  • Another great show that my brother Paul introduced me to all thos years ago. Great ensemble cast, great atmosphere, great script and stories.

  • a great show realy a great and it still one bestof all time

  • down to earth, just like malinaggi versus hatton

  • My favorite episode was the one where they arrested a guy who turned out to be funny as hell so Renko decided to turn him into a comedian and be his manager but his name turned out to be Vic Hitler. Vic said his grandfather made him promise on his deathbed not to change the name. He gets him a gig anyway but the guy turns out to be a narcoleptic and falls asleep onstage.

  • Best tv series ever to hit UK screens now doing a re run in the afternoons Great team All work well together

  • I'm sure I've rode down that street

  • Never really watched the show but always loved the theme music. Interesting to see Mr Doogie Howser in his earlier days too.

  • Hard to believe, but next month, November 22 to be exact, will mark 25 years since Michael Conrad passed away after a battle with urethral cancer.

It pains me to say this, but Hill Street Blues lost a bit of its quality when Mr. Conrad passed away.

  • It was, and still is, the greatest show ever, not only because of the qualiuty but its groundbreaking nature..Towards the end it began broadening to attract more women and the story lines got softer...similar to LA Law and ER. along with "I Love Lucy" and "The Sopranos" it sits atop the history of the medium

  • I guess you haven't heard of THE SHIELD?

  • Yes, and I remember the episode where they announced his 'death' to the squad. But, the end is one I will always remember. He wanted his ashes spread outside the precinct house and they did so and were told to hurry it up. Then, you saw the street cleaner machine go by. Classic! A good show!

  • I saw the very moment when his ashes were scattered and the street cleaner went by.

Here's wishing you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

  • Yes, I saw the entire episode and that one part that always sticks out.

Same to you as for the special holiday.

  • I LIKE THE THEME

  • who the hell names their kid Keil?

  • The best intro to any show hands down

  • Great stuff! For a moment I'm back in 1981...

  • Please release Season 3 on DVD !

  • Kind of looks like Gary Indiana to me, but I don't think that they ever mentioned where the location of the show was.

  • Well...the show was shot on a Los Angeles sound stage but, as far as the story was concerned, it's set in a "Northern urban center". The producers actually did that on purpose for some kind of reason.

  • The opening looks like Chicago to me..the "Old Style" bar sign at :38 gives it away.

  • Personally I think they just put bits and pieces of every major city in this thing to confuse the hell out of anyone that watched it. But it was still a good show though.

  • Interstat 94 in the back ground at frame :19

  • A lot of the opening credits you see is Chicago. The outside of the Hill St station is now the police office for the campus of UIC. The building is located at the corner of maxwell and morgan streets.

  • It's on the South Side of Chicago near 111th St over by the Dan Ryan I - 94

  • Why are there cops? THERE SHOULDN'T BE COPS!...But I'm glad we have them; God Bless them.

This is probably (certainly to be more precise) the only TV song that I've attempted to learn how to play, but it was too difficult for me. Was able to play Fur Elise, though. XD

  • As the show grew in popularity, they also got into the trend or fad of the times back then. When the group "Aha" come out with their vid "Take on me", the producers of the show had a commercial vid mirroring like it, which was neat seeing the into of the characters in stop action animation just like Aha's. I wonder if anyone knows or has access to that rare advertisment season intro clip. Yo!

  • Here in Brazil Hill Streat Blues was exibhited in early 80's, with the name "Chumbo Grosso", at Globo TV. At the time was a big sucess. Others series like "Third Watch" tried repeat their sucess, but didn't reach it.

  • HSB was the reason i bought my first TV... gave up a few things at the time to be able to afford it ...I would rush home from work on Tuesdays in Trinidad and eat a sandwich and wait on that theme song. Veronica Hamel was a genuine hottie ..greatest cop show on TV

  • what a sublime theme tune from mr mike post. its even on my mp3 :)

  • I think my favorite was Belker, wonderfully portrayed by Bruce Weitz. He was such a tough little guy, but had a soft interior. Always talking on the phone to his Ma in one breath and then barking and growling at a perp in the next.

  • shut it hair ball

tottaly agree :) love the show and he is also my favourite, great character

  • I liked one episode. Beler was applying to work at a loading dock parking trucks. The guy took a look at him and said he doubted he could do it. After he argued with him a little, he got in the truck, backed it up perfectly, got out, looked at him and said - "So, do I get the job?" Classic!

  • when the chips are down ill be around with my undieing death defying love for you

  • My favorite characters on HSB are: Renko (Haid), Esterhaus (Conrad), Belker, a.k.a. Dogbreath (Weitz), Buntz from the final seasons (Franz), Hill (Warren), and Davenport (Hamel).

  • Mine's Belker, who was the reason I used to bark like a dog at school. Unfortunately nobody else there watched this so it wasn't appreciated. I was a very troubled little boy!

  • this is one the best show of all time

  • For anyone living in the UK, it's on More 4 every weekday at 3pm. It's at the 1982 series at the minute.

  • If you're talking about the 1982-83 season, then that was HSB's most popular season of all, b/c it was in the Top 25 of the Nielsen ratings.

  • In 1982, every kid in America knew how to play three songs on the piano:

    1. Chopsticks

    2. Chariots Of Fire

    3. Hill Street Blues

This makes me smile. Thanks for posting.

  • Ain't that the truth...

Great show, they don't make shows or theme songs like that anymore.

  • Great show! My favorite characters was Renko (Haid) and Furillo (Travanti).

  • Damn, I always thought Veronica Hamel was gorgeous.

  • That intro takes me back when I use to watch this with my parents,I was three at time. Thanks for posting this!

  • Officer Jeff McCoy

    Abilene Police Department

    Abilene,Texas

End of Watch: Tuesday, June 5, 2007

  • i loved this intro as a kid but as a philly cop i get heavy chills when i hear it, so many cops have paid the ultimate sacrafice to try keeping these streets safe and no one knows what a cop goes through everyday, but another cop, it aint easy !

  • After reading your comment, I felt very moved to say you are right!! And I also wanted to say thank you, sincerely, to you and every other cop you work with (and all other police) who risk their lives to keep everything safe and secure. *salute* :)

  • Never watched it in the past. Found out an actor I like was in it though. Kiel Martin, played LaRue. He was so hot playing a western Marshall in an episode (The Stone) of Kung Fu. Was so sexy with a short beard/mustache/cowboy hat....WOW!

  • He was very handsome. Sadly, he passed away just after Christmas 1990 from lung cancer.

  • yes..very sad

  • I was never a fan of Hill Street Blues, but the theme tune is brillant. Let's be careful out there.

  • Whenever I saw Hill Street Blues, I dreamed about being part of a work team like that of those cops. The time passed, and my dream did not become completely true. I loved this intro, and I think that now it move me even more than in those times. Thanks for the post!

  • Taurean Blacque.. Token black? What?

  • judas h frank!!

  • just a great show

  • me gustan los coches que marca y modelo son?

  • "Dispatch, we have a 9-11. Armed robbery in progress."

  • Tento seriál se u nás vysílal asi v polovině 90.let.Greetings from Czech Republic(CZE)

  • I always get a lump in my throat when I hear this theme song

  • i feel the same way. when that shot of the interior of the Dodge shows up i get these warming chills

  • I get the same feeling and you know what it is...this show brought a new look to cop shows that wasn't there before, or not as much. That opening moment of the show--where they are going out and risking their lives on those dirty, gritty streets--and for WHAT?

    Armed robbery...surplus store...corner People's Drive.

  • You must have people you know in law enforcement then or something...

  • Everytime that garage door open, it gave me chills. Loved this show.

  • A really great opening to a great show -so atmospheric.

  • Qué buena música, qué recuerdos!!!

  • hill street...such a great series...so sad for the deaths

  • Rene Enriquez has passed away, too.

  • Keil Martin and Michael Conrad have both died sadly. I loved this show, the best one I have ever seen.

  • I like the theme music for this intro.
