Actually, Perl isnt a good language to learn with you want, Visual Basic or Pascal (Outdated but its good for programming practices)

There is no such thing as a bad computer language, every language is good for what it does. Perl is mainly used for System Administration, has the advantage of achieving a lot with very little code. It might not be pretty, but its good at what it does.
