  • ... LEGEND.

  • Great artist!

  • before 0:02 it says SEX

  • 0:04 says SEX

  • If I can do it it's not art . People like Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol laughed all the way to the bank selling concepts. Robert Willams is a real artist . Ask any concept artist to draw and 95% of them will run fot the hills or make excuses.

  • It's funny, this "Lowbrow" thing. Seems to me this Juxtapoz magazine only publishes a bunch of its friends and artists who made the grade. At least they could write back when one sends them his work.

"highbrow" would suit them best. If someone cares to see my rejected work search ALVAREZ CABRERO on google

  • This is what happens when the arts are not part of some force funded government program. Low brow art in a "public" museum would only cheapen the style and raise the price through the roof . When you can name your own price and have a hammer to back you up, why bother working? Instead when you let the free will of the public put a value on art you get awesome stuff that people would be willing to voluntarily pay money for.

  • You ever read the titles of his paintings they are hillarious

  • SORRY 'ROBBO IF YOU WANT REALISM- USE A DIGITAL CAMERA- but that won't make it worth 1/2 a detailed sketch.

IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL YOUR ENVIROMENT- use the diect method PAINT! DRAW!

"Aw sh#t i'm no good?!?" IT'S YOUR CAVE MATE- TAKE THE TIME WITH DETAIL TO WATCH WALLS WITH PLEASURE!

"Aw the kids have no balls!"Tough luck that EVERYDAY IS A NEW DAY & SCENES CHANGE LIKE THE WEATHER!

    +++++++++++++NOW PAINT YOUR CAVE!!!!*************************

  • it captures you. as if you feel like youv felt somthing like it befor,in his art work! like in blackouts or major epiphanies, or like drug trips. realizing the world and whats in it!!! his work reminds me of another art by the name of Alex Grey.

  • wild spirit isnt there anymore, boy that about sums it up these days,,,

  • high frutose will shit on juxtupozer

  • robert's art is the visual representation of the shit I see when I am quite stoned.

  • i think this guy has a clear picture of what it means to communicate as an artist

  • Robert's art will stand the test of time when all the so called 'fine' art is long forgotten.

  • Are you my daddy?

    lmao

  • I remember when the U of A tried to kill my best friend's realistic painting in the '70s and she refused to buckle, but it was basically impossible to get recognition at the shows, alumni and otherwise, but she never gave up. Screw 'em, she said.

I like this fellow for that, too.

  • BANKSY

  • This Man MUST be commented on!!!

I was introduced to His work by one of My Private Drum Students & I LOVE His Viseral, Raw, Dirty expression of Humanity..........as He quite RIGHTLY says in this interview (which I LoVe for it's TRUTH) His kind of honest, Rude, Wild & Powerful, skilled Art just Doesn't happen these days in the "Art" world (Maybe with the exception of the Graffiti Art Genre)

ANYWAY I LOVE THIS GUY & HIS WORK!!!

    Daddy Funk x

  • you guys are buying this first stan lee is still alive second hes to close to 40s art ie refer madness third it goes dali picasso basiquat for a reason reson being if you bit other people style you will not be in that line of names i dont care how well you can paint second kush is living and he controls what you think is great art but everthing after twist in style is bite period and ryden is the one over schooled guy that will be there third he dosent have a singler true masterpeice

  • RW is a fucking GENIUS. how cool would it be to hang out with him?

  • yep! Robert is the creator of Juxtapoz (my favorite art magazine).

  • you mean the magazine? yeah on that I agree. Too much hip hip looking crap in it. Although here recently I have seen more of the better "lowbrow" artists featured in it. At any rate I have some great art books that feature roberts art in them. I could sit and look at them for hours (and I do, in fact)! I also have a wonderful book by another "lowbrow" master, Todd Schorr. His stuff is amazing!

  • What you mean is to many of the same artist over and over.

  • Another Todd Shorr fan! I just got his new book "American Surreal." Great stuff. Mark Ryden's another favorite of mine.

I saw R Crumb the other night at UCLA - there's another cool artist.

You probably have it, but the Nov. Juxtapoz is Williams-centric. Pretty cool.

    Take it easy!

    Take it easy

  • @SteevDragon67 Indeed a good magazine man :D

  • i saw his Artwork in a tattoo Mag when i was a kid & talkin 20 years ago, thought it was unreal outrageous.I bought the book Malicious resplendence the other week, and man totally awesome.highly recomended if your into that sought of art...

  • I first saw his stuff in Zap Comix in the sixties,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,very, very hard psychedelia.........he was my favorite and his stuff looked even more amazing on acid...........

Actually, I was exposed to his stuff before that when he was designing for Ed "Big Daddy" Roth....

  • he reminds me of kozik and coop

  • hes only been doin it 30+ years before either

  • agreed

  • exactly! Robert is a "jedi" master compared to basquiat who is (was) a mere "padawan" learner! Robert's art is wonderful, and one of my biggest inspirations!

  • when i saw "RodFlip"

    i was hooked on art

    your the man.....

    long liveRobert Williams

  • "Quantum Mechanics". Whatta bullshitter!

  • Mr Williams your my Hero.

  • low brow is anything but elitist.

  • He's always been a favorite of mine, his philosophy behind his craft intrigues me. It is a tough field to be in, even if you're as unbelievably talented as he is.

  • Sent him a letter once with some cards of my work and asked him for some advice. He basically said: it's the hardest thing anyone can do, odds of success are really low, go get a job.

I thought that his words were cool as shit although I think that i'll never be able to set down the brushes, but as his video suggests, people with crystal clear thoughts are going to be looked down upon... as illustrators

  • Where can I buy any of his prints??? I'm a huge fan of his.I dying to but his "Hot Rod Race" piece.... Can anyone direct me?

  • juxtapoz magazine

  • Wher on Jutapoz Magazine? I have a few copies of them....

  • do some poster searches on google, publishers of book collections, etc. dig deeper. spend the time.

  • thanks!

  • its a shame they didnt show more of his art or his process in creating a painting

  • I did an interview with Robert Williams ten years ago. It's on my web space. Send me a note if you want to read it, I'll tell you the link.

  • When was this video recorded and by who (as in who is interviewing him for what site/purpose)? I want to use a quotation from this interview in a paper for my University class, but I do need to cite it properly

    Thanks if you can help

  • wonderful pop artist ,nice to see in a world so full of the normal wishy-washy bullshit

  • I got a chance to meet him at a party in Venice Beach, seems like a real nice guy.

  • I love his art its so much like mine but hopfully ill be able to step it up a notch in this new generation... if your bored check out my new chalk pastel crazy drawing its five feet tall

  • @darkmiguel3 I can only hope you were exceedingly high when you posted that last comment. Ive checked out the work on your channel. Im not saying you dont have talent but you are comparing yourself to a modern day master. Literally a master of his craft. There is no one in the world who can do what he does. Not even the other great 'Lowbrow' artists would state similarities between their work. You have a serious amount of work to do. Even then you would have to find a completey unique niche.

  • Robert is a real cool guy, i know him personally. His wife Suzanne is pretty cool as well.

  • I dig robert williams....his technical skill is incredible. He seems to thinks the young artists of today don't have the "guts and balls" he had but I disagree. He doesn't hold a candle to the "wild spirit" of some of the graffiti artists of today. Hell he showed in after hours clubs back then.....these guys are out painting buildings.....risking arrest to stay true to their artwork.

  • @1Dancingfan I hear you but he has been up against it for a large portion of his career. There are still shows and exhibitions that wont exhibit his work even though his work these days is much more toned down. I wouldnt say that statement is meant in arrogance. He is a pretty cool cat. I am a big big graf fan by the way. He goes hand in hand with it in my opinion. Not only style but also in ethos. I think he was one of the first to light the candle.

  • Awesome, one of the best artists of our time. Great interview.

  • Robert is not arrogant in any way .... at all... jesus !!!!!!!! .... Robert Williams rocks he is the best talented and most sweet man ever !!!

  • That was great, thanks for posting it!!!

  • they say "a picture is worth a thousand words",that is true,no doubt.but on that same note...i feel robert williams creations are worth seemingly endless conversation. in my opinion, few artists display this level of mental and visual detail.

  • amazeing

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

    TOTAL GENIUS.

    REPRESENTATIONAL ART IS NOT DEAD!

  • I "kinda" liked some of his work at one point, however, after having watched/heard this idiot speak I hate everything in the world.

  • yeah right

  • love this guy. always have. VERY hard to find any video on him. thank y'all very much. :-D

  • He seems very arrogant but very skilled

  • yeah.. wow

  • This RULES ... I love his art its amazing
