@zerosborne We don't claim to have invented the Tanto. Lynn talks about the Americanized Tanto-which is something he developed in the 80s. Cold Steel invested millions of dollars in research, development and testing, creating an entirely new style of Tanto that focused on tip strength and the fighting potential of the snap cut. If you read any literature on the history of tactical folders you'll see that our designs had a big impact on the industry. We don't claim anything that isn't true.
@zerosborne It's not dishonest. The aim of that test (as stated at the beginning of the DVD) is to show it does not snap. We've never claimed it to be anything else. If you want to see bending test where the blade returns true (an entirely different test) check out the British Proof test footage. We have a reputation for honesty which we are very proud of. Remember why we called it PROOF - because we were willing to show proof when no one else would Also - Check out KnifeTests1 and their tests
@zerosborne The aim of that test is to show that it doesn't break. It is not the British Proof Test (that test is entirely different and can be seen on several of our swords - where the blade is bent and MUST return true in order to pass). The aim of the test shown here is to put the knife under considerable stress and show that it does not snap. In an extreme situation you can count on the knife to survive such abuse. It may be bent slightly, but it's still functional and useful
Hey Cold Steel, You know what I'd like to see? something in between the Hunter and this custom classic like a hunter with your amazing VG-1 San Mai III steel, or something to drop the super steep price of this knife you offer in this blade steel. I hope that makes sense.
@Minrow56 Amazing VG-1 San Mai III steel? There are plenty of companies that use laminates; from kitchen cutlery, to outdoor, hunting, and survival knife applications. VG-1 is a middle of the road stainless, being cheaper, with poorer edge retention than the higher quality VG-10 (also a takefu steel), . Heck, you can get hunting knives in S30V for around half the market price of the pendleton hunter. I know Cold Steel is usually overpriced, but this is just ridiculous.
@frosteyflame Yes, because highly advanced engineering and machining goes into making an accurate rifle; a functional knife doesn't require machining tolerances to .001 inches, or complex engineering, nor do knives have the material requirements of a rifle. Also, keep in mind that the pendleton hunter is made of VG-1 steel, and micarta; VG-1 is a middle of the road stainless (cheaper than its big bro, VG-10), and micarta certainly isn't an expensive or exotic scale material.
@princeofiron There are shops in my country that offer hunting knives for $1500! They are hand-forged and folded and usually include some exotic and expensive material for the handle, most notably the mammoth tusk.
im so scared of the bending test that its gonna snap....
