from what visayas and mindanao. what Leyte group presented I think is an Igorot dance. "BUT" hindi sana Igorot dance ang sinabi nila.... ginawa po sana nila itong Neo Ethnic presentation. Neo...makabago... dahil ang pagkakalam ko po hindi ganyan ang tradisyunal na pamamaraan ng pagsayaw ng aming mga katutubong Cordillera... ibat iba man po pero me may pagkakahwig... salamat......

I am a member of the BIMAAK organization and a pure blooded igorota. hndi magaslaw ang mga girls gumalaw. all steps done were not just practised and danced with countings. we performe because we are introducing our real culture as Igorots. ay ineh lawa nan performance ay sana!

Although i do take into account that this is a ballet version of "igorot dance" i feel that they have taken to many liberties in changing the style from its original form. As an Igorot I actually find this as a very offensive representation of the Igorot Culture.

you can say incorporated dance steps, because once you go away with the basic movements of the dance, its no longer the original... dance incorporation pwede pa...this one is not the real ifugao dance cause may halong ballet yan... hehehe but over all nice presentation naman....

@clangelo03 They don't intend to make it ugly but they changed the nature of the dance so it would not be the same any more. Its like say this is my mother's original adobo recipe but then you deviate, say you add too much salt, or a use too little oil, or add kangkong leaves. It would not be your mother's original adobo recipe! And then if you keep cooking it your way then your mother's original recipe would be forgotten. I hope you could understand that.

@clangelo03 Of course they are different (after all its a metaphor) but they are the same in an important aspect... their nature of being what they are. Would you still call it adobo if you add Curry Powder or Tomato Sauce? Would it still be Igorot Dance if they add Waltz steps? or Break Dance steps or Ballet steps? How about if they use another music? We know what elements that make it an Igorot dance. Changing any of the elements will make it different, not an Igorot dance anymore.

Not to take away any from the dancers but I have to agree with most of the post here...this is not doing our folkdances any credit...THIS IS NOT Preserving our heritage. Ballet should be ballet and traditional dance should be kept "traditional" and should not be made into an interpretative dance of some sort.

Maybe it is time to let all viewers know that the group is Leyte Dance Theater of Tacloban City. Title of dance is Cordillera Images... not the one posted by Zebra of New Hampshire who took the video and excitedly posted this without our knowledge. Excellent presentation, with ballet movements incorporated with ethnic movements. Wonderful. Please don't mind moronic critics with no understanding of dance moves. Thank you for this high level of performance. The male dancers are too good to be true. They really put something into it. Congratulations to the trainer. He or she may have enormous talent to come up with this choreography. Carry on. We enjoyed this show.

etc..THERE WAS NEVER A FORM OF BALLET in Igorot Dances ... but i think when the White Americans started to migrate and live in Baguio and acclimatized there, inbreeding with the Tribal Natives - for IGOR-OTAS are light compexioned - Highly Likely due to Americanisms and Exposure to European Culture did the ballet infusion to the culture came from....

hahay... kadaghan ug satsat oi... i give these dancers and the choreographer credit since they are able to showcase some aspects of the Philippine Culture. I am not familiar with the dances myself... but I think they are great... Ang kanang sige ug reklamo... maau unta naa mo videos na kamo mismo naa ug mas maau pa ani.. kung wala... ayaw namo ug reklamo... mao gyud ni problema sa pinoy ba...makalagot...

surely this is not an igorot dance at all...it has only basis on it... the gong is different plus the yelling of the men, usually men yell to end the dance where in here, they were yelling and dancing at the same time...just call this an ethnic dance inspired by igorots...i think that would be better and not to call this igorot dance because surely many would be confused when they see the real dance steps...anyways this dance troops performed well and were really graceful in there execution...

..for Igorots, they will notice that the 'mahinhin' moves of the ladies were gone.....Note that Igorot men are not rough nor wild when they dance...they are respectful even with the war defence and attack dance--
...plus the mixed-up costume.:-) but only those who are familiar with the Igorot suite will notice these things. Those who are not will just be WRONGLY educated that the Igorots are like that.:-) ..but it's ok. Nice show..!:-))''luuuv it.

well i found the dance so graceful and really it is so nice a ballet indeed but its not all inspired by an igorot dance, ibahin nyo ang suot would you think it is inspired by an igorot dance only? i guess not!!!

well surely maraming mga kapatid natin from cordillera na magagalit or maiinsulto to this dance. but we have to understand that it is a ballet dance inspired by cordillera dance. kaya it wasn't a pure igorot dance... opinion lang po

Tradition is life, life should be respected. In the cordillera's tradition is respected. It is our way of life. We never disrespect our culture, Igorot dance is sacred, THE LEYTE DANCE THEATRE SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED HOW the CORDILLERANS MUST HAVE FELT by altering our dances. Did they ever try to research the very meaning of each steps?, did they ever know what the dance is for? Do they know how to play the instrument correctly?

It's not a question of having better dance, for it should not be shown to prove who performs it better, but the proper way and without alteration and disrespect to our culture. I invite you to come and visit my small hometown in Bontoc or even Sagada so you could see how much we treasure our dance.

This dance is so magnificent that i forgot im waraynon. I just dont understand why some people keep on complaining 'bout this terrific peformance of our own blood. Are they not glad to see such a wonderful touch of foreign moves to ours' out of our own style and creativity? Bravo to all the dancers specially to mam lorraine.

The people of the Cordillera must file a formal complaint againts Leyte Dance Theatre. This is not a dance of the Kaigorotans and it is a total disrespet to the culture of the igorot tribes. Did you hear how people lough on the middle of the performance? Leyte Dance Theatre owes an apology to the people of the cordillera!

geez..... please, to any member of this group, please, tell your choreographer to respect our culture (im an igorot),,do more research, im an enthusiast of the arts but i believe that this cover of the "igorot" dance is a total mess. the costumes are cordilleran but the dance steps are more of a muslim in origin....

excuse lang po ah..this group again is not dancing traditionally..i mean this group is a dance theater and not a folkloric group..ung version ng grupo is in ballet form..hndi nman nila binabastos ung kultura..grabe ka nman magsalita..b4 ka magcomment ng ganyan try to research muna sa background ng grupo..para malaman mo..obvious nman na ballet ung sayaw eh at hndi traditional na igorot..

my dear, i am pretty aware that this in a ballet form, but the thing is,they are trying to cover an igorot dance,,, i see very minimal igorot movements there,,,, i see more muslim movements,,, you will never know,, unless you are an igorot, like myself,,,even the beating of the musical instruments are far different from the real one,,,

I agree - Look what this group has done - I'm from Muslim Mindanao and they've given bad treatment to my culture's dance form. In traditional Muslim dance much more for singkil - bawal hawakan ng lalaki ang babae specially in the more intimate parts like the waist and legs. Very subtle ang pagbabastos ng Leyte dance group choreographer ang singkil. Tapos they go out to the rest of the world and in the U.S. to show this off? This is not an accurate rendition of the dance.

I think it should not be treated that way. this group is a DANCE THEATER. Not a FOLKLORIC GROUP. The later is focused on the traditional and folk dance step/movements/patterns/positions/music/costuming, etc.
A dance theater is gets simply some "inspirations" or "motifs" from folk dances or artstic expressions which are in turn expressed in various dance forms like ballet, aerobics, modern dances, post modern dances and even avant garde.

Ya, this is not Igorot Dance. It's a very beautiful ballet dance using Igorot (our) beautiful costume. My only concern is our Igorot Dance might really be mistaken to be your ballet dance.
