iT'S not that bands make this cut & dry decision to "get big & change their sound" . It's by the time you ("we") hear their or any bands 1st recordings they are usually broke, hungry, angry from touring around the country to shitty bars on Sunday-Wed night shows barely for gas $ , hardly ever meals included, if they don't have tshirts, cd's , tapes, vinyl etc they'll barely make it to the next town to play the same set for the same non existent pay, their beers arent even free yet.
Then, even if they have all that stuff or sale no one's heard of em' yet so these Sun-Wed gigs they're killing themselves to play to expose their sound theyre playing in rooms with 10people 35-40 if theyre real lucky. So the recordings change because by the time they get to make that 1st record those songs are so old to them & thy probly scraped up 300 for 12hrs recording,
300-500 to master then about that to package the finished product that when hopefuly, outta a zillion bands theirs a hit strong enough someone gives em 4 to relax in a studio, theyre fed, rested, not so angry or rushed and life therefore imitates art. don't hate or give up, Thank God they are paying bills off songs.
I saw them at Highline Ballroom with Kevin Devine in October. Absolutely amazing. I'm trying to arrange for them to play at my school, because I know a lot of people will like them. I want them to be so successful!
this band is fucking amazing. i wish them ALL the success but sadly i know if they were to get big the sound would probably change so for now i will keep them hidden from everyone! ha!
@KWPajak How could the band that wrote the pop classic that is All The Small Things not get big? Blink have a lot less mainstream sound now though, i'd say.
