I commend you on your do-it-yourself hairstyling! It's empowering to take personal matters into your own hands as opposed to buying into society's mentality of paying to make everyone else do it for you. Besides, it's more creative and fun this way! :)
i told my mom to trim hair cut it at the end but she cut my hair up to my shoulders and she did not use any clip at all..it was a lousy job now i hte my hair its thick again and i need to layered it!!.. :(
@allhopeisgone12995 no they are trimming sheers bought at any beauty supply stores.. please don't use anything less otherwise you could get split ends from dull scissors.
Great video, I loved the directions. I am not a hairdresser but I love hair and sometimes people ask me to trim it for them. I'm going to do my first layered cut today =O I'm going to use your technic ^^ Hope it works ok! =D
You look great at the end but you didn't measure anything much so how do you know your layers are even? The last time I had my haircut, it was horrible. My sister cut it very short and took off atleast 5 inches! And the layers were uneven and the style was ugly and now I'm trying to grow everything out evenly so I can have very long and one length hair :)
@vanessaYEhh aww.. sorry to hear that. when i trim, i typically guage how much I trim off when my hair is straight down and do the same throughout. with layers tho, when u take it to the side, u would cut at an angle from the shortest length to create that layered shape so there's not much measuring involved.
I am really confused as to what you did to cut your hair. -.- It looks amazing though.
Hairdressers always cut off more than I want, so I really want to try this. But, I wasn't exactly clear on what you did? As stupid as that makes me sound...=P
nice video......i want to trim my hair myself as i am trying to grow them and the hairdressers chop off more than my hair grow......but i have curly hair........any tips on trimming curly hair?............
@msan3054 def. need to trim ur hair wet to keep the curls tamed. when trimming, leave a little extra wiggle room since hair will bounce up when dry especially on curly hair. You don't want to trim too much by accident, so measure where u think u want ur hair to lay and move another half inch lower to be safe =)
@Miosdove always wet.. it's easier to keep hair in place and also to avoid more split ends.. also.. when wet, try to trim a little past where you want the hair to end since hair will dry and bounce up =)
thank u! i honestly just shampoo, condition and let air dry most of the time. if i use heat, then i'll protect my hair with infrared spray. i have a haircare routine earlier which you can see what products i use on day to day basis =)
aww.. np! take baby steps if it's your first time like cut little by little until desired legnth. if u do mess up, just remember, it's hair.. it'll grow back! good luck! =)
Hey! nice video! Can I ask how you remember exactly how much u cut off the bottoms of the ends? I tried this once, and it was very uneven. Also, can u explain to me, what cutting at an angle does for the upper layers? Is it just for the layers? Thanks!
u cut off how much you want to.. for me, i just trimmed it all around to get the dead ends off. as for cutting at an angle & cutting straight across will create layers for you. hth =)
i've been searching and searching, and you are the only person on here doing it right..Alas!

were those regular scissors? or hair scissors? is it ok to use scissors that you would use to cut paper in school?

U did a good job! How much did u cut off? Does trimming make hair look noticeably short????
aljamoda 1 year ago
@aljamoda trimming shouldn't take off that much from ur hair - probably like half an inch maybe? enough to trim off any split ends or whatnot =D
